Jeremy Lin grew up in the San Francisco area and didn't get any scholarships for being the best player because he was Asian. Since he wasn't given any scholarship, he got into Harvard based on scholastic merit and then tried out for their basketball team. Eventually no team wanted him in the NBA so he started playing in the lower leagues until he met a coach that gave him 1 opportunity to play in the NBA. But only because he was at risk of being fired and his team was losing every game since every player was injured.

Lin came on and then he went on a rampage for 1 month, outscoring everyone (Lin-sanity , a play on his name Jeremy Lin + Instanity). He got his knee hurt after a month and was never the same, ended up being a benchwarmer the rest of his career because Carmelo Anthony wouldn't let him play at the New York Knicks once he got healthy.

Fast forward a decade and Carmelo Anthony isn't in the NBA anymore and Lin just won a National Championship tonight.

It's also very telling that none of the people involved during Linsanity had great careers after. Fields, Novak, Shumpert, Jefferies, Chandler, Novak, and Lin himself all faded away. But together, with D'Antoni, they were a well oiled machine. Basketball is a team sport, and that team was entertaining as fuck to watch. I loved watching Lin pass to one of the big guys and having them slam down a basket. Novak hit threes like he was Steph Curry before Steph Curry. And Lin and Fields had such great chemistry.
