It is not possible. Hockey is an incredibly physical game, where teams face back to back games, a very long injury list and tough roadtrips. Then it is incredibly low scoring and games are often decided by one shot, and regular season OT/shootouts are basically a coinflip. That is not to say the Warriors weren't impressive, but they had more chances to run up the score, and less ware and tear to contend with.

Ok, I'll put it this way. The pats just had to play one good game to be considered the greatest ever. Just one, and they had made it look easy all year - and they always pulled it out smoothly when you thought maybe it wouldn't be easy. These are the same Brady and Belicheck pats who are 3-0 in the super bowl + more. One fucking game, and they blew it. Against a team that they had nearly blown it against before - but these were the pats, they were supposed to be perfect and would have all the answers to that problem. Except they didn't, and that's stunning, I mean one game from perfection for fuck's sake. The lightning just pulled a timeless choke that everyone should laugh at and will go down as one of the worst ever, but their core has choked before. President's Trophy winners have choked before. I think the problem with this thread is that people are arguing which choke is worse from a memorability standpoint rather than a statistical point.

Sure,18-1 looks far worse, but any single round elimination can't be worse than being swept in a best of 7 simply due to the fact that they didn't choke four times in a row. And obviously when you choke in the finals more people are gonna see and laugh at that, but you still had to haul ass to get there and you're presumably facing someone on the same level as you. A 1 seed losing to a WC2 is already bad enough, but when you factor in that said 1 seed is tied for most regular season wins in NHL history and they didn't just lose but get swept? And that said WC2 has never even won a series in playoffs history before? Maybe there are worse chokes out there, but it's hard to imagine a worse scenario.

There's more luck involved in the NHL than any other league but a seven game series reduces it. Tampa choked hard. At least the 07-08 Patriots lost a very close game and did so on because they were on the losing end of the greatest Hail Mary ever. Tampa on the other hand got swept badly. Perhaps if they went out in the second round to Boston / Toronto it wouldn't look as bad.
