Friendly reminder that when they last won the Stanley Cup, over 50 years ago... the NHL only had six teams. Yes, six teams in the entire league.

>1967 was 65 years ago

Lads, how are they so shit? Things don't add up
>big city

reminder that TWO (2) NBA teams were founded in Canada, one of them moved to Memphis and the last remaining one took nearly a quarter of a century to win an NBA Championship ALL MORE RECENTLY THAN THE LAST CANADIAN STANLEY CUP AHAHAHAHAH

>with the blues win the laffs are now the team with the longest stanley cup drought

hahahahahhahahahahahaha

what a stupid logo. i aint never seen a blue leaf before

A mix of the Toronto sports media and unrealistic expectations from delusional fans poisoning the well. Their players often get traded away to other teams where they can find actual success. It's a lot easier when you're not micromanaged to the point where you'll get the social equivalent of a lynching if you're not perfect. They want a superstar team yesterday.

Don't forget
>Only team in by far the biggest Canadian market

Maybe Bill Barilko's body went missing again?

traded good old Saskatchewan boy Wendell Clark for some soft fucking yuro faggot and made him their captain! the rest is history.

>No MLB Championships
Okay Canada

Literal retard.

I fucking miss Gord

They're never going to win another cup. Ever.

OH NO NO NO

Toronto isn't even a hockey city anymore. Chinks and pajeets love basketball and soccer. The only reason the Leafs sell out every game is because half the crowd is there on corporate packages.

Bad management. Their fans are too loyal to team for boycotting the fuck out of 'em to force changes to management. The laff way of doing things is essentially following: 1. Hire mostly overvalued hasbeens. 2. Get those trades done at expense of future using high draft picks as deal sweeteners. 3. Trade out good players that can't shit done in Toronto due being played at wrong roles with wrong line mates.

The old way of just using a lot of money doesn't work in salary gap era, even fucking rags have realized it.

>traded good old Saskatchewan boy Wendell Clark for some soft fucking yuro faggot and made him their captain! the rest is history.
Sundin the greatest player in history of franchise and he is one few rare great trades they made back then.

I don't entirely believe you because the last time I went to a game against Toronto in Detroit half the people in there were Laffs fans. They caused a massive traffic jam on the way out too, all the way to the damned Windsor tunnel. They have a cult like devotion to their shitty team and actually believe it's going to turn around any day now. Listening to them talk about it is depressing and hilarious at once.

>Sundin
Good player, too bad they couldn't assemble anything resembling a good team around him. He also wasn't the type who could drag his team to victory despite their overall shittyness.

Breh... 92 and 93

Those fans don't come from Toronto. They're from the still largely white rural hockey-loving areas surrounding the gta who probably can't even afford a seat at the ACC/whatever fucking bank the arena is named after now. They make the trek down to the cheap gas and no-all-dressed-chips-having american shitholes to get affordable tix.

>no-all-dressed-chips-having
That's not really a problem because they won't hang around long enough after. After 3-4 hours of sitting in their car they'll be in Windsor.

Can you blame them for not wanting to hang around in Detroit?

Depends on what you want to do. I'd love to live in Windsor myself. It's safe to the point of being so boring you would want to bash your head against the wall if you lingered around there too long. But you can always jump on the tunnel bus real cheap and go see hockey, baseball, football, or concerts, have some coney dogs, chill downtown... Then when it's all done you just ride back to the place where nothing ever happens. Best of both worlds imo, close enough to enjoy the benefits without having to actually live there. When I did live there I saw busloads of Canadians getting dropped off in Red Wings and Tigers gear every week.

>They have a cult like devotion to their shitty team and actually believe it's going to turn around any day now. Listening to them talk about it is depressing and hilarious at once.
That is why their delusion is so beautiful.

>Good player, too bad they couldn't assemble anything resembling a good team around him. He also wasn't the type who could drag his team to victory despite their overall shittyness.
He absolutely was a player who could drag his team higher than they should be and turn around games that were already lost, too bad he did most that in national team, at expense of Finland. Toronto had more than bit of shitty luck in who played against them in their playoffs in late 90's and early 2000's. Things like contemporary Devils and people that could absolutely turn around games like Dominik Hasek. Combine that with their amazing tendency to choke in playoffs and habit of making shitty trades you'll get why they don't have any cups since 1967.

This is why they are complete shit decades later, they fucking made stupid trades and pissed money away cause they knew fans would buy out all the seats no matter the price.

They aren't willing to do proper long term team rebuilding or generally do long term planning consistently. Only way to do team rebuilding in salary cap era is the long way through draft. Takes few years to do that. Their and rags way is just the opposite. It is like choose to remain mediocre underachievers. In until early 2000's it was possible to build winning teams with money.
