He and those other people are the american nightmare if you catch my drift.
.1881970
Heh there's no need to be so coy... I think what user's trying to say is fuck niggers
I mean, kinda he's right.
he's kinda wrong...
there's even less of a shot at being him AND even less money in it
>there's even less of a shot at being him
You serious? Anyone can be a sports journalist. Not everyone can be a top 10 player in a sport
I get what he's saying but he's too smug
so cringe and redpilled
No, he's right. Stephen A Smith is unironically a example of "the american dream". Dude started off as a literal who newspaper columnist. Now he makes like 10 mil a year.
go ask your dad to name a sports journalist.
He'll get you five names.
Ask him to name an athlete.
He'll have a binder full of names.
All athletes start as literal whos then magically turn into millions of dollars of worth. the sports journalist has a comfy job before making it big time
Oh no, it's retarded.
Does he even do anything other than scream and talk about Lebron all day? I also remember him talking trash about players he'd never seen play like Kristass Porzingis and Luka the great white hope Doncic.
all you've proven is athletes are more memorable than sports journalists, which of course is true, but not what the original point was
>Does he even do anything other than scream and talk about Lebron all day?
That's precisely his point. Anybody can do what he and Skip do
nice reading comprehension
wow wow wow. Let's stop and rehash - this isn't that hard. SAS claims it is unlikely to be a cream of the crop AND well-known (he didn't bring up the greatest dart player) professional athlete. So we have these two concepts - elite talent and notoriety. Now, consider the best sports journalists that are well known. You will find a very thin list. In fact, that list is substantially thinner than the best well known athletes. So, SAS is 100% incorrect. Moreover, fags, he does not get paid as well. What a shitty dream
Yeah but unlike the names he mentioned nobody would want to be like him. A walking megaphone who's gotta act like a clown and spew bullshit not even himself believes just for ratings. He's probably well paid though, I'll give him that
>espn asshat sucks own dick even harder
color me shocked
>He's probably well paid though, I'll give him that
That is the American dream, Juninho
The American Dream is just the idea that anybody can work hard and go up in social or financial status. Not that you'll make $40 million a year playing a sport and be popular.
Hi can we tone the racism down?
re: less odds
reading is fun!!
are you retarded? your odds of becoming a successful sports journalist are infinitely better than becoming a successful pro athlete.
When does the Anime come out
And that you'll be independent and the government wont come fuck with you/take your stuff
why don't you think a little better and type afterwards.
You're thinking about yourself as an immense hunk of meat slopped in your crusty, smelly couch trying to hit the right key with your sausage fingers. This is the wrong way to think about it. You need to think about a newly minted human. As I have said numerous times, the list of elite, well known athletes is greater than the list of elite, well known sports journos. This newly minted human will have a harder time becoming the latter
your ad hominem doesn't distract from the fact that your argument is logically retarded, sorry. it is by no means easier to become a successful pro athlete than it is to become a success as a sports journalist, and the fact that you can't grasp that this far into the thread makes me worried about you.
Who the fuck cares if people know who you are? If I make millions a year as a journalist or a business man I don't give a fuck if people in outer mongolia don't know who I am.
>A newborn has a better chance of having a 1/100000000 physical gift that lets them be a top athlete than they do at going to journalism school
No wonder your country is fucked.
He's unironically right. It's from this interview btw
Black kids wanna be the next NBA super star or famous rapper but honestly it's one in a million chance like he said. They should focus on something practical and more realistic.
Anybody can be a football player too in their local rec league. There are about 100, or less, celebrity sports journalists on a top network, there are 50+ nfl players on an individual team roster. It's much harder to become a celebrity sports journalist.
>the insanely stupid logical fallacy in this post
how many people are trying to become NFL players versus how many are trying to become sports journalists, do you think
No wonder Greece is fucked if that is your understanding.
ok go read again - I've pretty consistently been saying elite and well known
what do you think a sports "journalist" is? It's somebody with a gift of connections, personality, presentability, etc etc.
You are absolutely deluded if you think anyone can just decide to do what SAS does.
I'm sure you also believe ANYONE can be a Hollywood actor. Get your brains unwashed please
>it's somehow harder to have "connections, personality, presentability" than it is to be good enough to be a star in the NFL
how are you this fucking retarded lmfao
>Reasons Greece has fallen on tough times
Exhibit A: This thread
millions of people on the street starving, living paycheck to paycheck, looking to make it big. If it were so easy for them to become SAS, let's see it happen.
Nope, we are at equilibrium here. There are just not enough openings for elite, well known TV personalities and many try. There are vastly more openings for elite, well known athletes in comparison.
This is the thread that goes to show just how NEET sp really is. No understanding of the world. It all comes down to what people want to consume. People will consume more athletics than conversations about athletics. It will always be more statistically unlikely to be the TV personality and there's just no other way around this.
come back when you understand the difference between "hard" and "statistically unlikely". I'll see you in a year
>it's statistically more unlikely to become a sports journalist than it is to become a pro athlete
how are you this fucking retarded lmao
holy snakes...
Start from the top of the thread and read carefully, consider the much repeated words of "elite" and "well known".
Then go have a salad and step outside, it will be good for you
Say "Joy Lane"
no
Dear sweet allah you are retarded
This guys is retarded and I will not give him any (You)’s
>I am more exceptional than these exceptional fellows because I succeeded despite being entirely unexceptional.
GET FUCKED, STEVE
Literally anyone can maintain a life despite building it on saying stupid shit.
I see people get laid all the time despite saying moronic shit. Hell I fuck regularly and literally spend hours of my limited free time shitposting in life and time
fuck off retard
I think what he means is you shouldn’t try to be superman, you can be perfectly middle class as a normal guy
anyone can do it, but only two or three are selected to do it.
Degree of difficulty is a separate issue from the filter of what will be consumed.
I'm still waiting to hear an adequate response. I'll give it thirty minutes.
The world is not run be things being difficult, it's run by whitoids trying to cut costs and keeping things as lean as possible.
THE BROOKLYN NETS IS THE AMERICAN DREAM. THE BROOKLYN NETS!
all you fags are living in a world which you think rewards merit.
You need to look at it from the whitoid perspective. They run everything and are trying to extract as much cash from you lowlives as possible. To extract cash for your BLACKED fetish, there are quite a few openings. To extract cash for your conversations about BLACKED fetish, there are fewer openings. The problem here is the word "hard" which could mean both merit based effort and statistical probability. If you just lose the merit based effort perspective entirely, you will begin to see things clearly. As it stands, you are living in the whitoid veil of ignorance
>thought this guy was some exceptional retard
>he's just a bargain bin /pol/poster
disappointing tbqh
yo quick question...
you have a hoop that's got a ten inch circumference and a hoop that has a twenty inch circumference... which would you choose to shoot into?
>this greek fuckhead ITT
i knew it was worth it to enter this thread
can someone please refute this statement? We can use it as a basis for further discussion
There are fewer available positions for network TV sports personality than there are for professional star athlete
you are sitting here since almost 3 hours arguing god knows what. what this guy in the OP implies is obvious. maybe poorly worded, but obvious. focus your time and resources on becoming some kind of middle class professional instead of following pipe dreams like becoming a millionaire through sports, music, etc because the consequence of failure is much more severe in the latter case.
lets look at my country. roughly 14 million people in my country play football on a semi regular basis. about 5 million of them do it trying to become pro. roughly 800 of those get to play in one of our top three divisions. 800 out of 5 million people (who are trying their darndest to make it) get to play pro and make money. whats with the other 4.99 million who dont make it? if they were smart, they diversified and work normal jobs. if they weren't, they are essentially fucked in their mid 20's, early 30's. and exactly THIS is what the guy in the OP is warning against. i dont know what purpose you follow with your strawmen about sports journalists or whatever. this is entirely besides the point.
instead of wasting everything you have on a pursuit in which it is clear that you won't become elite, try starting a normal career and learn something. a trade maybe? a college degree? something. this is what he is saying.
Ok finally something actually worth my time.
First, let's take care of the obvious. AGAIN, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ELITE AND WELL KNOWN PEOPLE. just ditch the middle class shit we are not talking about it. SAS surely is not middle class.
The trouble is in how you define "trying to become pro". With sports it's pretty obvious. Time spent working out, eating properly, practicing is this attempt at filling the available slots for pro athlete. However, there still is an equally extensive and intensive list of things that one trains for the TV personality. Time spent forming connections, time spent reading, writing, interaction with other and development of personality etc etc. These are things that are harder to collect data on but they are still something that is done. Now, someone can be forming these talents without consicously doing it. Later they will find out they spent loads of time developing these things and then say they can become SAS. But just because they weren't trying to become SAS all along, doesn't mean they weren't training their whole life to become him
which means lifelong training is required for both. But, this is not the point. The point is there are fewer openings for SAS than for star athlete
multiple kids i went to school with are now working radio stations and writing articles doing sports analysis. they are all jews so maybe us goyim don't get the same opportunities but its not like they are even famous or anything
You need good tier genetics to be a LeBron. Like top 0.001%
Anyone can do what Stephen A does if you spout enough shit... Maybe that's what you're doing right now?
yes but look, you are the only one interpreting his message literally. you argue that with saying "you can be stephen a." this guy implies becoming, well, literally him in a sense of becoming a really well known sports journalist. for you, the comparision is outcome/effort between being an elite athlete and an AAA media personality. in such a case, yes you would be right, maybe there wouldn't be such a big difference in opportunity. yes, you need tons of cronyism, luck, and other things to become one of THE media guys. this is true. but i hardly doubt that this is how his message must be interpreted. it would be beyond stupid of him to make such a claim. his point is a comparision of outcome/effort between trying to become an elite athlete and trying to become a vocational professional.
KEK z
keep up with the pace buddy
Ok we are in near agreement now. You just need to consider that in no way is SAS a vocational professional lol. It's in his interest obviously to come off this way, but he is in no way a salaryman type figure.
It's easy to take this tepid interpretation of what he's saying "being a mediocre desk jockey is easier than being an elite pro athlete". So, in this sense, thanks SAS for wasting my time. But if you want to take the most interesting interpretation that he's saying "being an elite sports TV personality is easier than being an elite pro athlete" than he's just plain wrong. So, either he has wasted my time with inanities or he's peddling deliberate falsehoods
He wasted your time man. But from going through this thread you are the only one who couldn't comprehend the point.
Who gives a shit what his point was.
Topic was brought up, I dealt with it.
you dealt with an issue literally no one else was having, grats
YOU CAN BE STEPHEN A. in bold. seems to me like the issue.
I took it to task.
No one else had the issue because they are NPCs that simplify everything into neat categories they have dealt with before.
>being this much of a brainlet literalist and taking that statement at face value
>not understanding his point that kids should set more achievable goals in life
you might be the most autistic person on this entire board
He actually right you moron why are you embarassing our flag ?
Stephen A smith is trying to push young black kids to get an education and a realistic job.
If you are tall and athletic as fuck sure, try your best in basketball...but if you didnt win the genetic lotery in terms of athleticism, you might as well get an education, go for a realistic profession and work hard as fuck.
well let's say this: the comparision with becoming a TV personality etc is plain wrong, i agree with that. but i had some suspicion and did some research. the quote in the OP came from this:
youtube.com
and indeed as i suspected, this guy is a figurehead of the successful black republican "businessman" that came from the ghetto. guys like him remind me of daymond john, chris gardner and similar people. a black guy growing up among other blacks who try to "make it" through basketball, rap and so on. they almost always fail. and then you have him, getting educated, climbing the social ladder through the conventional way, eventually reaching what is the "american dream" in its most basic form. becoming part of the "respected" class of society. you have to look at his statement from this perspective. to get out of the ghetto, you work hard instead of playing some basketball on the court.
so yeah, as once jiddu krishnamurti said, the spoken cannot be seperated from the speaker. and only then can you find out what was actually meant. this was an interesting excercise lol!
Oh the exercise isn't over lol.
Yes obviously, set more attainable goals for yourself is obvious.
BUT... what opportunities do you think the meme inner city black youth have? This is some kind of racism to assume that only black people throw away easily achievable opportunity. Blacks simply don't enough assets, industries, land, etc. to provide opportunity for their youth. Whitoids own it all and aren't hiring blacks. And just getting educated is setting aside the issue that all the schools for blacks are shit and you get put in jail for trying to get whitoid education.
Stephen A is just like the rest of the rare pull yourself up by your bootstraps black professional. Just ignores the fact that white boy is always trying to cut costs and decrease employment and if he has to hire, will more than likely hire white.
If he really wanted to make a difference, he should be arguing to break up the big monopolies, and proportionally give pieces of it to the black community. He should be arguing for reparations. He should be arguing for black communities to stop paying white banks and corporations and to invest in their own communities. This is the only to fix black youth unemployment
Based germany
This thread is gold. Based retard.
i remember the threads on Yea Forums when the op says
you'll argue about anything and then the shitshow starts
glad to see tradition is still cherished around erre
Really? I dont know of any sports analyst in history as rich and famous as Stephen A. I know of a bunch of superstar athletes though.
oh look this must be the rare insightful Ameribetus
well with that we would delve into a whole new topic and i couldn't say anything interesting about that. my last opinion on that would be that it doesn't really matter how much you think about these sociological issues because their solutions always involve some sort of god's hand. focus on yourself and try to improve your own situation. eventually you get enough resources to improve the situation of those around you. but again, this is some whole other topic and i need to leave now lol. thanks for the discussion.
I'm happy you contributed nothing but the most plainly observable and uncontroversial. I'll be sure to drink water because it's good for me and think positive thoughts because if I didn't that would be negative
Skip Bayless
i love the feel of lethargy and dispair you have
very balkanic of you
>this thread
PAY DENBTS
lol that's rich coming from a place with unfathomable student debt, credit card debt, mortgage debt. You have far more debt and still you just let your people die from beetus or stay in indentured servitude having to piss in bottles while you get boxes for rich whitoids. What a joke. Your debt keeps you slaves and you're not even fighting. At least we are fighting
>trying to paint not paying your debts as honorable
this is your average manchild's brain on internet political ideologies
>not knowing that periodic debt forgiveness was the backbone of ancient Sumerian, Babylonian, Judean societies
>not knowing that debt and it's interest grows exponentially faster than the economy
>not knowing anything
yeah the world should operate like it did 4000 years ago, great idea
>periodic debt forgiveness was the backbone of ancient Sumerian, Babylonian, Judean societies
Yes and getting fucked up the ass was the backbone of Ancient Greek society
you're right we should just allow debt to accumulate more and more. Sounds like the best course of action.
Let's put people in a lifetime of debt. No wait, let's put people into debt we know they can't even reasonably pay. Surely that's good for everyone. My god, they let you vote?
Slate has to be wiped clean. But that'll never happen. Shit will just deteriorate until catastrophe
I apologize our ancient nonces allowed you to think properly. Your nonces just suck the ever living shit out of all that is good in this world
>p-please forgive my debt daddy EU
you're such a philosophical child lol
sorry you're confused. Please forgive is a lot different than I'm not gonna fucking pay
Ok, it was fun for a while but Spiros here is clearly mentally retarded.
>Greece
Getting paid millions of dollars to shitpost irl.
My dream.
never forget
>collaborators
here's how I see it
Giannis is putting up numbers that haven't been seen since prime Lebron.
Harden is putting up numbers that haven't been seen since prime Jordan.
If Giannis wins MVP over harden it will be a travesty
that is pretty based actually.
REDPILL: You basically need to be at least 6'0+ to be an on-the-air sports talker, despite it having nothing to do with your ability to talk sports.
6'6" Scott Van Pelt
6'5" Chris Berman
6'4" John Buccigross
6'3" Dan Patrick
6'3" Dan LeBetard
6'3" Jim Nantz
6'3" Bomani Jones
6'2" Colin Cowherd
6'2" Michael Wilbon
6'1" Ernie Johnson
6'1" Stephen A Smith
6'1" Steve Levy
6'0" Tony Kornheiser
6'0" Tony Reali
There are obviously exceptions but even a guy 5'11" like Mike Greeny is considered like a pathetic manlet on TV.
>one in a billion
>if not more
Even pre-algebra would have been enough to avoid this pitfall. Does he think there's 100 billion black Americans?
Maybe he was exaggerating as a rhetorical device but that would be poor taste for such a serious topic. The odds of becoming a Stephen A. Smith are slim at best and calling yourself the "American Dream" is incredibly pretentious.
If his point had to be made, it should have been the nameless black guy that tried in school, held a job, and made it into the middle class and provides for his family.
Dig through his older tweets for some real bombshells.
Giannis has played the game at a higher level than everyone else this season. If Harden was at least a top 5 defender I would have given him the nod.
Like ESPN analyst?
you dumb nigger, literally anyone can go to school and become a journalist. people like lebron and KD are the 1%.
he's kinda based and listens to Mark Levin
>cuckolds btfo
>a thread up on Yea Forums that isn't a general
Why haven't jannies deleted this?
