Currently, the Phoenix only have 7 players whose contracts go into next season.

Goddamn it, I didn't realize Arriola was Mexican. Good point about the Slavs, but that makes it even worse because there aren't even enough whites to field a full team using the current 40 man roster, so I had to cheat and bring in Canouse from Berhalter's roster for the January-February friendlies.

The Kleibans are the best characters in the MLS Extended Universe, right?
Eli Gonzalez
you gotta make an official Quick Rundown™ on The Kleibans for those of us who aren't on twatter hell, one of them getting sacked by the LAGS we completely missed the context on because of there not being a rundown available.
Yes. They grew up in Los Angeles as the kids of Argie immigrants. They were somewhat autistic Argieboos who would study Bielsa (before he was cool) and read books about coaching, shit like that. In the 2000s, when Beckham Mania was sweeping MLS and there was an MLS reality TV show, these two brothers decided that they fucking hated MLS and wanted to destroy it and that if they didn't do something, MLS would waste generations of talent.
However, unlike most people who read about coaching and decide to try it, Brian is by all accounts incredibly good. He worked with Barcelona academy in LA, went to run Chivas USA academy. Then went with all his kids to LAGs
Gary decided to become a scout, but in a weird way, guiding Latino kids around LA into his brother's team as part-agent. Gary also ran social media hyping these kids up, and increasingly being mad in people's replies. But really, all the shit that Gary was autistically screeching about for years about the USMNT and MLS turned out to be true, he's been right about how the US would fuck up for a few years now.
Well, long story short, Gary is an asshole and always online and pissed everyone off and got a bad reputation but Brian was always distant and unconnected from it. They probably would have lingered in the pack of social media commentators and academy coaches until LA Galaxy discovered that B+G actually believed all the things they had said a decade before, about how MLS fucking sucked and they were going to destroy it. Gary had been working as an agent for local LA talent: get them signed with MLS academy that his brother ran, get them some game time, film it, then market his talents to European academies, all the while telling Doyle and Lalas they were a fucking idiots, spamming Bob Bradley's email inbox, etc.
It's the combination of being the only successful "reads Inverting the Pyramid once" people, being autistic MLS smarks, and also deciding to fuck over MLS irl

>it's a Union look like the better team by far, get a ton of chances that they can't put on target or finish, and give up a goal on a dumb mistake on a counter episode Things really do never change. Why the fuck can't Curtin get a win against a bunkering team?
Dude, every team only gets 4 chartered flights. (((They))) - the league owners - say that they can't afford to give them all chartered flights which is bullshit really given how much money they still rake in.
how many mid-season friendlies are they up to now? All-Star, Liga MX, all the European teams. Then with ICC saturation and Ligue 1 doing a bunch of shit, all while Gold Cup and the Women's World Cup get played.
i think the bubble of mega-money friendlies in the USA is about to burst. eventually one of these games will only draw 2000 people and then they will all just stop
Nicholas Peterson
All I know is that the World Cup is so big that even Wondo had features done about him, his interesting heritage, and his tribe were going to get together to watch all the games etc because he was the most famous person ever to come from where they were. Make me wonder

>almost half way through the season and LAFC's goal difference is greater than the number of goals scored by every team except one (Philly) Is it... time to take them seriously?
>Yet even as he discusses this brave new world of player-coach dynamics, Curtin almost can’t help slipping back into the old school.
>“You have to be open and listen to a lot of different guys from a lot of different cultures,” he says. “All these guys speak the same language, though—the second the game ends now, every fucking one of them gets on their cell phone. ‘What are they saying about me?’ That’s more important to them. It’s like ‘c’mon, guys, we just won, we worked all week for this. Let’s fucking celebrate here, let’s go drink a beer or something.’”
lel not pulling punches
Zachary Cooper
>Curtin is also subjected to some fan’s negative perceptions of American coaches, in particular American coaches with who spent their entire playing careers in Major League Soccer. In short, many believe Curtin—along with other MLS born-and-bred guys like Ben Olsen and Mike Petke—to be basic, tactically simple-minded and naive.
>“There’s an element of me that gets a little offended when guys like me and Ben get those statements made about us and people don’t really look at the data,” Curtin says. “In many ways I think it’s because we’re just ‘MLS guys,’ because he’s a ‘Bruce (Arena) guy’ or I’m a ‘Bob guy,’ people think we don’t have our own ideas, you know what I mean? It’s ridiculous. Everybody has read ‘the books’ on coaching but what happens when shit happens that’s not in any of the them? Who can really solve the problems? That’s the real shit. It’s the stuff we’ve gotten better at as American coaches over the years—and it’s maybe the part of coaching people don’t see the most.”
Jonathan Young
>Curtin’s mind remains focused almost entirely on his work with the Union, but he does have other ambitions. He talks about former New York Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch glowingly. Like Curtin, Marsch rose through the ranks as a hard-working player and a similarly hard-working coach. Then he found himself on Ralf Rangnick’s staff as an assistant at Red Bull Leipzig, and will take over Red Bull Salzburg in Austria this coming season. Marsch is one of the few American-born-and-bred managers to make the leap to a European club. Curtin wouldn’t mind following him some day.
>“What Jesse is doing is inspirational,” says Curtin. “Going overseas, being uncomfortable, trying to do it in a different environment. I am excited by that challenge. I love MLS and I want it to grow to the highest level possible. But to not have an ambition to someday coach in Europe, or coach a national team, you’d be crazy … Winning an Olympic medal with the U-23 national team would be epic.”
>As for that perception that the bulk of American coaches are unfit to coach in Europe? Curtin does not necessarily see that changing anytime soon. He points to his former head coach in Chicago as an example as to why.
>“People talk about what happened with Bob at Swansea,” he says. “But they refuse to look at what he did (in Norway, at) Stabæk. Break that down on paper and that blows everything else out of the water. He got so much out of so little, resource-wise.”
>“(For the perception to change, the success) almost has to come in the EPL,” concludes Curtin. “More American coaches have to do it in Europe and on the terms that the ‘eurosnobs’ set. You just have to kick those doors down. You still see it even with the perception of the American player—’yeah they’re fast, athletic and hard-working. But they lack tactical awareness.’ It’s the same lines for coaches. Yeah he can do it in MLS, but he’d be chewed up and spit out in Europe.”

>Winning an Olympic medal with the U-23 national team would be epic maybe call up Earnie and let him know that, because the team isn't even on course to qualify
He crashed hard in stock, even for a young guy. It probably started with letting in 4 goals to a Panamanian team, then they brought in Westberg as a way to make the spot competitive (in the hopes it would motivate him to be good again) but they've been pretty interchangeable in terms of stats.
John Cook
>Bono 15 goals in 8 games, 1 shutout (only 10 in 6 games if you factor out CCL) >Westberg 12 goals in 7 games, 2 shutouts
I'd say, based on what I've seen on Twitter, maybe 2 of every 3 TFC fans prefer Westberg.
>Jozy, that's an interesting name, how'd you get that? >oh my parents named me after the famous soccer player >who? >Jozy Altidore. The two-time World Cup star striker? The two-time USSF Player of the Year? The three-time Canadian Championship winner? >oh alright, cool name though

This is child abuse
Ayden Morris
What's sad is that Bono will cry for a move to another sad team that's pathetic enough to pick him up within the league and then you'll hear delusional SUMafia shills who love to market wh*toids in MLS proclaim him to be the next USA gk ahead of Horvath/Steffen.
Dominic Butler
I doubt it tbqh. If Bono can't start over Westberg, a 33 year old who's spent most of his career in the French second and third divisions, he shouldn't be given the USMNT job. I'd be surprised if he ever got called up again. >Tim Melia has never been given a callup criminal tbqh
Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen) Jonathan Lewis (Colorado Rapids) Corey Baird (Real Salt Lake) Christian Ramirez (Los Angeles FC)

Horvath is injured, apparently. Hopefully he recovers in time for the tournament. Trapp and Sargent weren't cut. Guzan being cut really surprised me, though.

so during the RSL game, Shep Messing and whoever the other announcer is were shitting on Klinsmann because he didn't play Kyle Beckerman enough during the 2014 World Cup (Doyle and Co. agree, fyi)
but they also said that Howard was at risk of being benched because he wasn't playing well (he wasn't), which all but confirms Howard as one of the players who went to NY to get Klinsmann fired and Bruce appointed because they thought it was their only chance of making the WC squad

Angel Cruz
he had a great game against Belgium and he had a good save % in the tournament but only because the defending was so shit (even in the Belgium game a lot of those saves were routine). I don't recall anyone praising Howard after skimming past Ghana and the draw with Portugal when Howard gave up the game by letting Portugal score from a simple cross in the last seconds
benching him at the time might sound crazy, and I doubt Jurgen had any good ideas of how to fix it, but the entire back of that team needed to be reworked and dropping the keeper to get a change isn't some disgusting, sacrilegious idea that SUM shills treat it as
are you really actually trying to put that Portugal goal on Howard that was Bradlel turning the ball over in midfield, Ronaldo lofting in a sweet sweet pass, and Cameron losing track of his man
Gavin Perez
yeah, if Howard was actually in the peak of his career as some would like to imagine or remember and in untouchable form, he could have jumped and grabbed the ball that was 5 feet off the ground a few yards in front of him.
If instead he was already on the decline in reaction time, already nursing long-term hip and knee injuries, already ready to be replaced after a decade of starting for the Turtles, already being lined up for replacement by his club side, then thinking about dropping him after a series of subpar performances wouldn't be a bad idea
Neutral fan, didn't watch the game. What was the refball the loons are crying about?
