If Vidic had been picking up Messi in place of Rio then they never score that goal, Vidic was always a class above Rio in terms of actual defending, man marking and challenging for the ball.
Rio got caught ballwatching like an errant schoolboy and let the worlds shortest #9 get a completely free run in behind him and win a free header on top of the penalty spot.
Also, Van De Sar got caught embarrassingly flat footed at the same time.
I can’t believe that goal each time I watch it, Rio just fucking ignores the one Barcelona player anywhere near him, ignores the space in behind himself and literally does nothing but stare at Xavi who’s got several other Man U players in front of him.
