Considering all of those need runner-runner, a check is fine there. You could defend a value bet to get one of the aces hooked, but that depends on how loose you and them played beforehand.

From the small amount of what I've followed the last years, it seems very boring and bland. It's just how they optimise their game with game theory. Optimal opening preflop raise is like 2.75x pot, and you should do x or y in case of z and you should call if the math regarding odds and expected value works out. It's not interesting to spectate.
