Really? I thought Man Utd fan loved him

Whatever he is he's still a Scouser

United fans love him. They just hated him in his final seasons for being a fat alcoholic who declined at 28 while making £300,000 per week

no, they hate him for threatening to go to City and handing in transfer requests numerous times to get more money

the best player of the past 10 years at their peak
1. Messi
2. Rooney

simple as.

Based and redpilled. Rooney may not have scored as many as Ronaldo but during his 30+ goal seasons he was not only scoring but involving himself at every developmental stage of play at an elite level

He is the best English player in modern history

Rooney was the best player in the 08 squad despite what Ronniefags will tell you. In fact I recall about a 5 week period where he had a huge dip in form and it was the same time everyone was saying that the "excitement" had faded from the team's playstyle. Ronaldo just papered over this with some banging freekicks. Rooney is the real MVP

>They just hated him in his final seasons for being a fat alcoholic who declined at 28
His decline was Ferguson's fault for forcing him to play through injury and pumping him full of painkillers

it's crazy he's only 33. I remember back in 2006 seeing him in my doctors office with a cr7 poster

wow asking for more money, what a piece of shit

sauce

He will be revered in 5 years time much like Wenger at Arsenal, once the bitter end fades from memory.

It's just a minority of Utd fans who think he isn't a legend

Does anyone here have that one copy pasta where its the age of the rooney

wenger wasnt even a bitter end, it was half his reign, like 2008 onwards was shit

The fire crackles as the children gasp in awe. Snow begins to fall outside the window as your tale comes to an end, but the youngsters are still thirsty for more. 'Tell us about the two he scored against Andorra again Grandpapa' one child begs. 'No, no! The legendary brace vs Kazakhstan!' implores another. The oldest boy pipes up. 'Be quiet you two, Grandad tells those ones all the time. Go on, tell us the one you promised us last time - the penalty vs Slovenia...Grandad..G-Grandad?'
The rocking chair creaks to a halt. A serene expression is on your face and all of Rooney's goals flash before your eyes in your final moments as the children embrace you. His one World Cup goal, The legendary double in Minsk. That tap in against Liechenstien. they know whats happening and are scared, but calm.
The last thing you hear as you slide into the black warmth of death is the youngest boy - old beyond his years, a football fanatic who spends every free moment outside kicking his battered leather ball against the wall 'Dont be sad, he lived a hell of a life...in the age of Rooney.'

I like Rooney but he's not a club legend.

The word "legend" has been watered down to fuck. It used to mean pulling a sword out of a stone and killing a dragon, now it means downing two pints of lager in a row.

Rooney is a club 'great' and should be remembered for that. But legends deserve statues and stands named after them. Rooney does not.

1. He was arguably never the best player in the team (although I think he was better than Ronaldo in 2008).

2. He on more than one occasion, tried to engineer a move away from the club and/or tried to improve his contract and pay.

3. The way he declined after he turned 27 was pretty disappointing and a lot of that is down to how he looked after himself and his body. He was a heavy drinker in pre-season and has been caught smoking a few times. Compare that to someone like Ronaldo who treats their body like a temple. He basically couldn't be arsed and cheated us (and himself) out of 3-4 more prime Rooney years.

4. Personal life isn't something I really give a shit about but to cheat on your pregnant wife with a prostitute is pretty low.

So not a legend for me.

Sir Matt
Sir Bobby
Sir Alex

Only three nailed on legends.

Arguable legend:

Best
Law
Cantona
Robson
Giggs
Scholes

Nope:
Ronaldo
Rooney
van Nistelrooy
Vidic
Rio
and everyone else

HE is a UTD legend.

Cantona is a United legend. Dragged them out of their wilderness years

rio is the best defender in your clubs history and won everything, bit harsh 2bh

Rio is the best defender in football history.

Based retards.

>inb4 muh leddit
sure, but it's a decent sample of fans.

He was the best player in the team after Ronaldo left and before van Persie came in. 2009-2012

Was Rooney really that good? Thought it was a meme. I only ever watched him play in WCs, and felt like he was shit like the rest of Englands team.

Fucking this, what world were you living in? Ferguson straight up admitted his team was way too reliant on Rooney during that point in time.

He's a legend though

Rooney carried United to a CL final after Ronaldo left, he had an absolute shit tier squad.

>The way he declined after Ferguson left
ftfy

Carrick was better. So was Scholes.

Rio and Vidic were better.

Evra was better.

Reliant on Rooney's goals perhaps, but swap Rooney for any top forward (i.e. Aguero, Drogba, Benzema, Lewdowski etc. etc.) and they'd score the same amount of goals in that team.

He was terrible in Fergie's last year.

And his decline was clear the season before, he was still worthy of a starting place but he wasn't close to the level of Messi/Ronaldo.
