But what is there in soccer that stops the players from just passing the ball over and over until the game is over?

What makes football the best sport in the world are the fast turnovers. It is simply not possible to hold onto the ball without shifting it quickly, which in itself risks losing the ball.

You can tackle, not a million miles away from checking you just have to go for the ball not the man. Basketball would be way better if they got rid of the shot clock but made tackling legal.

If a player doesn’t have the ball and they stop you from entering the circle it’s a foul.
Then you win possession with a free kick.

And then you run towards the goalie who then has to kick the ball into the field.

If the goalie is allowed to touch the ball why not just let him in carry the ball to the other side and tackle the other goalie?

Only being able to use your feet to move the ball makes it difficult to completely play keepers off. So they have to keep it moving. Simple.

Because to reduce the chances of not fucking up a pass the players would have to be really close together but then it's easy for the opposition to press with just a few players with the others free and when they get the ball back it's a guaranteed goal. The fundamental rule is that when you have the ball you should make the field as big as possible and when you don't you should make it as small as possible.
