Historically good defense (as in best in the kenpom era) combined with not depending on any one person for offense. Teams like Gonzaga don't see that enough to know what to do with it. Michigan saw something like it against MSU and lost every time the two played this season. The reason Tech beat MSU is that Izzo's offense ran through that point guard EVERY DAMN POSSESSION.

Looking back it's the most overrated final ever, both teams are slow as shit, forced it to two slow big men that couldn't play defense, and everything was done at a snail's pace

At least with Tech and Virginia you can say both teams are legit great on perimeter defense, have multiple shot blockers, and 4 combined 3pt shooting specialists, especially Virginia's guys who can go fucking nuclear and trade 3 for 3 with any other team

Both of these teams are top 5 in Kenpom and TTech directly dispatched 2 of the teams that were ranked above them (MSU, Zags), this is nothing like the Butler/UConn shitfest.

Only reason why anybody would think to compare the two nattys is because neither of the teams are “muh blu bloods” but they certainly deserve to be playing for a championship.

Both team finished the regular season ranked in the top 10. Its a 1 vs a 3 seed. Butler was like an 8 that year.

Tech beat Michigan St by 10 points despite their best player playing like ass for the first 36 minutes of the game. They are 14-1 in their last 15 games, I think it’s rather silly to insist they can’t win games if they don’t bring their A game.

I live 35 miles from Lubbock. Aside from having to drive a couple or three hours to get to any good place to /out/, it's not bad. Well, Virginia has been on the cusp these last few years and so, theyre definitely the big dogs in this fight. Also while until recently they havent done much, they do have some history. Tech on the other hand has been an absolute nobody for the entirety of their program, and theyve been making a ton of good hires just it hasnt been working out. Theyve finally gotten there and its something of a feel good story for them. Its a shame beard wont be there for very long.

Because UVa's a really good school. While the rednecks in Lubbock overturn cars and set the town on fire the patricians in Charlottesville ring church bells and politely celebrate. That's why.

I see it a little bit differently. Tech has faced some pretty good defense this year. I don't think UVA has played a good defense that plays Tech's style. I don't see either defense getting exposed. What I think will happen is Tech's defense will frustrate UVA's offense more than the other way around. I see Tech winning by about 5 if Owens is mobile. If he's gimpy, UVA wins.

The styles are very different, though. Passing will be a problem for UVA. They have good shooters. How good are they at getting their own open shots? I've only seen the game against Auburn, but I think that matchup favors Tech.

A lot of the good ACC defenses don't play "good defense" like Tech though. VT is probably the best comparison stylistically. They pack it in even more than Tech does, but aren't quite as long to contest 3s. Clemson is probably closer to Tech personnel-wise. Virginia put up 64 and 63 in those two games, so I'd say if Tech can put up about that many points it should be enough for them to win.
