At least for football, any poor kid around the world can play and does because all you need is a ball (Brazil favelas, Africa, etc.) but why isn't it the same in more developed countries? You mentioned austerity cuts in Britain. I know in America to play youth "soccer" at a higher level parents have to pay like crazy to be on better teams.

Different strokes. Kids in first worlds countries need to be motivated to play sports, because they could just as well go play Fortnite and watch Youtube videos, or whatever else. Poor kids in Brazil play futbol to escape their miserable lives. In South America, foundations who look to remove kids from the streets or free them from child labor do so by building football clubs, so kids have someplace to go, socialize, be supervised and have something to eat.

Because of stuff like this. Kids don't want to play football anymore, they want to be inside playing Fortnite, Call of Duty and FIFA. A poster in this thread mentioned the weather being too shit to play sometimes. 10+ years ago, kids would still play football in the rain, but now they can't be arsed because they can stay inside and play Xbox until the odd few days when the weather is nice and their Mum's kick them out for the day.

The ones that really play football now are from poor london suburbs and have families that can't afford to have their kids in all day, sucking the the electricity and buying them the latest vidya every month. AKA, black kids with single Mums. I'm not pinpointing it down to race, but we aren't going to get players like Scholes or Gerrard as much anymore.
