Week 9: >Saturday Memphis Express (2-6) at San Antonio Commanders (5-3), 12pm EST (CBS) San Diego Fleet (3-5) at Orlando Apollos (7-1), 8pm (NFL Network)
>Sunday Salt Lake Stallions (3-5) at Atlanta Legends (2-6), 4pm (B/R Live) Birmingham Iron (5-3) at Arizona Hotshots (5-3), 8pm (NFL Network)
the Star in Frisco will be a sell out for the AAF Owl. But only if I get digits.
James Bailey
One one hand, as the iron, I'm happy we just made the playoffs but... It also means we face the Apollos twice in a row in Orlando. Totally looking forward to that! God help us.
Liked that post. Good Luck, I just hope Commanders win in first round. Waiting to buy me tickets for the Owl
Asher Jackson
>General for a league dying this week
Sebastian Cooper
Can confirm it's not dying. Seems like Dundon was blowing smoke to get NFL dudes to join the AAF. seems everyone else was in disagreement. Also at the iron game there was a big "fire Dundon" sign. Iron game was packed though. I know official attendence was 17k but there was probably 25k+ in the stands at one point.
Commanders are >my team Apollos I respect Iron and Hotshots lost my respect and the fans are annoying Stallions are loveable losers Fleet are rivals but the memes are endearing Express are a joke, it's less hate and more disgust Legends have nothing going for them. No memes, Awful names. Nigger color scheme. Worst of the worst.
I don't know man, 2 of their loses were extreme bad luck (b'ham won because of a fluke vs the 2nd string QB and SD because Berco decided not to suck that one dragon in the last min) and SA was VERY close the whole game, they have a very good defense and an ok offense, they really ain't as bad as their record tells
Anyone who thinks this league isn’t finished is in denial desu.
Lucas Gonzalez
After today, I just hope the xfl takes the 3 highly attended teams in so that they can have a 10 game season with no repeat opponents. San Antonio and Houston would be fun away games for me to go to and vice versa. There were some Arizona fans in San Antonio, it was a beautiful thing.
Brody Gray
he was the best QB in the AAF and theres nothing you can say to change my mind fleet would be 7-1 under his wise leadership and undefeated if he started the season i will never forgive those vile memepiss express renegades for this
i wonder if the league folds that the xfl would take in teams from the aaf. i mean why not, san antonio, san diego both had high attendance numbers they should be interested in bringing that in
And might as well include Atlanta, though they should find a better stadium.
Elijah Baker
6-2 at absolute worst. I watched some of his play in the commanders rematch in w3 and the first half against the express and he had it so together. There's so many fuckups that Bercovici made in the ensuing games that Nelson wouldn't have.
So is the AAF really dying? Last I heard the finances and attendance wasn't looking good outside two teams.
Jaxson Foster
Finances are sealed for at very least 3 years, attendance is ok, ratings are higher than expected It's basically all about an article by >ESPN blowing everything out of proportion. Dundon just tried really bad to strongarm the NFLPA
Adrian Turner
Some of the reports seem to be from NBC though.
>attendance is ok Doesn't look like it.
>Finances are sealed for at very least 3 year Sauce?
Thomas Torres
I think they made several mistakes. Tickets for the championship are still unavailable. I’m not sure if they are waiting to see if San Antonio makes it so that they can move it to AT&T or if they just dropped the ball on not keeping their commitments.
Wyatt Rivera
Probably more like losing money. I mean considering how poorly attended their games are, they were probably scared of having an empty stadium for the finale. At least with their new venue it has less than 15,000 seats so it won't look as empty if worst comes to worst.
Mason Edwards
Am I the only one who thinks they should have had a name-the-team contest for the teams instead of the league deciding on all of them? Could have been a good way to engage the fanbase and grow organically instead of forcing the teams on the cities.
Caleb Myers
Which is sad because dfw loves football, and if half of the San Antonio crowd comes up (likely), the Star will be a mess.
Leo Robinson
Seriously though what went wrong? I mean initially things seemed promising and even doubters were quieted for a while, but now things are unraveling quicker than a car race.
Jonathan Howard
They should have spent more on ads and reduced ticket costs. Should have let everyone under 18 know they existed. Should have invited more hs bands to play at half time.
Josiah Nguyen
Not enough teams in big enough cities. Rules didn’t promote close games. They had an appollos game that had a 9 point differential and their opponent had no way to tie and force OT.
Leo Sanchez
But from what I could tell, the AAF was indeed promoted pretty well for a minor league. I mean it seemed more popular than the UFL ever was and maybe was at least as popular as XFL 1.0 or maybe only slightly less.
Jonathan Gonzalez
I thought they said that eliminating kick-offs and PATs was a good thing?
>teams in big enough cities But wouldn't that only add to their expenses? Plus their cities do seem pretty big, like Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, San Diego, San Antonio, and so on.
Luis Allen
The UFL was forgettable because they didn’t have enough teams and put them in places where nobody lived.
Brayden King
On kickoffs an PAT’s they can generally go away and absolutely nothing changes. The 4th and 12 play in lue of an onside kick was previously thought up by that crazy coach at Tampa Bay.
The big cities idea was that you need a place that has enough people to have enough willing casual fans willing to pay to go to the game. Plus nfl cities have better venues. The Alamodome is attroceous and much harder to park and get into than the Dallas Cowboys stadium. And I’ll have made the long drive to there 4/5 home games. Going there solidified in my mind that San Antonio should absolutely not host the UIL state championship games because of how fucked parking was. There’s no way anyone would put up with that situation for 3 games in a row.
Chase Walker
On a scale of 1 to 10: 1. Do you think the AAF will survive this week? 2. Do you think they'll survive to the Championship Game? 3. Do you think they'll make it to Year 2?
Also, what do you think of them changing their Championship venue?
Gabriel Hughes
1. It will finish out the season and have a championship. If they fold it will be almost immediately if they survive, then the NFL will either have to buy, or they will merge with the XFL. Big cities can afford a cheaper ticket spring football league. There aren’t many true football fans, but there are plenty in Texas, that’s why San Antonio did well.
Nicholas Bell
Those were separate questions though, I was going to ask you to rank each from 1 to 10
Dominic Stewart
1. 10 2. 10 3. 6
Owen Thompson
They changed the venue because Texas is the only place with enough casual football fans. You can think the UIL and Fox Sports Southwest show:High School Scoreboard Live for that. The show makes kids and adults attend high school games. Texas always had great attendance with the arena league. We have enough sports fans here to support games, the ticket price just has to be small enough.
Grayson Robinson
It holds 12,000 people. If they can't fill a tiny ass stadium like that, consider the league officially dead.
Jonathan Morgan
>Of course I'm a fan of the Fleet bro haha what gave it away
Smaller venue means they'll be able to pack it out, thus making things look impressive for casual television viewers.
I see the league folding if Dundon doesn't get his way with the NFLPA -- because his $250 mil investment can be pulled out at anytime. TV ratings are low as fuck, attendances aren't impressive across the board and costs outweigh revenue.
I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 4 teams -- such as Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego and Memphis -- get absorbed by the XFL.
Chase Phillips
If they had an option to buy them. I’ve looked on seat geek and can’t find them. I want to go. And I’ve seen big hs playoff games at the star. It’ll be a cluster if they try to sell tickets live. Their printers aren’t fast enough and it was a cluster fuck when two big 6A schools met there. Most everyone missed the first quarter waiting in line because they didn’t preprint tickets.
Chase Lee
100% agree. Wondering why Memphis didn’t have better attendance.
Joshua Ortiz
Same. I thought Johnny Football would've been a bigger pull.
Joshua Price
Vegas was a horrible idea in the first place, no one there would care about going to a neutral site AAF game. No one went to games of any of the football leagues there when they even had their own teams.
Jace Mitchell
owners just wanted to fuck there, or else saw the NBA all-star game go really well, and figured "we can do that but without the tradition or goodwill built up by decades of growth in popularity."
anyway, expand into fucking Vegas, ebersol
Asher Nguyen
who SHOTS here
Brandon Rogers
Here bro
>On a scale of 1 to 10: >1. Do you think the AAF will survive this week? 10 >2. Do you think they'll survive to the Championship Game? 9.9 >3. Do you think they'll make it to Year 2? 6 >Also, what do you think of them changing their Championship venue? Good idea given the circustances, Jerry Jones giving the League a help is always welcome and 12k seats is easy to fill, if I lived in the US and the Hotshots made it to the final I'd go, and even if they didn't I'd go anyways if I lived near to TX
>>Finances are sealed for at very least 3 year >Sauce? Dubdon bought the League for 250M, still has to pay around 175M
Oliver Peterson
If the AAF folds, I hope San Antonio, Orlando, Memphis and San Diego are absorbed into the XFL. The XFL has potential. I just don't like that they have 40 man rosters. Idk why but i don't that change off putting. Means a lot of positions will have little depth
Benjamin Cox
Any AAF team would be much better than the other XFL teams simply due to salary reasons, the XFL can't get guys of the likes of Rashad Ross, Will Sutton or Johnny Manziel with their lame salaries
Carson Allen
Also a reason why a merger would be bad for XFL teams
Isaac Baker
What are the salaries?
Benjamin Miller
>91819927 You’d be surprised at what former NFL stars will play for if they think they have another chance in the league. Kaep is just an idiot. The 2001 xfl had a cornerback with 17 years in the nfl play on the SF team simply so he could be on a championship team as he had never been on one from hs, college, or pro.
>h-heh, retards don’t understand, the AFL WILL SURIVIVE Press S to spit on every tard who thought this would last.
Joshua Wood
spring football will never work. you’d think after like 10 attempts investors would get the fucking picture by now, but no matter what they do differently the result is the same, interest running out and money running out. if Vince was smart he’d just chuck (futurely sneed) the xfl and cut his losses.
There IS such thing as an over-saturation of football. That's reason #1.
Reason #2 is there aren't enough decent caliber players to go around. In the NFL there's maybe 10 teams worth watching, CFL maybe 3. This leaves about 30 professional football teams full of subpar players. The AAF was composed mainly of players who weren't even worth a practice roster slot in either league's shit teams. And I'm not sure if you've noticed, but American Football strategy is pretty much all timing based and the game completely falls apart if the team has no chemistry and is full of scrubs who should know when their time is up.
Reason #3 is the boomers who ran it spent an excessive amount of money on useless shit to make the league look "legit." Football cards, jerseys, an official app that was fun for like five minutes, AAA-quality production crews broadcasting each game, salaries for former NFL players to come and shill the league, all of this shit costs huge money. They spent this money when absolutely nobody was watching or attending the games, and no company was buying commercial slots.
the league is folding because one of the original investors (who also happens to be a nigger) never forked over the money he promised
the league had to turn to Dundon after the season had already started to stay afloat
Thomas Taylor
The AAF fucked itself so many times. Cities too small to show up to games. Ticket prices in tiers when nobody had any interest instead of just selling general admission tickets. No advertising.
The biggest reason that spring football won’t happen is that the NFL won’t support it and the NBA and NHL can’t handle the competition. Baseball knows it can’t compete with football and they don’t want it either.
Hopefully the XFL doesn’t go full retard.
Landon Garcia
>not thinking the Xfl will meet the same fate or worse
People don't actually think the XFL will be any more successful the second time around, do they? If anything, it'll do worse because it failed so badly the first time and people see it as a joke.
Sebastian Wilson
so whatre you guys gonna do now just wait for the xfl another sport
Noah King
insanely based
Michael Davis
if your main investor was never interested in the league in the first place, I'd say that's a fairly good indication of its limited appeal
Isaiah Parker
It's got a built-in media fanbase that the AAF didn't have.
Nathaniel Stewart
ABANDON SHIP ABANDON SHIP WEEEWOOOWEEEEWOOOO
Jaxson Williams
are there any other boat/fleet related teams in any other sport? id hate to think all the fleet memes are going to go to waste now
The welfare for former nfl players worried me. Should have ran it like a hs going to a big stadium for a playoff game instead of a professional league. Should have paid players a percentage of the gate and had limited rosters. This way active players would go to middle schools and high schools and hand out bogo tickets. Tickets should have been cheap. But no, they refused to operate on a shoestring budget.
Levi Stewart
lmao
Liam Collins
That’s exactly it though. Don’t market it as super serious, add in some trademark Vince schenanigans and maybe some wresting commentary shit to spice it up and you’ve got something that’s technically football, but also something that people think is fun to watch.
Henry Thompson
>Built in media fanbase What. Xfl is doa just like the aaf
Henry Fisher
I think they can be, they just need to keep teams where people will go. DFW and Houston are good choices. Not sure about the stadiums that they chose.
Michael Perry
i was saving this for the game thread but now thats not gonna happen so here it is garrett gilbert? more like carrot gaybert lmao
People (especially in the media) have extreme nostalgia goggles for the XFL, so the same ones that were laughing at anyone who watched the AAF will be breathlessly promoting and reporting on it.
Matthew Fisher
save it for when he gets picked up by the Redskins
Isaac Perez
NBA is gay.
Jose Lopez
The XFL had huge support during the opening weeks and people still talk fondly about it to this day.
The problem was that this was 2001 and social media wasn't a thing yet. There was no such thing as viral videos or ways for people to talk among themselves.
ESPN/SI were your sole places to get sports news and they ran a smear job on the league due to being in the NFL's back pocket. Brainwashed normies who otherwise liked the league and went to the games, stopped going to the games and paying attention to the league.
Was alive and coherent back then. You'd watch the games, some of them were pretty exciting, then turn on The Score for highlights and they'd sit there and talk shit about it.
How would you feel if XFL absorbed the AAF teams and became a 16-team league?
Sebastian King
The Milwaukee and Norfolk Admirals but that’s minor league hockey
Jackson Parker
Fuck off.
Gavin Cox
You haven't been paying attention to any of the xfl pressers have you, the whole thing is going to be played straight this time around
Zachary Walker
Fugg
Alexander Harris
What's Manziel going to do now? XFL is still pretty far away.
Justin Morris
I feel bad for old Johnny >Play for one drive one game >Other QB makes a game winning drive in the 4th >Wife leaves you >Second game get a concussion >League folds two days later
Being Johnny football must be suffering
Ethan Cruz
Bring the fleet to the XFL, I have too many fleet memes to get rid of
No you niggers are forever missing the playoffs. Wojak edits aren’t memes either.
Henry Evans
It could work as a 15 week League with no repeat opponents (the way football should be NFL) until the playoffs! Even strength of schedule. But i would prefer an eleven team ten week schedule top 6 make playoffs.
Joseph Lewis
I guess you can't get knocked out if the season never ends.
I was pretty sure that nobody would fold before season’s end. But damn!
I had some concerns about the cities they chose and the stadiums. Everyone dismissed them. Claimed the model was different.
The whole thing felt like a rush job to derail the xfl. Perhaps the nflpa is just a shortsighted organisation and doesn’t think long term about how a free agent can make himself more attractive to NFL teams? Weird. It’s as if they don’t have ALL players best interests in mind. Practice squad players can be hidden gems. Should have let them play.
Easton Sullivan
so how long before Ebersol gets lynched for creating a scam league that needed miracle infusions of cash to survive?
He was probably the reason the 2001 xfl did so poorly. I get the since of which bad ideas from 2001 were ebersols after I saw the small cities they chose and those attrocious ref uniforms.
Ryder Rogers

The league folded because the fleet cost too much to operate.
I just don't think there's the market for a secondary football league
Michael Watson
wear it anyways, its still decent looking clothes. Wear it in honor of them
Aiden Turner
Is AZ to San An within driving distance? XFL has a team in LA. If they add SD and AZ that is within charter bus distance so it could save on travel costs
Jeremiah Peterson
>tfw you were a lifelong fan for the entire life of the team
Not really, but I did see a couple of hotshot fans last week. There was an rv from New Mexico there. It was nice. Often the Cowboys has more fans than the Cardinals did at home simply because of New Mexico fans.
Oliver Young
God that sucks. We’re you the senpai that was there last week for one of the hotshot players?
Lucas Hall
God, I hate the cowgoys.
Charles Allen
Honestly pretty depressed rn. I really liked this league and was excited watching it develop. Fuck dundon. Hopefully based Vince buys a few/all AAF teams
No, I was going to go to the game in san diego though. I just hope that he makes a practice squad or gets picked up by Vancouver since it's the closest team to me
Sucks for the players desu, feel bad for them. Couldn't imagine having the rug pulled out like that
Hudson Morgan
Fuck that faggot Dundon.
Logan Wood
the league is officially dead
Thomas Mitchell
seethe
Asher Williams
They're having a team meeting in 3 bongs, probably to make it official. I'm just glad the only injury he got was a torn pinky ligament
Angel Johnson
What’s your favorite sport?
Jackson Cox
Yeah, the travel doesn’t translate all that well unless it was people going there from Amarillo. New Orleans is also an nfl travel spot. I’ve seen Texans fans travel to Arlington and get on I 45 after seeing the cowboys-Texans game (a series that should be made permanent).
Owen Sullivan
So Dundon was basically a scam
Michael Phillips
Can't they just play for the XFL?
Jeremiah Jenkins
I hope he can get a nod from them or the xfl next season. Man this really sucks I had tickets next week as well. Fuck the NHL I’m convinced they were behind the XFL dying. Has anyone called Jerry Jones? They should atleast see if there are some investors willing to keep it afloat. This is absolutely shit, but I did see some major idiocy by the AAF.
Matthew Ramirez
>have to settle for niggerhoop and boreball til the fall FUCK
Aiden Phillips
Nah, I blame ebersol and polian. Dundon just realized it was doomed to fail from the start
Adrian Williams
Possibly

The leagues dead, I think everyone realizes that but the aftermath is going to be messy
Cameron Taylor
How so?
Adam Cooper
Is the AAF a bigger failure than the XFL? At least the XFL played its full season.
Asher Collins
Not giving AAF players another chance at the NFL Goddell.
Adrian Butler
They are full retards who believe in a minimum wage.
Lincoln Anderson
I am really fucking sad about this
This league had everything in place to be the development league American football desperately needed and it will all be fucked over by Dundon being a shitty businessman and could have developed into a cool 16 team league in a few years and something to watch when the nfl was in the offseason
I hate what that man has done to football and attempted to do to all levels of football. We need a Texan in charge of the NFL
Levi Davis
Would you rather see more rookie contracts like Sam Bradfords?
Gabriel Stewart
They should have shortened the season down to 7 games, no repeat opponents and top 4 teams in playoffs. Could have added a game each year they added a new team.
Robert Smith
When the XFL fails, have Oliver Luck lead a coup to remove Goddell from his position.
Easton Rivera
Is honestly think the contract situation was plain fucked in the nfl. I don’t fully comprehend how it got out of control, but vets should be allowed to take in less money.
Jaxson Cruz
Goodell is just a figurehead for the fans to direct their anger at, ownership is behind all the nfls bullshit
Carson Mitchell
Not a bad idea.
Cooper James
Well owners love to swim in their profits, so fans are kinda fucked.
Isaiah Thomas
Dundon is crazy, but he's not an idiot.
Thomas Mitchell
I’m not 100% sure, but I would never have allowed pink on the football field or the nfleurope to fail. I’d have moved every team to Germany and just let it run on a shoestring budget and I wouldn’t have had those useless attempt to develop international players.
Aiden Sanchez
Can't be a developmental league if there's nobody to develop. All the "project" players never would have been allowed to hone their skills in the AAF.
James Scott
There were a couple of decent players that came out of NFL europa
Robert Richardson
>/aaf/ general - DEAD AS FUCK edition

How will trump get revenge on the nfl? That’s what I am waiting for. The guy has always been a pro athlete’s friend.
to all my fleet bros: it was a joy to make a bunch of shitty memes for the fleet warmed my soul each time i saw them posted shout outs to the user who made the anime boat qts, that one romanian fleet fan, that one dude who always posted >boats, and to every other single fleet fan here. love you guys to the rest of you: even though you chose to not root for the fleet, we still had a little brodom of our own going on and that was cool. we all know the fleet wouldve come back to reclaim the 2nd seed in the west and won the champion ship it was inevitable. ill miss the cummanders and their one meme, the hotshits, the stall-ions. the west was the best and it wasnt close to the iron /ironfleet/ 4 lyfe to the kangs - you were there too to the apollos you guys wouldve gotten booty blasted 6 ways from sunday unquestionably and lost but your team was alright to you vile memepiss degenerates i will never forgive you for hurting admiral nelson and robbing the fleet of a 7-1 season heres to our sad little league forever gone and the autists who stuck it out the entire time ill miss yall cheers
It was fun shit posting with you guys. Pretty sad we didn't even get the playoffs.

AFL starts back up in a few weeks with a new team in Atlantic City, perfect for an addict like him.
Justin Adams
>the financial backer is the guy who wanted to start the league >$500 million already infused into it >has own streaming service so not at the mercy of tv companies >AAF folding I'm starting to think the XFL might last more than one season.
So the XFL will have 8 teams in its first season. The cities are:
1- Dallas 2- Houston 3- Los Angeles 4- New York (NJ) 5- St. Louis 6- Seattle 7- Tampa Bay 8- Washington D.C.
Considering the failed AAF experience. Would you change/add/eliminate any of those cities to maximize XFL's chances of success?
Angel Wright
I'd take out Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston. Put in San Antonio, Orlando, and San Diego.
Isaac Miller

I didn't watch after the first game but, RIP.
Easton Perry
I will always remember all the history and culture our great boats community created. We outshined all the other teams combined with our spirit and brotherhood. That being said, it’s time for Vince to make football great again.
Vince is so fucking based. Now he just needs to stop fucking around with jabronis like Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and John Cena and give my man Elias a real shot.
Cities with NFL teams didn't give a fuck about the AAF. The cities need to be in places like San Antonio. LA is gonna be a disaster. I bet St. Louis will have the highest attendance if weather doesn't fuck them. Which is the second suggestion: start it a month later.
Grayson Mitchell
Guarantee Seattle will have an ironic fansbase.
Elijah Martin
They said this about the AAF too.

Luis Stewart
I KNOW
I KNOW I'VE LET YOU DOWN
Christian Diaz
lol fuck this shit meme league, xfl will be way better.
Let’s all be honest here. If you can’t make a practice squad you’re not worth watching. The NFL should be under no obligation to farm out their prospects risking injury. 70 million dollar loss man is an idiot for getting involved without hammering out details.
Joshua Ortiz
Lol. Dfw will attend. San Antonio needs to be added as expansion team. Along with San Diego and Orlando. 11 teams 10 games no repeat opponents. Perfection.
Adrian Mitchell
Checked F It was good while it lasts
Camden Bennett
Nice
Gabriel Lee
You need a large population to get seats filled. Believe it or not, the vast majority of DFW has never been to a Cowboys game, but plenty have seen a state championship game there cuz it is cheap. People will attend if it is cheap.
Easton Foster
I'm glad I didn't book that flight to Vegas for the 'ship

Well it was a fun 7 weeks boys. I’ll always have my Fleet merc to remember the good times. Shame we couldn’t finish a single season. Hopefully the XFL will be better managed. It actually has a local team too so I can go to some games.
Ayden Gomez
What a joke sports is. How does this show succeed but the AAF goes down?
Quite literally if he didn't throw in all his money they would have shut their doors week 3.
Joseph Lee
>implying that wasn't just an excuse he used as an out They were never going to budge. He had no leverage. A PR stunt to not look as bad, as he takes the gambling tech, and runs.
Austin Perry
Nobody would pay that for some shitty gambling app
Levi Reyes
>muh app there is no "gambling tech" you utter faggots, and certainly not one worth $70 million. Stop circulating reddit rumors and a literal who on twitter
maybe if the league had been legitimate and well-funded it wouldn't have needed a single owner to survive past Week 3
Matthew Sullivan
Viewership was doing great despite the lackluster advertising and premium channel deals.
Any real investor would know that their would be a loss of profits at first. Nah, he was just in it for the tech. The founders were looking for an investor, and had a 3 year plan to integrate themselves into the NFL with the new CBA. Dundon fast tracked that, in a seemingly futile attempt.
Parker Sanchez
>Albert Breer >literal who Fuck off, Dundon.
Ethan Reyes
What fucking tech? A shitty gambling app that didn't even work right? You could build it from the ground up for cheaper.
Oliver Morgan
How much will AAF merch be worth in 20 years when most people forget about it?
Isaiah Miller
The gambling app wasn't out yet, though? That matched with the actual tech in the pads and balls.
Bentley Sullivan
Breer isn't the one pushing the >$70 million for a non-existent app narrative. Ebersol has no clue how to run a football league and would have been laughed out of any sales pitch were it not for his father's name
James Wright
I blame that retard ebersoi, he was a complete amateur
Ian Rogers
It is a sad thing. They tried too many things. Hired too many jocks. Should have just confined the league to Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. But no had to put teams in obscure places with no marketing.
Jacob Garcia
>Phoenix, Atlanta, San Antonio, San Diego, Orlando, Birmingham, Salt Lake City and Memphis are obscure
Didn't you know user? If you aren't LA or New York you're obscure and flyover.
Jordan Foster
Breer tweeted it.
The issue wasn't obscurity, it was picking some non-football towns.
Hudson Baker
They could have picked better stadiums. What the fuck was up with the old braves ballpark? Nobody showed up. 3 Texas teams and an OKC team (Norman) and a Shreveport and New Orleans team would have had some fun travel for me.
Levi Reed
True. I don't know why they didn't put a team in Dallas. Some of those cities had no excuse. Arizona should have had better attendance. Should have had their night games there.
Elijah Mitchell
Could the XFL buy naming rights? I'm sure they would love to incorporate AAF teams like San Antonio and Birmingham who were pulling in big attendance numbers.
Dylan Cook
>Breer tweeted it. because Ebersol's lawyer put it on twitter, faggot
kill yourself if you unironically think motion trackers are worth $70 million
The XFL already has teams in Dallas and Houston. I don't think they're going to want a 3rd Texas team so soon. Besides, the AAF didn't even finish a single season. There's not a lot of loyalty there yet; the XFL could just make up their own brand for free.
Jace Adams
Breer is Ebersol's lawyer?
kill yourself if you unironically think folding a league after 6 weeks is worth $70 million
It would get cross Texas travel for away games. It's fun to leave town for another one. San Antonio to Fort Worth and DFW going to Houston. What's not to like?
Chase Reed
>AAF players contracts will be terminated today, others in football operations will have their positions terminated tomorrow.
Brandon Hall
>team sucks >league dies so you get to avoid further embarrassment Feelsgudmang
So what are the chances the Commanders and Apollos get taken into the XFL? Both had decent attendance and seems to fit the bill for what the XFL wants, right?
Tyler Carter
Nothing
Cameron Martinez
I'm a Roughriders man
Bentley Williams
Man this really fucking blows I hate the goddamn nfl and the AAF was fun
I didn't wanna spend the crazy money on one but damn they look nice.
Caleb Fisher
also Valor for the AFL
Christopher Howard
Adding onto this, here's the final attendance figures.
League averaged 15,292 people Stadiums averaged a fill of 29.12%
NO game ever managed to fill half (50%) of their stadium. Commanders came the closest, at 47.41% and with the league's highest attended game -- 30,345 -- when they defeated the Stallions in Week 7.
I'll start doing tv ratings and attendance figures again when the XFL rolls around next year.
How's your brother doing? Is he taking the news well, or is he pissed? Does he think that they're 100% or does he think there's still a chance the league could be saved?
Carter Ramirez
>imagine rooting for the NFL
Sick peope
Tyler Scott
lel, you can't get to the AAF shop site.
Dylan Carter
Why would they rent out fuck huge stadiums for a minor league?
Camden Phillips
>AAF folds >masturbate to boatsluts anyways it was good while it lasted
He literally just saw this season as a way to make more money and get scouts eyes on him. Some websites are listing him as one of the top defenders to go back to CFL, he was with Toronto the last 2 years
James Myers
So he's fine with the league folding? How did he find out about the news?
Matthew Davis
>Why can't San Antonio have a football team? Roadrunners?
Kayden Gomez
That sucks. Well he got some good game film on him that’s for sure.
Ebersol blatantly lied about the viability of the AAF from day one. He then conned Dundon into giving them funding, saying it would bounce them back to being on track and profitable.
All a lie, and when Dundon (an actual businessman) saw what was going on, he pulled the plug. Ebersol has been leaking MORE LIES all afternoon trying to escape the blame, and retards like you, reddit, and twitter ate it up.
tl;dr Charlie Ebersol is to blame
Luke Lee
it’ll be first on the list of the league ever expands
>have a billion dollar investment >guarantee solvency with a $250 million shot in the arm last month >still die HOW THE FUCK DO OTHER LEAGUES NOT COLLAPSE, FOR $250 MILLION HE COULD HAVE PAID FOR COLLEGE FOR LITERALLY EVERYONE
Would the AAF have survived if they engaged the cities from the start? I mean they didn't even hold a name-the-team contest or logo contest for any of the teams, they were all decided by the league itself. It's like the league forced the teams on the cities instead of allowing the fanbase to grow organically. Even the UFL seemed to do better in that regard when it comes to fan engagement.
Samuel Miller
The UFL was digging deeper holes. At least the players and coaches all were being paid in the AAF.
Honestly, no, not the way that things were going. Even if they sold 5,000 more tickets to every game in year one, they would have had to pay more for advertising to do so, and they'd be in the same place they are right now. Which honestly should be survivable, but they goofed with the funding and let Dundon drunk drive it into the lake.
I meant, would have involving the cities from launch, building fanbases and giving them a role in developing the brands: could it have saved the league or at least helped stopped the bleeding?
Matthew Green
>running game clock
fuck yeah
Kevin Robinson
I don't think it would have changed the course too much
Bentley Sanchez
It had nothing to do with the play, the attendance or the interest it was literally It was mismanaged and both times big investors were interested they ran away screaming because it was so poorly managed.
On the play and fan side it was more than adequate for an inaugural season, the leaders couldn’t keep their investors in for the long run.
Killed by cash flow not by bad products or lack of sales, incredibly common in many many buisnessss
Dundon didn't give them $250 million, he was paying for operation costs up to that number, because they folded early he's only out $70 some million
Joshua Bell
>Would the AAF have survived if No matter what comes after this, the answer is probably "no". Either they knowingly started the season $300,000,000 short hoping to pay the operating costs out of new investors pockets before collapsing (ie a borderline scam)
Or they got corporate-raided by a guy with mysterious motives and/or poor judgment.
Or both. extra marketing probably wouldn't have helped much.
Joseph Thomas
If that's true, he single-handedly shut down the league. You can't invest that amount and then go "take-backsies" when not even 30% of it has been spent.
What an asshole.
Jace Martin
this vince has an advantage that every one seems to forget. He tried this already and failed, that means he is one of the few people in the world to have experience building a football league, seeing it fail, and having almost 20 years to understand what went wrong. You learn more form your failures.
Connor White
Was there really no other person/group of people willing to put money in that didn't demand absolute control?
>despite 0 leverage, make 7 day time limit demand of an organization that takes 5 years to even think about thinking of doing anything >naturally, no response >"WELP I TRIED GUESS WE'RE DONE HERE, THANKS FOR THE APP THOUGH" And over such a retarded ass issue too, as if practice squaders and the #53 guy on the roster would've made a difference.
Hockey was the one sport where I didn't have a clear least favorite team in the league, but that's changed now. The Whalers would never have done us dirty like this
Dominic Cooper
Yeah his excuse was shit, even if he actually wanted such a deal if expected to get it on first try and before the end of the first season is idiotic
Jaxon Cook
I really wanted to see the Hotshots win the bowl
Jeremiah Hernandez
same bud, i think im going to try to buy a hat or something, just as a nice little reminder.
Carson Butler
...
Ryder Gray
$250 million is a hell of a lot of money, even if you're a billionaire.
so why is reddit blaming Dundon, and not the people that needed to give total control to one investor just to make ends meet?
Adrian King
>here IS such thing as an over-saturation of football fucking maple nigger. football plays for 21 weeks counting the post season there's over half a year of the best sport not being played while you have boreball, apehoop, and ice fight going nearly the whole year. If the aaf was subpar players then what the hell does that make ncaa teams? subsubsubpar? yet people still watch that
Evan Hall
>basketball and soccer pollute the media the entire year >football ends right after the super bowl >anyone who tries to capitalize on post super bowl football interest fails fun
James Morris
What would Trump's team be called?
Jose Peterson
The Golden Showers
Elijah Garcia
Something stupid, like every other XFL team, I'm sure
Lincoln King
it was the generals last time
this time it should be the presidents
Parker Kelly
The Trump Cards
Jacob Barnes
>clubs for home conference games >spades for home non conference games >diamonds for away conference games >hearts for away non conference games I like it
The players shaking hands in the parking lot fucking hurt
Adam Davis
Yeah that was heartbreaking
Mason Reyes
God that sucks to see. Didn’t know that I was at the last home game last week.
Kevin Morales
baby hands
Juan Davis
WTF is Ebersol's problem.
if only there were a word to describe a guy who stands by while some more powerful dude fucks his property.
Joshua Martin
He was utterly desperate for money and gave complete control to a super rich guy. Not exactly good business sense.
Ethan Parker
>not having a solid financial plan and budget BEFORE your league launches This is why we can't have nice things.
Jaxon Nguyen
Because redditors are retarded, and don't dig beneath the surface to see Ebersol is the real cunt to blame.
Parker Price
i mean...
what you have is a situation exactly like when the Sonics moves to Oklahoma, which Yea Forums has some specific opinions about.
Ebersol placed trust in someone to do a business transaction, and instead of putting his baby in good hands, the person murdered the baby for parts (or moved it to OKC, so basically the same thing).
While this is bad, and Dundon is bad and stupid and bad, Ebersol is the one who had a business plan to beta that he couldn't even predict his assets 8 weeks into the future.
The WNBA is 20 years old, but this dude couldn't make it two months. And before some asshole is like, "Oh the WNBA gets NBA money," well the MLR exists too and is just starting year two. Fuck.
Robert Ramirez
>it was the generals last time the team that always loses to a bunch of black guys?
James Barnes
>/AFL/ the ozzie one?
Jordan Jackson
>Trump was right. No, sweetie. No.... no.
the AAF failed because Ebersol didn't have a business plan, gave control to someone with more money, who wasn't interested in running the league.
20 years ago, Trump was denied ownership of an NFL team, so when he bought in to the USFL, he demanded they move to the fall. The league folded the following season.
Ebersol is to blame here. You don't start shooting a movie if you don't have enough money to shoot the whole thing.
Isaac Baker
to the billionaires, we are merely product
John Bailey
NEW and sadly the last
Brody King
>500
;_;
Jace Robinson
even the Lingerie Football League (renamed to Ladies Football League) lasted longer.
XFL should be fine. If they can't get any TV money then they can just use their WWE Network to broadcast games and archive them until they build enough up fan support to get a decent TV deal.
Mason Williams
>If they can't get any TV money
Vince is signing a deal with ESPN and ABC (or possibly FOX) I think. They should be fine.
Daniel Phillips
kek
Owen King
The WNBA by itself would close after 1 season.
Chase Thompson
Can you keep posting those threads btw? The lfa is all I have to live for now
Henry Nelson
>Dubdon bought the League for 250M, still has to pay around 175M He didn't. He said was going to invest up to that much in it, but spread it out over time. The league didn't receive a lump sum.
So essentially, he was running the league week to week. This was known for almost a month now, and people were thinking it was odd at the time.
