It does make sense that F1 wanted to complete the ladder and push it all as a package like MotoGP does, and honestly is not a bad thing at all. The handling of the European situation has been bad but it couldn't have been left as it was, you would have ended up with International F3 and European F3 that would have been 2 series at the same level with roughly the same quality of drivers thus creating other than confusion (not really if you are autistic enough to follow F3 you can make up the difference) also a competition between the 2 so FIA decided to declass the old F3 to be, at least as a facade, on a lower level. It makes sense on all the fronts but the situation with the organizers was mishandled.

Villeneuve is an interesting case because the first time he lost to a teammate after his rookie season was in 2003 against Button. Frentzen was highly rated and Villeneuve beat him in both 97 and 98. BAR years are harder to evaluate because Zonta wasn't very good. I do remember that Villeneuve had at least a couple of inspired drives in the early BAR years.

I never take anything apart from a set deliberately. The pieces are far too specialised these days for that. I'd just get reminded of the original set it came from and want to rebuild it. I hated those ones where you could combine two sets to make a new one. I felt like I was missing out in not having the combined set but equally felt like I was missing the two individual sets if I combined them.
Mixed feelings aswell on combined sets, I made up one with Bionicle back when I was a kid but tore it down soon after and rebuilt the single units because it didn't felt right I had a convertible one that was like a truck or a car depending on what you liked the most and even there is a tough choice, ended up tearing it down aswell but it was fine because I used the pieces to make other stuff, I have no knowledge of modern day sets so i can't tell about over-specialized pieces but honestly the deal isn't tearing the whole thing down but change and imrpove ugly parts so it really isn't a problem in this case
