Maracanaço
Nah m8, at least Brazil made it to the finals.
This and it's not even close
Can I get a quick rundown?
>name a bigger failure in sports history
Patriots going 18-1
Yankees blowing a 3-0 ALCS series lead
Warriors blowing a 3-1 Finals lead
Nobody gives a shit about hockey.
It's almost as if hockey is a sport that requires zero physical prowess or skill. Approximately 0.001% of kids grow up playing hockey because it requires thousands of dollars of equipment and access to an ice skating rink. The NHL hasn't had a transcendant player since Wayne Gretzky. It's an entire league of literal whos. I haven't watched a baseball game in over a decade, but I can still name dozens of active players off the top of my head. Shit, I've never followed soccer in my life, but I could probably name at least 5 active soccer stars. But hockey? Who the fuck knows.
A team of LITERAL high school kids beat the Soviet super team in the Olympics. That's how talentless the sport is. Imagine a team of high schoolers playing the NBA dream team, they'd lose 500-0.
Why do you admit you don't know anything about hockey and then opine on it in the same post?
>someone actually took the time to write this out
Yikes.
I like to think these are seething bait posts from Blots """fans""" sunbelt fans are superficial at best so it makes sense.
7-1
this. hockey is the ultimate brainlet sport
This isn't surprising at all
Hockey is so random, the bookies odds for that to happen were nothing special
you shouldn't be allowed to post here
Columbus Sweeping Tampa? I actually highly doubt that.
That's the Mineirazo m8. Pretty close, but Brazil at least made it to the semis before that shitshow.
Tampa couldn't even win a single fucking game in the Round of 16.

This shit
> 1950 football world cup in Brazil
> game between Brazil and Uruguay decides the title (technically not a final but in practice)
> Brazil has been sweeping the floor with all teams and everyone is expecting them to btfo Uruguay at the world's biggest stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Maracanã
> the stadium has only been finished recently and has not been painted on purpose, it shall be painted with the colours of the 1950 world cup winner (which will totally be Brazilian white)
> Brazil scores, the public goes mad, they're winning this at home, the party may start, 1-0
> but then Uruguay scores, 1-1
> and then Uruguay scores again, 1-2
> the stadium goes mute
> ... and the game ends
> Uruguay has won the world cup against this hyped up Brazil
> FIFA president Jules Rimet hadn't even rehearsed the trophy ceremony in the event of a Uruguayan victory because it was so fucking obvious that the title would go to Brazil
> Brazilians try to an hero by jumping from the stadium roof
> a wave of suicides happens across Brazil
> Brazilians are so upset that diss the white shirt believing it has jinxed them, and replace it with the now iconic canarinha
> Brazilian goalie is ostracised by his country for the rest of his life, authorities even ban him from visiting the national team in a warmup match vs Uruguay over 40 years later, fearing he'll jinx them too
> the icing on the cake is that Maracanã is painted sky blue, i.e. with the colours of 1950 champion Uruguay, reminding Rio residents of that upset to the present day
Nothing in the world of sports can compare to that. No 18-1, no 7-1, no miracle on ice, no nothing, past, present or future. Uruguay scorer Ghiggia would later say: "Only three people have silenced Maracanã - the Pope, Frank Sinatra and myself"
Why do people keep making these types of threads? it is always the same format. Today's sport is hockey, so hockey fans will say no. Then fans of other sports will say yes and their sport has had a way bigger upset and blogpost about how they don't like hockey as if anyone gives a shit. It is no different than 7-1, 18-1 and the Warriors one, always the same thread.
>be the greatest divegrass team of all time
>one game away from the all time undefeated record
>get dicked by the fucking USA
>JUST
thankfully my enjoyment of hockey isn't determined by the amount of star players people can remember or how many people care about it. what a hilarious actual customer like way of thinking.
Except only retards will argue against 18-1. Its clearly the biggest deal.
pressure of the playoffs. how many of those guys had playoff experience
You shouldn't be allowed in this country.
I don't think so. For a massive favourite, falling at the first major hurdle is nowhere as bad as breezing through all the previous hurdles and falling at the final one, against a team that barely managed to scrape their way through. Even 18-1 was bigger than the example in the OP.
>1950
>be World Cup hosts
>insist on the final four be a group stage instead of semi-final + final
>breeze through to the final four and thrash your first two opponents
>your last opponent drew one match and barely scraped a win in the other, so all you need to win this WC is a draw
>it's also the same team you thrashed 5-1 in last year's Copa America
>before the match everyone other than your opponents thought you'd win
>FIFA's president has a speech in Portuguese prepared for the trophy presentation
>22 gold medals with the players' names on them prepared for presenting to the team
>a song titled "Brazil The Victors" was composed and prepared to be played by a band
>mayor salutes the players as champions, newspapers already proclaim them world champions, etc etc
>first half 17 shots, 0 goals, nevermind there's still one more half
>score a goal 2 minutes into the second half, everyone celebrates as if they'd won
>start playing defensively and allowing your opponents to attack. BIG MISTAKE
>opponents equalise
>start to panic
>opponents score again and take the lead with 11 minutes to go
>whole stadium goes silent
>go on the attack again but can't string two passes together anymore
>chaos ensues come full time
>winners have to be escorted off the pitch, the president having to sneak the trophy to them
>speech wasted, medals all discarded, song never performed, whole team goes off in disgrace
Thanks. I guess it's hard to appreciate as someone e who doesn't follow sokker much. Was Uruguay really bad or was Brazil just considered that good? Did people really kill themselves over a game?
I get that the stakes were different given the circumstances of the world cup and national pride on the line but the favorited team losing by one goal in one game seems different to me than the favorited team getting btfo four games in a row in a seven game series.
It was not unlikely not happen, Uruguay was pretty good
The impact was just huge
>Did people really kill themselves over a game?
No, but some Brazilians did.
It is different in that it was a much more feasible and less embarrassing upset, but it was also the world cup on home soil with all that bullshit setup assuming they would win. This sweep was definitely the bigger upset, but the Stan Lee is annual, and the team in it always hosts games, and nobody on the sunbelt gives a fuck about hockey.
>newfag OP doesn't know about the failure that resurrected Yea Forums
This sounds like the Brazilians BTFOd themselves by sheer arrogance
Kek
If you want go by impact, Byzantine chariot racing started a riot that killed 30,000 people.
IIRC the exact quote is
>Only three people have ever silenced 200,000 people at the Maracana with a single gesture – Frank Sinatra, Pope John Paul II and me.
Interestingly enough no Brazilian holds a grudge against him, at least not as far as I know.
Uruguay were far from bad. They declined to participate in 1934 and 1938 so and WW2 caused 1942 and 1946 to be cancelled so as far as they were concerned they were still defending champions. Despite the 1-5 thrashing in the Copa, they'd actually beaten Brazil twice in their previous five encounters prior to the 1950 World Cup. They also thrashed Bolivia 8-0 in the group stage (which only had those two teams since another team withdrew).
Brazil were just that good; their performance in the final group stage up to that match was also stellar, thrashing Sweden 7-1 and Spain 6-1. Uruguay had to come from behind to draw 2-2 to Spain and needed a late goal to beat Sweden 3-2, so they were just seen as on par with them while still being far behind Brazil. Furthermore Brazil were the hosts on top of widely expected to win, so a loss would result in a bigger backlash than if they weren't the hosts (which wouldn't have done much by itself).
This, Blues vs Greens almost brought down an emperor. The rest of of these pleb sports can't compete.
No one cares
Brazil 1 - 7 Germany > rigged amerimutt sports
>blots
>hocgay
Brazil at least made the semifinals
That makes it even worse
>World Cup
>semifinal
>at home
>most watched game of all time
>Brazil
>1-7
>Germany breaks all your records in that game (most wins, most goals scored, Muller top scorer over Ronaldo)
Nothing will ever top it
I'd say a #1 overall seed getting blown out by 20 against a 16-seed has this beat.
How did that work out for UVA?
They redeemed themselves though
So Lightening confirmed 2020 champs
Having a good regular season or stage group and then losing is not such a big failure.
Not making the playoffs or losing group in group stages is worse.
Plus NHL isn't that big of a thing, sorry to say it, but that's truth
There are 82 regular season games, man. It’s a long season, and if you do historically well only to get swept in the first round, that’s a choke of epic proportions.
Can’t really compare single game chokes to this fiasco. They had to choke hugely 4 times in a row.
How dumb are you?
Hockey in the south was a mistake
Literally and objectively false. Maybe if you actually watched the series you would see that they for beat through and through, not just randomly.
