Sumo thread: Day 15 edition

Let's close it out boys.

Props to Tochi, though it wouldn't surprise me if Kakuryu was in on it.

FUCK YES
HENKA
I JUST SAW THIS SHIT
UP YOUR ASS, ASSOCIATION

>trump finally sees sumo live
>champion is already known
>tochinoshin made his 10 wins
>takakeicho is out
>hakuho is out
>enho is injured
>ichinojo is injured

Attached: absolutely fine.png (612x396, 71K)

Definitely agree with all the anons in the previous thread who were saying that henka was a statement, that's exactly how it came off to me especially since he never ever does that shit otherwise and it's totally contrary to his style of sumo. Don't care that it happened to Kak either, normally at this point Hakuho would have 13-14 wins and have already clinched the tournament, so whining about no final-day excitement is both limp and newfag tier.

>>enho is injured
Poor bastard didn't even make it through a single basho, and he's still to face any Sanyaku dudes. We'll see him for maybe one more basho imo, as with his 7-8 they shouldn't boot him down to Juryo yet.

Conspiracy shit: EVERY gaijin rikishi HATES the NSK because they're always getting fucked over in favor of local Japs. Kakuryu was so pissed about that decision against foreign Tochi on day 13 that he made sure to give Tochi a nice easy win as a big FUCK YOU to the NSK.

How many Japs will win a title before Takayasu? Is that the 5th or 6th?

Asanoyama and Ryuden were very impressive

which ranking will have Ms22e Naya after a 6-1?

Ms6-Ms8

BASED Tochi

Here we are
All the lads

Attached: 1547541990583.jpg (900x1200, 150K)

yeah looks like it, but jumping to Juryo from Ms8 is almost impossible, from Ms6 is doable: needs a yusho or losing in playoff, or a 6-1 if the others underperform, right?

Also, I've noticed that Juryo has only 14 ranks: maybe they'll go back to 15? Makuuchi underperformed in a weird basho, maybe they'll shrink the Maegashira ranks now that there are 4 ozeki. We'll see.

Best henka I've seen since Kotoshogiku got denied, lads

Anything's possible depending on how many guys in juryo and upper makushita shit the bed, but it is more likely that he'll need another tournament at Ms1-Ms3 before finally crossing the threshold into heaven.

>they'll shrink the Maegashira ranks now that there are 4 ozeki.
Depends on the sekiwake and komosubi clusterfuck we're going to have at the end of this basho.

Shamefur dispray.
Chokury should retire.

Attached: Opera Снимок_2019-05-25_195759_www.youtube.com.png (1055x564, 527K)

No way we're getting more than two each after this, especially with Toch promoted. Mitakeumi will get sekiwake east, both Ichinojo and Aoiyama will get bumped back down to maegashira, the only question is who fills in the other three spots and in what order.

Who is the Conor McGregor of Sumo?

The short answer is nobody because McGregor is a special kind of unrepentant douchebag that would get tossed out of sumo before hitting Jonidan, but in terms of "cocky record-breaking top guy that people pay to hate" then Hakuho fits the bill perfectly.

I agree
I just checked out of curiosity when we had shrinked ranks and I've found Nagoya 2011 with M15 + J13, but that doesn't count since it was after the scandal. It looks like we'll have M16 + J14 again; it wasn't a problem with 6 ozeki.

Im happy for Tochi, now I hope my other boi Takayasu is healed and ready for the next basho!

Attached: D18eLgVUkAA-XKo.jpg (1024x788, 136K)

Sanyaku got their shit pushed in this basho.

Only like half of them, and even then all but Aoiyama were fucked to injury. It's mostly Toch being repromoted plus Takakeisho still being ozeki-kadoban next tournament, so that plus half the lower sanyaku shitting the bed means there's three openings with Mitakeumi taking the fourth.

>Aoiyama will get bumped back down to maegashira

Wait a second.
If he beats Ryuden and go 7-8 maybe he will go down only from K1e to K1w; that's probably why they chose Ryuden as his opponent in the final day.
When you go 8-7 or 7-8 the changes in the ranks could be very little.

Not with how many upper and mid maegashira have good ranks. Asanoyama clinched the title is means it's almost guaranteed he'll make at least komusubi. Tamawashi has 10 wins, and there are four guys above Asanoyama currently with 9. I agree that this is probably why they picked Ryuden as his last opponent, but even if he wins he's still in danger if Abi wins, let alone if Shodai and/or Meisei also win. 10 wins has been enough to hit komusubi from as far down as M9 in recent history.

>Asanoyama clinched the title is means it's almost guaranteed he'll make at least komusubi.

not sure
going up to K from M after a yusho it happened, yes
but for example Kyokutenho went from M7w to M1e after a 12-3 yusho

sumodb.sumogames.de/Yusho.aspx

he's the only one that never went into Komusubi or Sekiwake after winning a title as maegashira, Asanoyama probably will be pushed up to Komusubi

Attached: holy fuck tochi.png (1271x216, 84K)

Difference being one of the sekiwake only went 7-8 which meant only a drop to komusubi with two spots open, and there were two people either significantly higher rank than Kyokutenho or with an equal score who got promoted to fill those two pots, and Kyokutenho himself got slotted as M1e. After this tournament there will be three spots open and I think the only way Asanoyama doesn't get in is if there's a logjam of 10-5s ahead of him.

He had all the right to henka that win after the bullshit the day before.

So much for the fucking leech therapy, holy shit. At this rate he'll miss July and be kadoban again for September.

>many seats will be kept empty on Sunday to ensure tight security.

throw your mats based japs, you can do it!

I thought it looked like he was back to not planting his feet. We could be in for a wild ride if he's constantly fighting off kadoban

His knee is fucked, and it's never going to heal without time off of it, and maybe steroids, but only Yokozuna can get away with stopping to rest.

Yesterday was the Bizarro World version of this
youtu.be/x6v69R8Zv0E

former ozeki Terunofuji lost to Daishosei down in sandanme day 8 (May 19)

youtube.com/watch?v=s-YOyMx7vK

Why is a henka looked down upon?

It's considered dishonorable

Because it's refusing to meet the opponent's force with your own force and instead redirecting your opponent's force so he essentially defeats himself. Now, a henka isn't always looked down on but it's very contextual. The crowd hated Terunofuji's henka on Kotoshogiku because Koto was fighting to regain ozeki and it was a shitty way to lose. The crowd loved Toch's henka to regain ozeki because he got robbed the previous match so it was tit-for-tat, plus a show that he didn't blame Asanoyama since the win also gave Asanoyama the title. Likewise henkas can be seen as clever by smaller, younger and lower ranked wrestlers, since it's acceptable for them to be crafty, but eventually they'll reach a point where they're expected to "grow out" of relying on it.

Not the same bong but good explanation, burgerlad. Just want to add that in Tochinoshin's case everyone also knows that he *never* henkas, even when injured; he's basically the avatar of the powersumo the japs want to see, which made the crowd much more sympathetic when he did pull it out.

I wonder if the crowd thinks Kakuryu is a bit dumb for a yokozuna since he seems to get caught by henkas more than other high rank guys.

>reach a point where they're expected to "grow out" of [it]

So at higher ranks they're supposed to be good enough / powerful enough to just blast somebody out or out-mawashi wrestle them then I guess.

The problem with that "should" shit is that the player is ALWAYS going to do do what they CAN to win, not what they "should". Good rules help meet the intent, while shitty rules encouraged "bad behaviors".

Just one of those cultural things.

Lads. I love sumo. I don't want to wait until July.

Attached: tochi.png (1920x1080, 1.28M)

>rules
would be interesting to allow henka only for rikishi that have a weight disadvantage, say >40% difference: 100 Kg vs. 140+ Kg for example

For me it's Henkaryu, the side-stepping dragon

Or just ban it already in the sanyaku ranks and be done with it.

How would you create a rule that actually bans henka without banning a simple shift in position? And besides that, if you're going to ban henka, what about slap-downs that are basically the same thing? You don't need to create a rule against it, wrestlers should be smart enough to avoid it.

>You don't need to create a rule against it
No, you're right, it's better to just bitch about it every time it happens like a bunch of women or beta man. Wait, that would be fucking stupid.

>how would you blah blah blah
No sanyaku rank rikishi may use henka to avoid initial contact at the tachia. Henka is defined as taking later movements to avoid the opponents charge at the tachiai.

There you go. How fucking hard is that. People want to try to Jew it? Fine them or make them resign.

Fixed.

fuck phoneposting.

>the player is ALWAYS going to do do what they CAN to win, not what they "should"
>t. doesn't know dick about Japanese culture
One of the reasons the Jappos historically figured foreigners could not become yokozuna and would be generally bad for sumo is the assumption that gaijin all have the mindset you described.

Fortunately it turns out that an oyakata with a golf club can take that kinda shit out of you and impart the real Japanese attitude of NEVER EXCEPT WHEN YES. The deliberation council's still felt the need to reprimand Hakuho for his drive to win several times, though.

If you love Toch you definitely want to wait until July, minimum. That knee is big fagoto and needs time to heal.
Just watch old Ura matches on Youtube or some shit.

Are there any interesting sumo documentaries?

>The problem with that "should" shit is that the player is ALWAYS going to do do what they CAN to win
Well, also related is how they don't want you to brutalize the other wrestler to get a win, even though that's not a rule. If I recall correctly, they asked Hakuhou to stop elbowing people in the jaw as much because he kept knocking guys out, and asked Tamawashi to stop using kotenage as much because he kept tearing everyone's arm muscles. The point is there are super-specific exceptions they have to make for every rule; in the case of henka, it's about dependence. If a rikishi can only and exclusively win by henka, then you chastise him for sucking at the other aspects of the sport. If Hakuhou gets a win by henka, nobody bats an eye - because they know he doesn't have to use it, he just chose to use it.

I have a theory that the Goeido vs Asanoyama match was fixed. The sumo association pounced to steal Tochinoshin’s win from him two days ago and then bribed Goeido to throw yesterday so that an ethnic Yamato Japanese would win the first Reiwa basho and be in all the papers with arrimo instead of Mongolian Kakuryu. The above videos are Goeido’s match with Asanoyama, and a show match between Hakuho and Kakuryu. As you can see, the sumo can make their show matches look pretty realistic. Goeido got his favorite grip during the match and still wasn’t able to win. Then they did like two flips to make it hype before Asanoyama finally won. If you ask me, he looks young and seemed sad in his interview, like he knew he didn’t deserve the basho.

>If Hakuhou gets a win by henka, nobody bats an eye
Incorrect. He's a yok and also the greatest of all time; he's expected not to do it ever, they sperg out like maniacs every time he does something even mildly off.

You're not wrong about all the rest though.

Holy crap that match

youtu.be/20sEuxaiLT4
Asanoyama’s interview starts at 5:30. He doesn’t look happy or excite like a man who just won a big fucking tournament as a huge underdog. Also, my phone autocorrected Trump to arrimo. I think they really wanted a Japanese face getting a trophy from the American president for their national ego.

The YDC does. The fans rarely care.

Ah sorry, I thought you were talking about the YDC since the rest of your post referenced YDC decisions/reprimands like the Tamawashi kotenage issue.

Scenes when Hakuho goes 15-0 in Nagoya with his good arm tied behind his back
>go back to bulgaria
What was meant by this?

Aoiyama and Ichinojou are so intermittently strong that it makes me wonder if they're retarded. It always seems like one of them would have made yokozuna if there were any light behind their eyes. Ichinojou, for one, just seems too much like Akebono to not have Akebono-levels of victory. And I don't think it can all be chalked up to injury.

I think they know with their size that they're more prone to injury than others will be, so they try to end matches in the most efficient way possible and without putting up what they consider futile resistance if they start losing. When done well you have Ichinojo slap-downing everyone to a 14-1 jun-yusho. When done badly he mistimes it and puts himself out, or gets caught and just gives up. They could put in more effort but it would result in more injuries and a shortened career. So it basically depends on what you think is better: having a longer career at upper or mid maegashira with the occasional lower sanyaku appearance, or going for broken with ozeki and yokozuna runs but having your career cut short because of it.

Sumo association yet again shooting themselves in the foot with the Toch debacle. Had Toch rightfully won that match, they would've opened the Reiwa era with a three-way playoff to decide the title.

>Also, what does the end result of 7-8 means for Enho exactly? We're seeing him next time or was it not enough to bump him into regular outfit?
He'll go down in the ranks, but he'll probably be saved from demotion with how badly a lot of low maegashira did. There are at least four wrestlers who would get demoted before him, and there aren't enough promotion candidates from juryo to make that an issue. Unfortunately for Hakuho, Ishiura is likely to get demoted, which means his dream of doing his ring entering ceremony flanked by two top-division protegees will have to wait.

Takagenji and Takanofuji, the winners of Juryo and Makushita tournaments, are identical twins

>bribed Goeido to throw yesterday so that an ethnic Yamato Japanese would win the first Reiwa basho and be in all the papers with arrimo instead of Mongolian Kakuryu
Kakuryu lost two fights he shouldn't've, so there's that.

This.
He even seemed interested as far as to ask about bout details later on too.

>eagle
So predictable, but cool nonetheless.

lel

>a three-way playoff to decide the title
Now that would be something.

>Enho and Ishiura demotion
Shame. Didn't pay much attention to Ishiura, but Enho could put on some weight. He got handled too easily a few times.
This or he could get some more experience and become good with what he has, since he lost a few because of his own poor decisions rather than being too small.
Cheers.

>sonned

youtube.com/watch?v=gHmWLejKzVM

Apparently Enho has trouble gaining weight because he has trouble eating hot food, which is an issue since sumo wrestlers stuff themselves with soup all the time.

No, you witnessed a fucking fix.

Stay retarded, Bait-kun.

lmao, the look on Melania's face
>Am I being rused again, Donald?

>they try to end matches in the most efficient way possible and without putting up what they consider futile resistance if they start losing
This absolutely was extremely visible in Ichinojo up until some point last year, when his oyakata must have beat the living shit out of him for doing it instead of risking his health for wins. It's what earned him the epithet Snorlax.

Just another five years...

>Enho could git gud
You should put this in proportion, he's already one of the top 40 or so guys in sumo. Making it inside the curtain at all is a big fucking achievement.

On behalf of the USA, I'd like to apologize for the post of this giant faggot who's posting submissive beta cancer while claiming to be an "American". I can assure you that when it's time to cull the beta male cancer from the nation, this poster will be eliminated, and no longer able to spread such diseases on the net.

Is it autism?

I only comment on what I see, my man. He sure is one of the top guys, but his performance, even tho stunning, still lacked. If crappers like Aoiyama (but can I really be so hard on him?) or Kaisei can be high-ranks just because they're big a dynamic, aggressive rikishi like Enho should be up there too.
Much like, say, Kaiho back in the day, or (better example since apparently he was less reliant on henka, but I never seen him, unlike with Kaiho) Mainoumi.
Cheers.

>Is it autism?
Nah, some people are just sensitive to temperature. I am too, but I'm not the guy who needs to gorge on chanko twice a day.

>Kakuryu lost two fights he shouldn't've, so there's that.
I don't think there was a big old conspiracy from the very beginning. I think it started when they saw Kakuryu flounder. Then they jumped at the chance to steal a win from Tochinoshin. And then they asked Goeido to take a fall to make it certain. Hey it's just a theory but I think I'm not entirely crazy.

Unironically, its Trump

If there's one man who doesn't look out of place among sumos, its Trump

They didn't need to steal shit from Tochi. That bumbling ass hurt his knee again and was dropping bouts left and right. He'll likely never win a basho again and will most certainly never reach Yokozuna.

based and truepilled

I think you're missing the point man. This isn't about Tochinoshin being good or not, it's about how the sumo association rigged the tournament because of their racist bullshi. Tochinoshin clearly won the Asanoyama match, but it was stolen from him to make it certain that Asanoyama would win the tournament. Goeido (also light skinned an ethnically japanese) took the fall so Asanoyama would have the awesome record of 12-2 on day 14 so that only if Kakuryu won that same day, and then twice on day 15 would he have been able to take the tourney from Asanoyama. It's clear to me that the decisions were based on some retarded conception of Japanese cultural purity and superiority (aka racism)

Wasn't implying a conspiracy, just that Kakuryu choked this tournament.

I know you weren't implying a conspiracy. It's me who is implying that there was a conspiracy on the part of the sumo association, Asanoyama and Goeido to steal the tournament for Asanoyama. Admittedly, even I can tell that my theory is shaky, but that Goeido vs Asanoyama match really looks like a show match to me.

>It's clear to me that the decisions were based on some retarded conception of Japanese cultural purity and superiority
Sounds pretty based to me.

Attached: 1508672369319.png (645x773, 7K)

Why isn't anyone talking about Hakuho suffering a career ending injury that will result in rapid decline and forced retirement like Kisenosato?

Good, fuck Hakuho and the Mongolians. I want a Japanese Yokozuna. Abi is my favorite but Takakeisho actually has a chance at becoming Yokozuna.

It really does seem that the foreigner domination that started in the 90's with the Hawaiians is finally about to end. Hakuho and Kakuryu both seem to be on their last legs, and there are no serious foreigners in the upper division to pick up where they left off.

Good. I'm not even a Jap and I root for the Jap every time, unless it is Tochi against a god damn mongolian

Attached: 400lb man.jpg (1280x720, 130K)

That's because there's no serious anybody in the upper division right now, foreigner or not.

Hakuho missed the basho on purpose: he doesn't want his application for citizenship to be rejected, and he probably figured out before us that this particular tournament needed a Japanese winner

Bruh. He completely destroyed his bicep. It's practically the same injury Kisenosato had. That kind of shit don't heal without surgery.

>aka racism
And that's why Sumo isn't filled with Mongolians the same way EVERY western track team is filled with niggers.

Fuck off with your racist attack on those that preserve their culture. Foreigners have no right to play sports outside of their nation except for the grace of host nations that allow it to happen, like Japan.

OH NO NO NO

Attached: georgiabtfo.png (810x59, 8K)

Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." I doubt there was an actual serious conspiracy to rig the tournament just to have a Japanese winner, "first of the era" or not. They fucked up a call, Goeido stopped giving a shit after his kachi-koshi because he's Goeido, Kakuryu choked because he's Kakuryu, nothing more.

If they actually wanted to rig it then they'd give us that three-way playoff, imagine that level of hype and drama for the first Reiwa tournament.

I can totally see the NSK trying to pull strings to rig the first match of a new era for a Jap. They're not pussies about protecting their culture the way the Jews have the westerners.

Keeping foreigners out of your traditional sport is fine, but letting them fight and then treating them like shit and taking obvious wins away from them is fucking retarded.

I agree, however, the Japs apparently don't see it that way, as they've been fucking gaijin rikishi since there's been gaijin rikishi.

I miss this pizza face every basho.

Fuck that mongol savage.

>calling people racist because there aren't enough other races to your liking in a group isn't racist
Yea fuck off racist cunt. How dare you attack the Japanese people with your racist diatribe against their culture and tradition.

Start your own Sumo if you want a different version, and fuck off with your liberal arts communist identity politics trash.

Is Kakuryu literally the most irrelevant yokozuna ever? At least Kisenosato has the excuse of getting fucked by injuries. Kakuryu has been yokozuna for five years and may as well still be an ozeki.

23yo Shiraishi won Sandanme playoffs
18yo Tochikamiyama won Jonidan playoffs

told you guys to keep an eye on Shiraishi
he debuted at Sd100TD, so I wouldn't be surprised if they give him a Ms60TD before figuring out the adequate ranking

Last time that happened was Yutakayama (then Oyanagi) in 2016, and they bumped him all the way up to Ms58w (Makushita has 60 per side), which he also went 7-0 in.

anyway, Yutakayama got a Ms58w after a yusho at Sd100TD; landed at M16e after 7 tournaments; we'll see if Shiraishi can replicate that

yeah, I was searching while you posted, sorry

he's not that bad overall; he conceded 24 kinboshi tho

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinboshi#Kinboshi_conceded

wikipedia needs to be updated and also considers absences and fusenpai in calculating the % which don't make sense

He deserves some slack for competing at the same time as the GOAT as well

longest bout? (192.4s) Ichiyamamoto vs Akiseyama - Day 13

youtube.com/watch?v=Z7ULL_Y57Do

Definitely watch older bashos on youtube - there's plenty of archives.

Maybe he's playing in an era with less rigged matches?

>Tfw didn't even know there were Sumo threads on Yea Forums

Is this new? Looking forward to July lads, my man Ichinojo will be ready to take the cup.

They say that about Sleepynoshow every tournament and he never does.

Started his year, although we have some people that followed in the other generals as well as the old Yea Forums threads

I think they got D I, he's not streaming the lower divisions at the moment.

IKTF bro, and his fucking lightning fast tachiai.

there is no day 16

I'm relatively new too: I suppose there isn't a way to keep a general open between tournaments like /fs/ does; or is there some special day when they do announcements? like promotions and stuff, so I can come back around that date

>Yea Forums
Yea Forums is not a sport board, more like Yea Forums

/jp/ is a slower board, a general there could survive with a post per day, tho on Warosu archives I can find only 20 or so threads; it's also a cancer board, we should petition to have it renamed to Japanese Culture and quarantine the spam (again!) in a /2hu/ board

Obese-Bump is not a sport.

never come to /jp/ please you subhuman faggot

The tournaments always happen during the odd-numbered months, it's on a set schedule

I said "between tournaments"

oh well, see you guys in July

I mean, we could talk about jungyo and random day-to-day sumo shit.

ice stick is not a sport

no one in Canada cares about hookey anymore, everyone just cares about finally bringing basketball home

Isn't Hakuho as Japanese as literally possible, tho?

Sure, but he has to be there whenever Hakuho doesn't perform/show up. Like this time and yet he choked it.

The barbaric Ainu are more Japanese than Hakuho.

Delusional retard.

And if nips are ethnocentric and xenophobic, so be it, but there is still no evidence this basho that their justified bias translates into unjust decisions or that their mistakes (when they do them) are in fact premeditated and motivated by bias.

> Kakuryu was shit after day 2 compared with first days Kakury
> Tochinoshin lost to fucking Abi and Endo and yes, lightly touched outside when he fought Asanoyama, henka'd Kakuryu and finally lost to Takayasu even if he had a good enough position.
>Takayasu himself didn't show much this tournament either.
> Ichinojo was shit too, losing left and right until injury.
Who the fuck did you see win? Tochinoshin? Dumb retard.

Attached: touch.png (1280x720, 1.67M)

>light touch in a frame
Except no one can definitively agree with that assessment and the decision wasn't made by a panel of experts; it was made by one person. If the heel were a micrometer above the sand, it would still be above the sand. Can you determine such a thing from that video footage?

He snagged back-to-back yusho when Hakuho started missing tournaments and was pretty unlucky not to have been in a playoff this time around. He's not as bad as he's made out to be

How can we judge anything in sports if not by sight. If you can't see that micrometer of distance, then there is no distance. In the video you can clearly see that there isn't any distance and that one person was right.

You're not even trying to disguise your bias.

Everyone has bias, cunt.

Evidence clearly shows no distance
> BIAAAAAAAAS BIAAAAAAAAS
Go fuck yourself.

Oh, okay. You're not biased. Now post all the other video angles and provide a conclusive in-depth analysis derived exclusively from that evidence.

That's the angle I got. Upload video of the others if you have something that can change this conclusion.

You can't see any distance on the NHK highlights video of day 13 either which is from another angle, but I don't know how to dowload or copy it.

Oh, okay.
Just recently got back into it, so I still have some major gaps. What I meant is, I liked his performance up until halfway mark, or so, strong and decisive, but later he went down too easily, rigging or no.
Cheers.

Attached: enho-shohozan.webm (636x356, 2.97M)

He does tend to fade late to be fair

There's other angles that make it seem as if Tochinoshin's ankle didn't go out. Tochinoshin had also put Asanoyama on the ground. It was a blatant favoritism call by the judges and you can't argue anything based on the tape because they didn't even look at it.

Regardless I haven't seen you talk at all about how obviously the Goeido vs Asanoyama match was a show match. If Goeido had fought normally and beaten Asanoyama, then Kakuryu would have fought Asanoyama on day 15 and smoked the poor fool. No, they saw an opportunity, Goeido took a dive, and Asanoyama took pictures with Trump.

>You can't argue anything based on the tape because they didn't even look at it
By that logic, you also can't argue anything based on the broadcast angles that you watched, because they didn't watch that either. The decision to reverse was made by the one referee who had his face literally three feet from the heel. Unless you somehow know what he saw, you can't argue that it wasn't definitive from his perspective.

You're just wrapped up in your own conspiracy theory.

Why didn't the japanese envole real wrestling and grappling like the rest of the world? Greek homos mastered it thousands of years before sumo was even a twinkle in a fat man's eye.

Just go watch judo or whatever. Sumo just ain't that.

I've seen just 2. The one that I linked and the other one I've seen in the NHK (and you can see too here www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/sumo/tournament/201905/day13.html ) highlights. In both he touched. If there are others either post them or provide a link. Otherwise they don't exist.

>blatant favoritism
Bullshit. Yes, I can argue since there is no evidence to point towards favoritism.

> they didn't look at the tape
They spoke with the video room or whatever it is called and that judge saw it too.

> Goeido
Is this a joke or something? Goeido, the great kekozeki. Obviously he thrown the match.

I see it now. It was all for this purpose:
> the JSA made Tochinoshin go back to the point he touched outside through godless oriental voodoo sorcery
> then paid Goeido to be Goeido and also threatened Kakuryu to lose to Tochinoshin
Wow, who would have thought?

> whenever a nip wins anything it is all rigged because they racissssss

>Why didn't the japanese envole real wrestling and grappling
They did, it's called sumo. Weight categories are for faggots who whine about "fairness" because they're not good enough to succeed.

Ichinojo will be relegated to Maegashira and then kick Yokozuna butt for those sweet gold star pay days.

Maybe watching greco-roman wrestling was fun back in ancient times or so, but now is crap. Like any other sport that cut its roots with tradition and became a soulless boring piece of oversanitized and overregulated shit. If sumo would become the same, it will sink into obscurity.

>Weight categories are for....
....people that understand probability. Equal weight fighters with equal skill will result in the fighter with the greater mass winning more often than not. This makes for shitty fights. That's why they came up with weight classes.

>it will sink into obscurity.
Already there, bud. Literally nobody gives a shit about Sumo compared to other sports, and even other fighting sports.

So like I said, faggots who whine about "fairness" because they're not good enough.

No, you're thinking of women "athletes".

Male fighters don't give a fuck, it's the athletic commissions and the bookie's, not the fighters, that cried for weight divisions, and they did it because it's harder to rig a fight for gambling with weight classes than without.

I doubt greco-roman wrestling is more popular with tv/internet audience than Sumo.
Maybe boxing and k1 (if it's still around). But other than that I doubt any other surpases it.

Still weight classes make whatever sport has it into a sissy sport.

How many Olympic gold medals were won for Sumo compared to Greco-Roman wrestling. Exactly.

Blame gambling and unscrupulous promoters then, not the fighters or the game.

Did you guys see Trump's sumo trophy?

One possible major problem with the trophy:

Trump's US President Sumo Trophy will be used every year for possibly different sumo tournament champions since you can't predict the champion for every year.

The US President Trophy's Plaque lists the date of May 26, 2019. This means it would be awkward to use the same US President Sumo Trophy for the 2020 Winner and the years onward.

Had the date never been written, the US President Trophy could be used every year, no problem. All the other sumo trophies don't have dates on them so they could be used every year.

If someone told Trump about this problem, we could get a new US President Trophy with no Date on it, so the US President Trophy could be used every year without the awkward 2019 Date on it.

Looks like Abe or his staff didn't show Trump what the usual sumo trophies look like because in America, Trophies usually have the Day and Year Engraved on the Trophy Plaque but in Japan, big tournament trophies get reused every year so Dates are left out.

Attached: ConsidertheFollowing.jpg (600x600, 32K)

Depends on what it actually says on the plaque. If it's just the date, use it as the date on which the US President Sumo Trophy was established and be done with it.

Also, I was meaning to ask about it. Them trophies looked mighty big and bulky (the main one weight something like 50 kilos innit) and it would be wasteful to hand them out every two months, I'd think. Nice to hear those are transitive (or whatever the right term would be).
Cheerio.

The thought of using that trophy again never occurred to me. I would think it was intended as a one time gift to the Yusho winner from potus and the people. We do love us all kinds of rasslin' and fightin'.

What the plaque says:

Attached: D7dkMO3X4AUa0hC.jpg (1200x900, 199K)

ice stick players, like all elite athletes, have their bodies in peak physical condition.
sumo is the opposite

Yes, the Prime Minister's Sumo Cup gets reused every year.

It would be expensive and uneconomical to create this large expensive sumo cup every year for the sumo grand champion.

Just look how large and heavy the thing is.

Could still argue that it is the establishment date.

Chairs mate!

After all that effort...

He got smashed in his first makanucci basho pretty hard. He didn't even go up against any Sanyaku, and probably never will unless Hakuho can pull some miracle in training / technique with him.

I respect the hell out of sumo as a sport. I would watch it all the time if they only wore shorts... But I draw the line at thongs and topknots.

lol okay retard

Olympics are shit. All the ruined sports mixed together.

> Blame gambling and unscrupulous promoters then, not the fighters or the game.
Why not. The fighters take part in a sissy game, And it doesn't matter if the game had potential, if it's a sissy game now, then it sucks.

Plus, the ones that have openweight are in the same events with the weight class fights. It's lame to sit through the soifest to get into ONE openweight rigged fight arranged by the promoters. It's a fucking joke. Also you'd see some fighter that you like, you'd need to wait a long time to see him again. In Sumo you now have six tournaments per year ffs. And if you sit out you lose rank or even drop into the second division. Even yokozuna who can't drop in rank are expected to retire if they miss too many or put too much of a poor performance.

he's wildly popular because he and abe get along really well and it validates Japan's isolationism. Imagine how much better America would be if they hadn't spent the past 20 or 30 years babysitting the most useless brown people central america has to offer. Japan is literally a microcosm of that.

Can't argue with that.

Not letting 3rd world shitbags flood your nation isn't being "isolationist", btw.

>wrestling was voted to be removed
...and Sumo was NEVER approved in the first place....because nobody gives a fuck about it outside of Japan.

Because it does not have a women's category and never will, which makes it ineligible for your meme competition.

>does not have a women's category
Neither did most other sports until late in the last century, because nobody gives a fuck about womens sports outside of a few niche areas, like gymnastics. Lack of chicks in Sumo wouldn't stop the committee from creating their own female division for Olympic Sumo.

The japs won't allow it, and they don't want it in the Olympics anyway.

>japs won't allow it
If the committee aproves it, not much japs can do about it as it's not like they've got the final say on who can and can't do stand up grappling / fighting. It wouldn't be done like Osumo in Japan anyway, as they raised doyho and clay would get scrapped for mats and shit.

USA sumo is already trying, but they won't get anywhere because all of their rikishi except the two retired pros suck ass.

>all of their rikishi except the two retired pros suck ass.
That's exactly how a pro league gets started.

Regardless, isn't there already a pretty well established amateur Sumo community in Asia? I figure those would be the ones pushing for Olympic approval.

I doubt it, most of them have no desire to compete and if they did they would try to go actual pro.

*no desire to compete professionally
