They built the stadium which limited finances just as Man Utd (the Glazers), Chelsea (Abramovich), and then City (the Sheikhs) started splashing the cash like sailors on leave. Wenger did pretty well for a while, making top 4 with the likes of Eboue, Senderos, Djourou, Denilson, Chamakh, THE LORD, etc

But of course, he also brought those players to the club in the first place... his transfer policy was mixed at best. Perhaps things would've been different if two of his best post-invicibles buys (Eduardo and Diaby) weren't broken by injuries. There was certainly an element of bad luck there. By 2017-18, however, he was just tired. Despite being a great manager, he was also stubborn and you couldn't really see him finding a way out of this mess. Certainly the board are to blame but Wenger isn't faultless. He was in the end a great manager who would've done a lot more if not for bad timing and bad luck, who in the end grew to have a fatal flaw of stubbornness and grew old and stale in the job. He did truly love the club though.

People have fallen for the "Xhaka is good" meme this season because he's spent a lot of time playing next to Torrera, who's been able to cover for Xhaka's defensive issues. Despite this he's still been responsible for 5 or so of the league goals we've conceded this season. He'd probably do better in Italy, the games slower over there, so if someone's willing to buy him then we should sell. Maybe see if they want Mustafi as well.
