>The popularity of English clubs across Europe is being damaged by complaints over the decision to hold the Europa League final in Azerbaijan, according to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.
>In a talk at Oxford University, he said: "Whenever we have English clubs, we have complaints. You don't help yourself with your popularity within European football with that.
>"If somebody asks me why we played in Baku, I would say: people live there, homosapiens live there. If we have two Azerbaijani teams playing in London nobody would complain. They would come and play without any problems.
>"We decided a year and a half ago that we play in Baku which has a modern stadium of 70,000. I think there is only one stadium in England that is bigger.
>"We have to develop football everywhere not England, Germany only," he added.
why does englel moan so much?
Anglos BTFO
Obsessed, not even gonna read the whole post
>whingeing poms
its not that it was there, it was that there was no way to get there, they didnt charter any extra flights for the fans so the ground was half empty
>player forced to stay at home to avoid assassination attempt
>a good choice of venue
>t. Seething Nazi still mad about the war
>"If somebody asks me why we played in Baku, I would say: people live there
Well, he's not gonna say because he got a fat bung from the Azerbaijani government is he.
>UEFA Europa cup
>played in the middle east
Brilliant organization tbqh
we never lost a war to you so why should i be mad?
>there is only one stadium in England that is bigger
nope
>only England has the balls to stand up to UEFA/FIFA rubbish whilst meek continentals quietly go along with corrupt trips to Baku and Qatar
This is why Bundesliga has about 5% of the global importance of the PL
why brag about holding it at a huge stadium and then allocate next to no tickets to the teams' fans?
The state of UEFA
How about it's because a European final wad held somewhere nowhere near fucking Europe.
And they wonder why we voted for brexit. Fucking invilids
Bollocks. It was the following reasons:
1. There was no extra flights and neither the AFA or UEFA tried particularly hard to fucking get more put on
2. The tickets that were available were massively overpriced. They were way and above the normal price for tickets to the country.
3. The price to stay in a hotel had shot up like 2000% in some places iirc.
4. Price of drinks and food went up in the tourist areas massively
5. The Azerbajani's couldn't even pretend to half-arse their security measures, forcing one of Arsenal's players to pull out
6. When the players got there, to a country that isn't even in Europe remember (it's part of Asia, or more specifically West Asia) the fans were hassled over wearing shirts
7. The AFA couldn't even get the locals to watch it FOR FUCKING FREE and the stadium was quiet as fuck.
The comment on 'muh stadium sizes' is hilarious. Does he know that North Korea has some the largest stadiums in the world? I guess we should go play in North Korea, then! I mean, they're both still technically at war with their neighbour, they massively overprice their hotels and food, they essentially pay the locals to pretend it is a wonderful place and they have big stadiums! It too is in Asia, so, why not?!
>"If somebody asks me why we played in Baku, I would say: people live there, homosapiens live there.
Cringe
legit post but this thread is about banter m8
Oh right. Well then...
*clears throat*
BAKU? MORE LIKE FAKU. I COULDN'T EVEN POST THEIR FAKEN CUNTRY ON A FAKEN MAP HAVIN A LAUGH DEY IS. PROB SERVE FOREN SHIT IN THER CAFES AS WELL THE FOOKIN MUSLIM NONCES.
Yet half of the stadium was empty
based thats more like it
main problem wasn't the stadium, but hosting a big footie-match in a city with a severely undersized airport (15k per day, iirc).
>WELL DONE BAKU
>which has a modern stadium of 70,000. I think there is only one stadium in England that is bigger.
How can you have such a prominent role in European football yet come out with that?
What is he on? It was a massive failure with half the stadium empty even after giving free tickets out lol
New Camp - Spain
Stade De France - France
San Siro - Italy
Athens - Greece
Any of these would have been fine, but instead we had middle of fucking nowhere - Asia
B.Korea is not an UEFA member that's why not.
Try to form better arguments please.
Go away Fitizen.
stade de France field is terrible
based!!!! Took the words out of my heart!
Gain weight.
Oh no, not the popularity of our clubs in europe! Quick, everyone say Baku was a great destination even though it was half empty, nowhere and unsafe.
Azerbeijan is a shithole, it is not in Europe, and they should not be considered by any respectable internation organisation for something like this after they hailed that murderer as a hero.
I am not sure if these are the reasons England complained but I stilll agree with them.
>The popularity of English clubs across Europe is being damaged
No one cares
A bit Anglophobic m8 please delete your post we don't tolerate hate speech here
>The popularity of English clubs across Europe is being damaged
Let them hate us as long as they fear us
Can't the fans charter the flights themselves? Isn't that what normally happens?
Azerbaijan's airport was too small to cope with demand and they had to check each fan coming in first to make sure they weren't armenian.
>it is not in Europe
Azerbaijan is in UEFA
Looks like an easy drive
3. What do you think is going to happen when you have loads more people coming to stay in the area? Do you think they're going to build new hotels just for the final?
4. Same. This isn't overpricing, by the way. Price is affected by supply and demand. When demand goes up without an attendant increase in supply, a higher price is right.
5. That's not how they told it.
So is Israel and Georgia and Kazakhstan. None of them are in Europe.
3. Except, as I said, the price rise was above and beyond what you'd fucking expect. 2000% is fuck huge price rise.
4. Same
5. Oh right, sure. Of course.
The Nazis relocated to the USA after the war m8, who do you think got them to the moon?
What was the price rise in Madrid? Maybe the rise in Baku was down to the Azerbaijani currency being weak as fuck and so it didn't affect tourists that much.
Operation Paperclip
Uh, sweetie, we DIDNT get to the moon
>"Whenever we have English clubs, we have complaints. You don't help yourself with your popularity within European football with that.
Implying Germans and other fanbases haven't been getting sick of UEFA/FIFAs bullshit too
> If we have two Azerbaijani teams playing in London nobody would complain. They would come and play without any problems.
2 Azerbaijan teams will never reach a final, and London is a hgue city with the infastructure to easily accommodate the fans of 2 clubs with a ton of transport links and not surrounded by war torn countries.
>We decided a year and a half ago that we play in Baku which has a modern stadium of 70,000. I think there is only one stadium in England that is bigger.
And what the fuck is the point of a capacity that large when clubs can only bring 1-2k fans due to the location
>"We have to develop football everywhere not England, Germany only,"
Bullshit, UEFA doesn't care about these altruistic goals. They're corrupt as fuck, and they should be ashamed that a player couldn't even safely go over there for a football match
>Azerbaijan teams will never reach a final
t. Nostradamus
The price of hotels in Madrid went upto £850+ per night. The reality is that there's incredibly few cities that have the infastructure to host the Champions League final now.
I ended up having to stay in Bilbao and get a coach in for the day of the game. Lots slept in airports/cars
>People live there
Azerbaijanis live there. Not people.
>OP baiting anglos for being whingeing poms
>whole thread is seething anglos complaining about everything
like pottery
People in Madrid should have rented our their spare rooms and made some extra money.
>"If somebody asks me why we played in Baku, I would say: people live there, homosapiens live there
Is this guy for real? LMAO.
>third world country
>in asia
>half of the stadium was empty
>player couldn't go because of ethnic tensions
>incredibly hard to get to
>fuck all infrastructure
Fuck off you did it because they paid you
Israel
>We decided a year and a half ago that we play in Baku which has a modern stadium of 70,000. I think there is only one stadium in England that is bigger.
If you have 20,000 empty seats what's the fucking point?
UEFA is trying to deflect accusations of corruption by directing hate towards other groups of people
it's not even just anglos, anyone with half a brain knows it was a stupid idea
How could there have been a rise in demand if the stadium was fucking empty? They artificially and pre emptively set the prices higher
They did on AirBnB, but the supply was still nowhere near the demand.
Especially when English clubs make it as they tend to have huge away followings, I imagine the only cities that can cope now are London/Paris/Munich(?).
Homosapiens live in the ISS too, lets all go there for the next CL Final.
>Absolutely everyone criticises decision to host the game in Azerbaijan
>Amnesty International say it's a terrible decision, meant to deflect from Azerbaijan's war crimes
>Respond by encouraging people to view the whole situation as "Brits being racist"
welp
What would've happened had an Armenian team made the final.
Baku absolutely should not have been awarded the final, that's obvious.
Now, they've hosted Eurovision and F1 GP there already so the city should have the appropriate amenities based on that.
Most of the complaining was regarding the lack of flights, the rumours of no direct flights from London, that kind of shit.
There's 2 problems with this. It doesn't exist being the first.
>both of the teams in the finals are from the same area and nobody from that area can even get to the finals
>this isn't a problem
Ceferin just made himself an enemy of the PL with that shit.
They're glazing over the human rights issues and trying to paint the narrative that "racist English fans" are the only ones who were against it because it masks their corruption
Agreed. Pic related is literally the only reason Baku got the EL final, a spot in Euro 2020 and have a F1 GP there.
The lack of direct flights was a rumour. It wasn't true. There were several flights available both direct and with connection via Istanbul. This was easily confirmed by actually looking up flights instead of dumbly agreeing with whatever some idiot said on tweeter with a blue tick.
Anyway, whatever. Baku was a bad choice but moreso for political reasons rather than geographical location and available amenities.
Brits feel at home in the middle East
>Azerbaijan
>Middle East
american geography at its finest
>create light hearted joke thread
>go away for an hour
>expect anglo banter when coming back
>thread is 95% serious business
yikes
People are angry about UEFA corruption, what did you expect?
Your people literally starved to death in WW1 because of Britain
this is just typical UEFA trying to channel anti-English attitudes and stereotypes about English people being xenophobic to cover up the fact that UEFA took backhanders from a oil rich dictatorship that openly celebrates war crimes and human rights abuses.
need i remind you that ramil safarov, an azeri army lieutenant hacked a young armenian lieutenant to death in his bed during a a NATO program in hungary, then drenched in blood attempted to break into another armenian's room. when questioned by police, his only regret was not killing more armenians. not only was he openly praised by azerbaijan's human rights commissioner and president, but the azeri government bribed the hungarian government to extradite him and he was pardoned and given a hero's welcome. these are the people uefa is in bed with, the fact that they are accusing us of all this shit when they couldn't even guarantee henrikh mkhitaryan's safety shows how low they've stooped for money.
>posts quote from UEFA president
>"why are people responding to a quote from UEFA's president?"
>soccer
kek who the fuck cares
win wars
Based anglos
>siding with UEFA
Cringe.
>Stade De France - France
Thanks for clarifying, would never have guessed
