Get discovered late into your career

>get discovered late into your career

how does this happen?

because liverpool buy shit players

one season wonder

he's a centre back. the few in that position that are already elite as teenagers are an exceptional few, most have their best years 25-32 or something like that

Big clubs were already scouting him back in his Celtic days, it's nice he went to a club he actually got playing time in

because he's actually shit

Defenders tend to have a longer career at top level.

Defenders have an exponential level curve.

Seethe

>Playing at Groningen: Hmm this guy looks decent. Moves to Celtic
>Playing at Celtic: Hmm this guys looks decent. Moves to Southampton.
>Playing at Southampton: Hmm this guy looks decent. Moves to Liverpool.
>Playing at Liverpool

Seems like a pretty natural progression to me. He was never going to go to a top club straight away, people don't want to take the risk.

Playing safe I guess? Many "Wonder Kid" ruined because they fell for the go to the bigger club meme

Ask Kante

Because defenders are also bought for leadership/experience reasons and they don't have to rely on speed/athleticism as much as attacking players other than vertically.

retard

This used to be the normal way. Now marketing products like Vinicius get bought at 17 by Real Madrid for 50 million.

chatting chit

thats exactly it he's not great he's decent

People tend to not rate you when you're not from one of the 3 big clubs

You know it's possible for players to improve over time right

no it's not

Literally name a better defender in the world maybe Ramos or Thiago Silva so how is being in the top 5 in the world mean your shit

it usually feels like new world class defenders get discovered relatively late into their career because the previous generation of defenders take a pretty long time to die out. if you're young and black and you run fast and you can do step overs, you are immediately hailed as the next big thing but it just seems to take a while for people to catch onto defenders the same way

>all the three of barca's cb's
>both real's cb's plus militao
>hernnadiz and godin at atlitico
>most of the defenders that play in seria a in the top 4 teams are underrated
all these people are better then him or equal

thats not how at works there is tons of scouts out there that can spot top talents if you're not good enough you get picked

de Ligt

I'm willing to argue you could get 80% of guys up to league level with the right approach from a very young age. Talent is incredibly overrated save for one in a billion aliens like Messi.

>real cb
>concede 4 at home vs teenagers and boomer Tadic
>anywhere near good

>van dijk
>concede 6 against messi-less barca and fail to mark bale resulting in the most humiliating cl final goal ever
>real cb
>share 2 wc's and 4 cl's between them

>when Karius fucks up it's van Dijk's fault
>when Rolando does well it's thanks to Ramos
Yeah nah

hes not a pacey fella from zambia

>Talent is incredibly overrated
>spot the workaholic
hard work will literally never top talent

Who cares honestly, he does the job done for now and is easily a top billion CB

how is van dijk failing to mark bale is karuis fault ?

>Playing at Liverpool
Tough break. He’ll never win a title

You only really need 3-4 players with talent, the rest canbe workhorses

not even top trillion imo

CBs have their best years late in their careers. Spotting who will be world class is hard, and it's a position that usually takes a lot of time to master. Ramos started his career at RB. Vidic came to United at 25 as a nobody from the Serbian league.

there is planty of young cb's. cope harder

ONE NEIL LENNON

>Groningen
>Celtic
>pretty natural progression
Not for a Dutch player, he "skipped" the big 3 here because nobody thought he was good enough. You never skip the big 3 and become good.
tl;dr, Van Dijk isn't good

>hard work will literally never top talent
Is that your excuse for why you're a complete failure?

how can i be a failure when im talented ? there is literally limitless opportunities for me

>Ramos
>Getting exposed in every game, being forgiven for the odd goal, and getting a red card every other game

Ramos is one of the biggest lies in football in the last decade. His ego is as big as Ronaldo's, he has his agent spreading rumors every other year to get a new contract (hilarious how Milan was going to sign him every summer according to his friends in the media), he is a liability, an awful captain and only the protection from the media keeps his profile as a top CB. The only people that think he is still at his best are the ones watching highlights in youtube

He's been well known since his Celtic days it's just no big club was quite willing to take a risk on him because he played in Scotland

se tenia que decir y se dijo desu

>cope

>start at Groningen
>finally reachs *top 3* club

Talent = matching physical traits + correctly functioning brain chemistry.

Messi is seen as an 'exceptional' talent because his tiny legs allow him to have more contact with the ball in the same time span a larger player has or a defender has to react. This is why his dribbles are sick and he can fire volleys so quickly. Hazard has similar qualities but take note that the exact body dimensions favor Messi more. Messi is also high on the autism spectrum + relatively white. Which means he has a high football IQ and he can tunnel vision on the mundane. Using that weaponized autism. It's that combination of these three factors that people define as 'talent'. But really it just comes down to how well your traits match the occupancy you perform, be it sports or music or whatever. Most people can be considered a talent at something if they keep looking long enough. While being absolute horse shit in others. It's also why picking your passion doesn't always guarantee you'll be good at it. Some people love football but are absolutely not made for it. The idea that talent is this weird magical thing that can't be grasped is plain retarded.

Of course there is. And? Doesn't change the fact that most who turn out to be world class hit their stride later than strikers and wingers, and they have longer careers on average. The fact that young and even great young CBs exist doesn't change this.

You don't let the people chatting shit bother you and then you start banging

literally most the defenders in history shined from an early age. he's mediocre at best. positional play and working within a high press system gives him an advantage

This no flag is so utterly obsessed kekking hell
