It's honestly impressive how they didn't win jack shit with such a stacked team
Internal rivalries got the better of them I imagine

half of those players got exposed bad when they signed for Spanish teams

Mbappe and Pogba is more overrated than any of those players ever were

this

also based finidi was nigerian

yet they won :^)

N'pogba and the other n'gubus had little to do with it

Pogba was mediocre at best, Mbappe worse than Pogba
As I said, the English team was stacked, but they didn't win anything because they couldn't play with each other, for one reason or another

It was even more based a few years later

weird to think that some of these players are still active

Attached: dcfc.jpg (976x549, 140K)

Should've sacrificed babby Rooney and played a 4-5-1

----Seaman---

Neville --- Rio --- Terry --- Cole

Beckham --- Scholes --- Lamps --- J. Cole

----------- Gerrard ----------------

------------- Owen --------------

Sub Rooney on for Owen or Gerrard in the 60th minute...but no...the British media wanted them to all play together and to play the boring unimaginative 4-4-2.

none of that madrid squad is active

casillas?

RIP

Should have won something.

Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard problem people kept moaning about, should have had em all rotating in the middle and either play 1 up front or leave Becks/Nev to annoy on the right and whoever needed on the left move over.

A good manager would have at least gotten a WC final appearance out of that group

I take it Gerrard being AMF due to partnership for Owen?

Would you allow all 2 CMF/1 AMF to rotate aswell and go with a 2 move forward one stay back?

It was Sven at the time i think, who was availible back then i cannt remember.

>PK7 not on his toes

>I take it Gerrard being AMF due to partnership for Owen?
Yes.

Lampard and Joe Cole and Scholes and Beckham chemistry in midfield means they would be no need for them to clash. yet I don't think they ever lined up like this even once, not even as a test run. It was always 4-4-2 with Scholes of all people playing on the left and baby Rooney ineffectively running around like a headless chicken.

Drogba carried this team hard

No they never did, Scholes always ended up on the left and most likely why he quit playing for England.

Rooney was supposed to be the next English footballing god because he ran about a bit scored some good goals and was built for a 17yr old.

how did this win the ucl?

felt like 2 hattricks every game in FM

I'd have Lampard be the primary AM and Scholes be box-to-box. Attack would primarily be from the left with Joe and Ashley Cole with Beckham dropping in central to create space for Neville overlapping runs. If Owen would get bullied for his size, then I'd bring on Rooney, or if I was really desperate, bring on Crouch and have Beckham whip crosses to him for fun. But that time is past and gone now. Too bad.

Who's n°4?

Marchena

>no hargreaves

Media didn't want him to even be in the squad.

back in the day i follwed united so i remember pretty well when ferdinand and later alan smith moved there
kewell and viduka were pretty known too
dacourt i remember him from inter

Rooney was literally on fire at that tournament and there are many (outside of the English media) who say England would have been favourites to win the tournament if he was fit

Also Scholes - Lampard midfield would’ve got overrun all the time

Viduka, Mills?, Martyn, Rio, Harte?
Smith, Bowyer, Dacourt?, Matteo, Batty, Kewell

how did i do?

Viduka
Ferdinand
Smith
Bowyer
Kewell

Oh dacourt
I thought it was dion Dublin lmao

doesn't mean he wasn't your best defensive mid
4-5-1 with beckham, lampard, hargreaves, gerrard, cole and owen

So you'd bench Scholes and play Hargreaves? Bold move. Especially given how much Manure fans at the time loved Scholes.

should have gone christmas tree

Beckham---Hargreaves---Lampard
----------Scholes---Gerrard------------
-----------------Owen---------------------

You need beckham to stay wide tho otherwise there’s no point playing ahead of another more industrious midfielder

Fuck I remember Essien
It was so sad to see him get explodingkneeitis

scholes was too slow for a midfileder with that group of players, not saying he wasn't good, but becks was slow, j cole was a pure winger, gerrard (in this system) was an amc, so it was him or lampard; but lampard was better overall imo

Then you're stuck wasting Lampard on the left

they were so deadly that one of them died after the wc.

So Lampard's on the left but Beckham's too central
ok

If you're going to play Hargreaves then you need to drop Beckham.

I still like my team better: If you need to hold onto a lead you can sub out J. Cole and bring on Hargreaves. Push Gerrard back into midfield then bring on Rooney for Owen.

I feel like between Dante and Boateng, Boateng was the real liability around this time. Though Dante fell of fairly quickly in following seasons.

I didn’t say Lampard was on the left. That was that other cunt

well you'll have knock your heads together and make your fucking minds up won't you then chaps?

JOE COLE ON THE LEFT
BECKHAM ON THE RIGHT
GERRARD BEHIND OWEN

LAMPARD/SCHOLES IN THE MIDDLE OR LAMPARD/HARGREAVES OR LAMPARD/CARRICK

IT REALLY WASNT THAT HARD BUT NO MUH WAYNE AND HIS NUT STOMPING ANTICS COST YOU THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT

The amount of cocaine in their dressing room must have been unreal.

Go fuck yourself you fucking twat

interesting counterpoint

I remember it like it was last year

Attached: 15273544365028.jpg (990x557, 248K)

O TWAIN

I remember when Mario Gomez was the best striker in the world around this time and I used to really love watching him play. Dunno why I just did. Also his girlfriend at the time was hot as fuck.

Attached: barcelona-gano-cuarta-copa-europa-wembley-2011-1478803410665.jpg (597x336, 71K)

All of them did something, and Cech went god mode.

It was mostly Drogba

Alex Ferguson was a fucking wizard

>That midfield
Mostly just defenders and he somehow made it work and even won the league

John O'Shea used to be alright in midfield until he got incredibly slow from constant injuries.

fuck off stop ruining this thread

Cant not play 442 though was the english mental state

Quads but need a DMF or at least have scholes and gerrard rotate between them for some defence.

Viduka, Mills, Martyn, Ferdinand, Harte i think, Smith, Bowyer, Batty and Kewell.

Hargreaves played out of his skin against portugal after rooney fucked up.

I think if it is going to be a 5man mid, Hargreaves needs to be in for some defence, Scholes/Lamps and Gerrard are all too attacking unless you want to play a Diamond and drop Beckham and Cole and have no wingers and 2 upfront or just 1 with one on the wing.

before he got injured in the 2010 CL between the first and second legs vs Bayern Munich Rooney was unironically the best player in the world. Never ever recovered after that.

Ideally:

-------------- Hargreaves ------------

Beckham ---- Lampard ------ Joe Cole

----------- Gerrard -------------------

------ Owen ----------

would have been the most sensible choice. Dropping Beckham at the time was unthinkable.

If you want to play with 2 strikers then you have to drop either Lampard or Gerrard, you can't play both. Lampard at Chelsea was used to playing with only Drogba at front cause Chelsea was all about 4-3-3 he never looked comfortable playing a 4-4-2.

gerrard over scholes is just retarded. most overrated player in the history of the game.

It was excruciatingly sad to see him struggling against Berlin farmers in the Bundesliga relegation playoff a few days ago.

to be fair he always looked like he was struggling, there was just a time where he'd struggle to almost a goal a game.

Gerrard behind Owen makes more sense than Scholes.

no Scholes actually played very well in that position for United in the early 2000s
personally I'd rather have Gerrard running end to end, rather than Scholes giving up yellow cards pretending to defend

Dropping anyone was unthinkable at the time in the end.
I think i would have had Scholes in the mid and not Lamps
It has to be Gerrard Owen due to club partnership and playing week in and week out

TOO WH*TE

Attached: 1200px-Juventus_vs_Milan_2003-05-28.svg.png (1200x1658, 144K)

>Owen and Scholes up front
>The manlet duo
Nah Scholes was way too old and too slow to be that high up the pitch. Gerrard is way too error prone to be trusted as a DM or box-to-box and he gifted Henry a free chance on goal in 04 and Suarez a free goal in 2014. That's why in my ideal team I would never ever play him in midfield, I'd rather drop him completely from the team or have him as a second striker.

>Dropping Lampard when he was a 20 goals a season midfielder
Realistically if anyone was to be dropped it was Beckham but he was the captain and a national hero and Sven was too much of a coward to stand his ground.

I don't want Owen but he was England's best striker at the time. If Mourinho was managing he'd have dropped Beckham and have it been:

Gerrard---- Hargreaves ---- Carrick

----Lampard ----

--- Rooney ---- J.Cole ---

At the very least this team would have made it to a major final winning 1-0 on the way there.

You mean Rivaldo?

Not this one, but you look at this team and only Sneijder, Eto'o and Milito are attack minded, everyone else can play as a defender.

Attached: maicon.png (335x428, 92K)

Not sure what you’re getting at but when Inter went a man down vs Barca, Sneijder was the player furthest forward. Not sure if that counts.

>that time Real Madrid fielded a 2-5-3 vs Juventus in the Champions League
Any other examples of managers going for broke and using completely bogus formations?

When Guardiola went to Barca with his Bayern team in 2015, he used outrageous tactics. Can’t remember the formation but the defensive line was so high, basically sat on the half way line, in the Camp Nou of all places. Barca got through on goal with the half practically to themselves a number of times.

I know his Barca side played a 3-3-4 at least one time

He used to push everyone forward and only leave Boateng at the half way line.

>you know remember Patrick Kluivert killing his career by going to Newcastle when he was 28.
