that doesn't work because france has a ton of good players.
instead imagine an alternate EPL where you invite teams from all of scandinavia, ireland and the rest of great britain, and the baltics; they load up on as many english players as they can get since they're largely superior to their domestic product but they can now afford them due to increased TV revenues; then they run their teams better than yours and win the title.

Firstly, England invented hockey (or field hockey) and Underwater Hockey. That leaves Ice Hockey, which was played by British soldiers in Canada because the alternative wasn't possible.

So even if you use the 'Colonial Canada isn't British' excuse, you're beaten elsewhere. So, either way, Britain invented it, even using the location of the creation (Montreal) as the place, as it was played by British soldiers and Canada wasn't a Dominion until later on.
