Disney(ESPN) does not own the rights for broadcasting hockey. They bid for it when the license expired but the NHL declined them and went with NBC(Comcast)which is a direct competitor. They have a vested interest in not promoting competing products.

They talk about what gets them views. Lebron gets more total views than talking about a whole NBA team which is actually in the playoffs. It sucks, but since the MLB is regional in its appeal, they won't talk about it.
It may be helping the NBA, but to me it seems like people don't even watch the games, just highlights on youtube. If they did, they'd complain about how many fucking bullshit fouls get called. Don't even get me started on Harden fucking jumping into defenders to get to the line.

thats because theres no point to watching full NBA games. 100+ baskets a game so they all mean nothing until the final 2 minutes to see which ones trade off the most.
