Challenge Cup Semi Finals
Saturday
>La Rochelle vs Sale
Stade Marcel Deflandre, La Rochelle 17:30 IST
Neither team looks amazing but the rub is definitely home advantage. Sale haven't impressed away all season while La Rochelle have only lost at home this season to Clermont and Bristol(the latter during a hurricane). Sale's only hope is that La Rochelle are still in contention for the Top14 playoffs and they'll play conservatively to protect. La Rochelle by 7.

>Clermont vs Harlequins
Stade Marcel-Michelin, 20:00 IST
Is this even a competition? Clermont are going to win the challenge cup. Quins probably won't get fucked up as bad as Northampton but they'd have to play better than they have all season to be in with a chance. Clermont by 20.

Champions Cup Semi Finals
Saturday
>Saracens vs Munster
Ricoh Arena, Coventry 15:00 IST
With the teams out I'm finding seeing a really close game with Munster looking worse for injuries. Bleyendaal is doing fine in the place of Carbery but no Earls is a serious blow. Sweetnam is fine but he's just not comparable. At least they have their strongest centre pairing and their forwards are all up to scratch. This will be a really physical game with Munster's back 3 having a lot of work to do against Maitland and Williams when the ball gets wide. Heart says Munster by 1. Brain says Saracens by 4.

Sunday
>Leinster vs Toulouse
Lansdowne Road, Dublin 15:15 IST
Both sides near full strength. Toulouse potentially with the edge of game time while most of Leinster's squad haven't played much or at all since the end of the 6 Nations. All the same it seems clear that Leinster haven't been full committing to the last few rounds of the Pro14 and will hit this game with similar intensity to what they showed against Ulster. For Toulouse it all comes down to whether Dupont can manage at 10. Heart says Leinster by 2. Brain says Toulouse by 10.

Could have started Fardy, moved Ruddock to 7 and had O' Brien on the bench.

Yeah that wouldn't be too bad actually. Have to ope that O'Brien doesn't shit the bed, i suppose.

I live in hope of an all Ireland CC final.

>tfw no big smelly prop gf

Is SOB off to London Irish before or after the World Cup?

Im worried he'll be on the plane as Schmidt is too loyal to players who are out of form or well past it

Muscular thread.

Yesterday would have been a fantastic day of upsets if the Sunwolves had held on. Still, considering the best games are probably yet to come I have to say that the state of Super Rugby is pretty darn good right now. It's hard to imagine people using the age old complaint of the game being too start-stop. I think rugby is the most entertaining spectator sport its ever been by a long shot.

He’s technically done with Leinster by the end of this season, but Schmidt will almost assuredly bring him along.

That ball boy is huge.

I keep hoping FitzPatrick will comment on it when he's giving him the sweat towel but I suppose that'd get him sacked.

Pack him in the scrum. It might actually move.

His foot was on the line, doesnt that mean hes in the 22?

Comeback?

Watch them choke and lose it in the last 7 mins. Foley will miss another clutch kick.

For me, its anti-imperialistic communism

It's like watching a different sport to last game.

TWO DADS

Seriously, that ball boy has to be at least 200kg. Even more ironic is the Swisse shirt he’s wearing. Bad advertising for them, or what?

Would probably fuck over any remaining hopes we have for the WC. Ireland play like shit when Leinster and Munster are at each oter's throats. All the same I'd love to see it.

If ireland crash out in the QF again I will probably kill myself

god what a shitshow I wish I had fapped instead of watching that horseshit

Cheers lad.

Absolutely hilarious - team is already in the change rooms when the ref decides to check for a high tackle and forced them back out.

Bleyendaal has a head the size of a fucking orange

Following on from this - the high tackle has led to a yellow card and a penalty try. Astonishing turnaround after the game had already been stopped.

Typical NH match. Waiting for decision by kick to H.

>Coventry stadium half empty

Munster’s defence is fucking brutal.

Thought it was their biggest strength?

That’s what I mean yeah. Sorry, I can see why it sounds like I’m saying it’s bad. But it’s been so dominant this game.

Farrell is defending like a fucking monster, they seem to be looking more and more comfortable with Sarries attack as the game went on

Really good reads on what Sarries are trying in the 22. Attack needs to shape up though.

He's from Dublin (of course)

Here's another Dublin faggot

Attached: bearded you say.png (585x320, 54K)

I wonder what Munster's excuses will be this time?

They're a better side than they were 2 years ago when they were outclassed by Saracens, at least they were more competitive today and they are a good team but they're still a limited side. Big difference relying on the pack to dominate poorer Pro14 teams to when there is parity between the forwards and they run out of ideas very quickly when they don't.

They still seem happy to "front up" and frustrate opponents, live off their mistakes while doing little with ball in hand. Carbery seems to be the only player capable of going off script and creating anything in their backline, Mathewson too I guess.

>Toner back
>Lowe back
>Henshaw back

Just in fucking time, lets hope Toulouse playing their 9 at 10 backfires

They just need more South Africans and Leinster cast-offs. Then they can do it.

I'm glad they decided to play Lowe. He's worth at least 2 tries a game in scoring one and creating another.

They have no attack, no team deserves to win shit by defending they're way to it

Attached: the hairline of a winner.png (819x283, 149K)

That and he's Mr Motivator, never stops talking and patting lads on the back and giving encouragement to them

He's been left out of way too many games this year especially when the Internationals were off in camp

Was caught by JGP being the only decent Scrumhalf available and Fardy being de facto captain.

Bet that little Welsh youtube faggot is cutting scars on his legs after Based Billy getting man of the match, stopped watching his vids a while back, think i might have to watch his next one to enjoy his liberal tantrum and tears

Attached: 1415711205271.jpg (900x900, 72K)

Attached: twsgst.png (899x308, 194K)

His videos were always shite

He has one about Murray being our best player and then we go and beat an England looking for the most consecutive wins record and New Zealand without him

No idea why everyone seems to lap up his simplistic views and analysis

Because rugby's fanbase is literally red dit. There, I said it. Outside of /rug/, I hate pretty much everyone who likes this sport.

r/rugbyunion is the most red dit board on all of reddit. Pure cancer.

Bit sad if the only people you can enjoy this sport with are in this thread, lad.

I watch games with my friends. Me and a gang of three lads have season tickets, but most people I'm friends with prefer GAA or soccer.

>Munster lad running onto the pitch to call Vunipola a twat
Don’t think I’ll ever be that drunk

>r/rugbyunion is the most red dit board on all of reddit. Pure cancer.

Reddit is one big psyop website, all about mind control and manipulation, anyone with an alternative view gets shutdown by "downvotes" or the mods, probably the reason why im banned from r/rugbyunion for trying to educate them and telling them how the real world works

>/pol/tato has a reddit account

Why was he wearing slippers?

Attached: think big.png (979x832, 723K)

I had to set one up to get into to a private rugby stream account, had no choice

Because that man wanted everyone to know, without a shadow of a doubt, that he is Limerick.

Meanwhile it’s 17 all between La Rochelle and Sale at half time. Yellow card and penalty try apiece.

>"from" limerick? no, you fool
>i AM limerick!

>mentally challenged cup

It’s actually an entertaining game so far.

If you play professional rugby you have to not be a cunt and set a good example.

If you can go around telling gay people they will burn in hell and rugby heads deem that acceptable, what sort of example does that set for club teams or local players? Will gay lads have to listen to cunts being homophobic and accept it?

I mostly find it laughable, because the very basic rule of Christianity is "love one another". If they believed anything, they wouldn't shit on other people and hate them. Also, if they want to be consistent, why aren't all his tattooed teammates being told they'll burn in hell? It's just cherry picking, being a homophobe and hiding behind religion to do it.

Fuck that guy.

Careful now, /pol/tato will take a break from upvoting his favourite deep-fried memes on reddit to tell you that you’re an EU plant, here to stop him from staying off his meds.

La Rochelle won. Last few minutes were a shitshow. LR missed an easy kick to put them beyond sale with 2 minutes on the clock. Sale made it to the LR 22 but lost the ball out to touch from a loose pass. But the tmo caught a LR player stomping on a Sale player so the got a penalty, only for play to have to stop again because the ensuing ruck included about 20 players. LR got a penalty off the ensuing scrum and kicked it out.

Is there a game on lads?

Clermont are plying Quins in the Challenge Cup. So far Clermont are looking dominant.

That Penaud guy, he's like a French Stockdale, Leinster could do with him on the right wing

He’s no Jordan Larmour. Might be useful for the As I suppose.

>Clermont folding with 10 to go. Quins might be in with a shout here.

If you have the time, go watch the meltdown that was their management of the end of the game against Toulouse last week. They're getting back to their Chokemont form more sooner than expected.
Can't say I'm too excited with the finale against La Rochelle or the next couple of games for that matter.

Clermont held on, but they nearly botched a 24 point lead.

That said, Clermont can accomplish a pretty cool feat if they win the final game : Win a final game (because of Clermont's history with Championship game) plus being unbeaten all season long in the European scene (second div. that is) and scoring 30 pts in the pool stage out of the 30.
However, I can't realy say if someone did it before on the real European Cup or in the irrelevant third one (European Shield) back a decade ago (or if that one counts, period).

>le sexton is shit
>le sexton's tantrums are ruining Ireland
>le etc.

It was only because of Sexton we won a double and had such a good season last year at test level. It was also his demanding attitude that was credited with raising standards and what drove us on.
When Sexton plays well, we play well and conversely when he plays bad we're shite. He'll prove tomorrow why he's the best Irish player currently playing.

Posting so no one can say it was le 20/20 hindsight.

I really hope you're right.

Poor fella will have dementia in a few years with all the concussions he's had. I agree, a team's fortunes can be decided based on whether good Jonny or bad Jonny turns up.

for me its getting a single win point for the entire round

>It was also his demanding attitude that was credited with raising standards and what drove us on

True, but you can see something in him cracked in that Munster/Leinster game at Thomand at the end of December, im sure some of the Munster lads were doing stuff to wreck his head but it worked, he went off the deep end and a few of the other Leinster lads followed his example resulting in a red card (should of been 2) and a few yellows for Leinster

Since then the whole fucking house of cards came down in both International and Provincial level for him, ever since he won player of the year he hasn't been able to deal with it

Something similar happened after we beat New Zealand in Chicago, we thought we were the best in the world and went into 2017 with our head up our arse and got beat by the Scots in the first 6 Nations game that year, it took us the best part of a year to pull it back out and get our shit together and thats what im worried about going into the WC this year

Steve Hanson was talking about it how its a completely different level getting to the top and staying there, i reckon we're still a few years away from the level

What if Foulau go to AFL? Would that work. It's difficult for me to believe he'll stay untouchable forever. All he has to do is to say something along the lines of "I wasn't at my most right", reach a compromise with his new employer that he'll continue to practice his religion but low-key and avoid dragging his employer's name into it. Voila, business as usual.

how fresh are you?

also cringe at how fucking stupid you are on all of those points

I thought even without the homophobic posts AFL don't want him? As in he just wasn't good enough for AFL?

>As in he just wasn't good enough for AFL?
No he wasn't. Absolutely no chance they take him back, GWS used him as a marketable player because they were a new franchise team in Western Sydney and he was high profile, but he was awful and now they're actually doing well so there's reason to have him even aside from all this drama

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

You have to be able to kick to play AFL.

Frogbros what will happen if no French nationality coach wants to coach your national team? Will Laporte just not appoint a coach at all?

>Seriously who would take him

Would love it if Leinster went after him as Rob Kearney is old as shit and is on his way to France by the sound of it so we need a fullback, but Ireland is still a liberal cess pool right now and Izzy would probably end up having some liberal nut job storm the pitch naked with a fag rainbow flag as a cape while wearing a cock ring and proceeding to chase Folau around the pitch chucking dildos at him

I take it you're talking about Sarries/Munster game? That was at Wasps ground, but still the attendance was 16k, 10k of that being Munster fans

>Leinster need a fullback
Should really commit to Larmour and specialise him into the role. Fuck picking up TRC’s 4th best fullback.

I just dont see full back in Larmour, he's great in attack against tier 2/unorganised defences but not great at collecting high ball.

At best he's Leinsters version of Keith Earls and the wing is really the only place for him

I reckon he just needs time in the position. Has a had a few good games there against good teams. The January Toulouse game comes to mind. Needs to work on his defensive game but that's something you'd say of a lot of young players.

Seriously considering dawn service tomorrow lads.

I thought he had his best game that I'd seem from him on Sunday. Now admittedly I was drunk but I thought he was very mature, didn't try any of his silly stopping and starting or lateral running, give up advantage on the gainline or be physically dominated, was solid defensively and protected the ball well in contact.

It's not glamourous but they're the things you need to be able to do to be a viable test level winger, before any innate ability or talent.

think this may be the start of false teams being named in order to trick the opponent

He made great ground off of contact too, rather than pissing about in open space. The 5 or so meters he made leading up to Fardy's 2nd was honestly shocking for a back 3 to manage.

I'd expect nothing less from those bottom feeders.

Goodbye tired old tread. I shan't miss you.

Annoying, but not as annoying as the weirdly paternal sense of “ownership” that Munster fans, and to a lesser extent Leinster, seem to have for >us.

Huh. Ulster don't have that?

I know a few catholics from Ulster and it’s generally accepted that they’ll either root for Connacht or Leinster. Might be changing now, but that’s certainly how it has been in the past.

I thought it was common knowledge a decent few Ulster Catholics supported Munster, as did a decent few Connacht people.

Maybe back when Munster were the most successful Irish province that was the case, but it has not been my experience.

great post
they’re starting to put some consistency together, good make a run at the finals

>unless Treviso and Edinburgh lose their games, no Welsh club will qualify for the Pro14 playoffs
Something has to change, right? The Welsh national team won the fucking grand slam but they can’t even manage 3rd in a conference?

Laporte has always the final say so chances are he would place a crony of his anyway. He wants to be reelected and the amateur clubs basically got him elected. And the amateur scene don't want a foreigner HC, as seen as of late. Simple as.

He'll always find someone, whenever his tank of friends will dry out (Jo Maso can go back at 74 yo, who fucking knows), it's still not a condition of him to resign as the FFR prez. Hell, Serge Simon could be a candidate for both position of prez or HC, even his fat piece of shit friend working at RMC would do the job. I guess that Fabien Pelous would be an option too.

But officially, it's Galthié's turn (with Laurent Labit, from RM92, as the backs coach and either Ibanez or Servat for the pack plus Shaun Edwards for the defence) after the RWC, disregard of the results because we know there's a push for him and that Brunel is essentially out (and was nothing more than a transitional HC for that matter). It can't be worse than Brunel's current tenure.

So, until there's a major shift and a TRUE re-assessment in the entirety of the French rugby scene (kek at the later), there will be no foreigner HC leading the French NT under Laporte. Not sure if that still won't be the case under his successor.

Premiership' bankrupcy when?

Attached: Premiership.png (641x587, 30K)

I see, so these amateur clubs are like "it doesn't matter how shit the guy you appoint is, what's more important is that he's born and bred French and not a filthy étranger".

>Shaun Edwards
I thought he's staying with Wales?

>It can't be worse than Brunel's current tenure.
I dunno about that. These last 3 French coaches have all been worse than their predecessors. Next thing you know you could be staring at yet another 6N wooden spoon.

The worse part is, it's not like any of those coaches did horribly at club level. It's as if just being appointed as France's head coach is guaranteed to drag your stock down to rock bottom because you were doomed to fail the moment you accepted. It's likely only a matter of time before any potential candidates start seeing the job as cursed and preemptively ruling themselves out of contention.

>So, until there's a major shift and a TRUE re-assessment in the entirety of the French rugby scene (kek at the later)
Well, they could do an England in 2023. England hired their first foreign coach right after that so France allowing the same is hardly far-fetched, even if Laporte stays.

Based Exeter Chiefs

Given the allegations that Saracens are breaking the salary cap by setting players up with shell companies, I wonder how accurate their financial report actually is.

This is several weeks old, but points out how European clubs are already at their limit paying for talent. Despite that, there are only 2-3 Australians in Europe with a half-decent chance of making the Wallabies. As I've said repeatedly, the Wallabies are paid very well and the alleged player exodus is a myth (referring only to Australia).

>I see, so these amateur clubs are like "it doesn't matter how shit the guy you appoint is, what's more important is that he's born and bred French and not a filthy étranger".
Pretty much

As for Shaun Edwards, multiple french sports sites and more specialized in rugby (L'Equipe amongst others - even rugbypass has an article on that subject : rugbypass.com/news/another-curveball-thrown-in-the-saga-of-shaun-edwards-future-beyond-2019-reports/) do report him as a potential recruit for the next staff these last 2 days. So, it can be real although the use of conditional.

>Pretty much
Its meant to be the other way around

>Appoint a foreign coach (If you have to)
>Only allow actual people of your own Ethnicity to play for your National Side

Theres France's problem right there, they need to get rid of French born Africans as they are not French and add to the Cultural Imbalance of the team, even if players like Teddy Thomas and Bastardro are great players on their day, Only fill your National Side with you own

>but they can’t even manage 3rd in a conference?

what the hell happened here

Are the Wages accurate?
thought the premiership had a salary cap of 7 million + 2 marque players.

Toulon player takes the lineout on their own 5 quickly, with the other team basically in position. Ashton panics and tries to kick clearance but shanks it.

I think it's perfectly fair. "We" hadn't won anything outright before and we'd been around for over 130 years. Leinster were definite favorites for the final. Compare the players head to head, position by position. The only position where Connacht were better on paper was second row, but they outplayed them everywhere.

On balance, we definitely weren't as big an outsider as Leicester but given it happened so close together, in the same year as so many other upsets, it's only natural for people to make that connection.

rugbypass.com/news/china-asked-us-if-fiji-could-supply-about-200-coaches-which-was-impossible-for-us

>Fiji have turned down a request for around 200 sevens coaches to help develop the sport in China
>the request had been impossible for the reigning Olympic Sevens champions to grant as Fiji “had only three coaches who were accredited with level three qualifications”

Chinese rugby dominance when?

Really? I knew a few lads from Donegal in college and even though they were mainly into Gaelic football, they were big Ulster fans. They were always chatting shit when Ulster beat Connacht and going on about how much they loved Tommy Bowe (who must be the only international player ever from the border counties).

It surprised me, because I'd assumed Ulster would be seen as a Protestant team. They supposedly had very little underage presence outside the posh proddy schools and absolutely nothing in the three Ulster counties in the Republic until recently. They've plenty of Catholics alright, given their team is mostly lads from Leinster at this stage, but they've never really had any Ulster Catholics, have they?

Literally never. They've been trying the same shit with football for years and have gotten nowhere.

literally never, they have been throwing money at their football system for years with massive academies and shit and still suck

Fucking hell. Thought the flags had broken for a second.

hivemind in full effect

scary stuff lads

hold on to your seats /rug/

Seriously though. China takes an industrial approach to team sports that just doesn't work. It's the same approach they take to all Olympic sports. And that's fine for routine performance sports or individual performance sports, but falls apart when you apply it to a game where teams need to be dynamic and think for themselves.
1 or 2 years down the line they'll get a team into the 7s world series via Hong Kong and then they'll get drubbed in every round, get booted out and we'll hear nothing about Chinese rugby until right before the next Olympic games.

Do we have a bru fro the world cup?
