The Irish hate Irish things, they prefer to suckle on the bountiful teat of British sport and culture.

Gaelic Football is the biggest, most watched, most followed sport in Ireland.

The Irish are the most cucked nation on earth

whats that? ball made out of stone and the pitch has bunch of stonehenges?

stop being rude

I really don't know what is this, gaelic sounds very celtic and old fashioned

>gay lick

forced amateurism means it doesn’t get much commercial exposure
wouldn’t expect an americustomer to understand

It's halfway between Football and Rugby.

Attached: 1200px-Aidan_O'Mahony_&_Eoin_Bradley.jpg (1200x826, 261K)

That's bullshit. It's football all the way. Gaelic is going through a popular phase right now because Dublin (the biggest population center by far) are winning. If this stops it will be equivalent to hurling.

Attached: willyoustandinthebandlikeatrueirishman.png (596x147, 10K)

it's funny as fuck, looks like a bunch of guys deliberately disobeying the rules while the referee chases them around but can't do shit.

When I was in Ireland EPL stuff was everywhere

>average football attendance 3,077

If they put as much effort into supporting and therefore improving their domestic league as they do being gloryhunting plastics, Ireland would be pretty decent.

That's because half of Ireland is in England every weekend to watch the footy.

Americans with a great great great great grandma that visited Ireland once love Ireland and Irish things more than micks do.

ill informed post

both gaylick football and hurling are pretty big in Ireland so I dunno what OP is talking about

Exactly. Irish hate Ireland.

You stupid fucking westbrit. Leave Dublin for once in your life. GAA has had a resurgence in Dublin and it's still nowhere near as popular in the capital as it is in every other county.

>Not even in their own country
This is like saying the NFL isn't popular in the US. Complete ignorance.

Reminder that 50000 (FIFTY THOUSAND) people went to see amateur WOMEN play Gaelic football last year

Attached: 8EwhcIE.png (774x810, 800K)

From what I gathered while living in Dublin, Gaelic Football is the sport most people play themselves, but many people watch footy still (and there's loads of lads walking around in liverslip jerseys)

Not even from Dublin.

Yea Forums needs a GAA general desu

We need to start a grassroots campaign where anyone in Ireland caught wearing the shirt of an English club gets bullied into supporting a local team instead.

Well then your ignorance is even more inexcusable.

I think the thread would die pretty quickly. But should get threads going for big games, particularly ones on sky that johnny foreigners can watch.

>not even in their own country
Literally hundreds of thousands of people go to watch an amateur sport that only their country plays. What the fuck are you talking about you retarded yank?

You say ignorance I say realism. Go to any pub and see what they advertise. Premier League games. Not GAA. Even the super small town pubs do this.

>Not even in their own country
These sports are pretty big here. The GAA has the country by the balls desu. Did you know that if you play at a high level, you will get cushy jobs through nepotism and will be given a lot of leeway when applying for places at university?

Take tips from the Mexican lads, outside of matchdays they just post cheerleaders to keep people interested in their league.

>Premier League games
This thread is about sport in Ireland, not armchair autists watching foreign TV shows.

Yea Forums needs less generals, not more

>mfw Connolly comes back to secure the 5 in a row

Attached: dubs.png (598x399, 224K)

True, but Yea Forums needs more Irish shitposters. We miss you.

My great grandpa was named McKay, do I count?

Sounds Scottish to me. But the Scots are a sound bunch of lads (apart from the no surrender gimps)

BIG JOCK KNEW

It's a shame that Dublin are ruining the beauty of a pure amateur competition like GAA.

Also up the ra

The might Dubs are raising the standard country wide. They have already eliminated bus parking and hoofball. If you want to dine with the Dubs you better play some decent football.
God bless Jim Gavin, he even has Mickey Harte playing attractive football now

Honestly this. Dublin are easily the most entertaining team to watch, I'm glad they dab on the blanket defense shit and hoof it up to Aidan O'Shea shit

I like a bit of hoofball if it's stuff you worked on in training. Accurate long balls to your target man. But the old school hoofball that boomers talk about being great to watch was pure shite. Just aimlessly hacking it as far you can

>Gaelic is going through a popular phase right now because Dublin (the biggest population center by far) are winning.
It's going through the opposite in terms of public interest actually because of that, as well as the negative tactics.

Why do you say such stupid things?

Shut up D*blin rats

How often do GAA games get shown on TV and do Athlone have a team? My mam's from there and if I'm going to bandwagon it may as well be for a half-decent reason.

Brainlet post.

Athlone is a town, so it definitely has at least one club, but you'd probably be best following the county, Westmeath.

For me it's Kerry legend Mick O'Dwyer

Are >we good?

I'm not even from Dublin chum, I just don't begrudge them any success because I like their style of play

it's all the same shit outside of London so sure

Not really. Westmeath are probably like Middlesborough or West Brom.

My ancestors are from Westmeath

For me...its tyrone

They used to have an IRA donation collection at the St Paddys day parades I went to

My local football club is non league so that doesn't bother me.

I bask in the bogger jealousy and begrudgery. They can't handle the fact that the soccerball county have the best gaa team of all time.

Attached: dubs.jpg (960x551, 114K)

Irish Americans and Irish expats are hardcore republican. More so than most living over here. Great bunch of lads

hurling and football are the two most popular sports outside of cities and football is just as popular as soccer and more popular than rugby in Dublin. hurling has had an upswing there over recent years too.

It really doesn't. Shitizen alone does enough damage to our image on here as it is.

nobody else plays gaelic or hurling why would they care

youtube.com/watch?v=FxXfZQP8CHM

also if i wanna talk about gaelic or hurling i'll go down to the pub not post on Yea Forums with a bunch of foreigners who need the rules explained to them

Attached: 1484958100418.jpg (1111x597, 379K)

I've always though Gaelic should be adopted in foreign countries as a unisex PE sport in schools desu since it's so easy to play

Ireland doesnt really have any culture or national identity left since they stopped being Catholic. They are basically just Britain 2.0 right now.

We are now the Neo-colonial American Township of Nigeria

Cork people are the soundest people in Ireland. Followed by Galway. With the West Brit filthy Dublin last.

As opposed to *scandinavian nation no.3*

Every time I have to go to a match in Dublin my heart sinks getting off the train in Heuston knowing some junkie is gonna ask me for a fag/20c. A fucking shit hole.

Which of these meme handegg sports is the best? And why?
>gaelic
>australian
>rugby
?

Gaelic uses a football

looks similar in style, who cares about the shape of the ball

Well like 3/4 of their entire population left like 100 years ago

all british culture is derived from american culture. american culture is dominated by irish-americans

Did you see the documentary thy did on him last year. Up there with the best 30 for 30s

You seem to care since you called it handegg
I like all 3 sports. AFL is like gaelic on cocaine

The fact that hurling is so commonly played all around the country is actually a big source of pride for me. Unique completely amateur sport, free for anyone to join clubs, sport with historical traditions etc.

It's also the most fun and entertaining sport imo.

So yeah this thread is poor bait. Gaelic football and hurling are the most popular sports in Ireland. Rugby and soccer are also popular though.

Only really know rugby so ill say, american handegg

>It's also the most fun and entertaining sport imo.
Hurling is fun to play but it's not a great spectacle to watch desu. Little variation in the tactics of teams compared to other sports like football and the fact that it's easy to score from so far out makes the game a little broken. Still nice to hit a sliotar about with your friend on a sunny day though

true of every western country including yours

I think it's the complete opposite and the electric pace, reliance on skill and guile and the potential high-scoring nature of the game is what makes it so exciting. The only thing that might make it better is allowing players to handle the ball more than twice at some level.

I don't watch sports for the "tactics", what is even the point in that. Players play the game, not formations.

What? On weekends pubs are stacked with people watching hurling and gaelic football. You see dozens of people walking in the streets with hurling bats (which is quite scary when you don't know about it).

>reliance on skill
There is less room to differentiate yourself with skill in hurling than in football I think
>I don't watch sports for the "tactics", what is even the point in that. Players play the game, not formations.
The variation in tactics between teams is what makes these sports interesting, the contrast the different play styles. Team sports are played by teams, not individuals. Of course, that's not to say that I can't acknowledge an outstanding individual performance

>it’s only popular because it’s popular

we’ve got the next best thing right here

All-Ireland final gets outdrawn by any given Ireland world cup game.

Unbiased opinion. Gaelic fixed all of soccers problems.

Because Gaelic football is a fucking ass sport, and Hurling while a good sport, is bogged down by the people who run it and the players overhyping their self importance

Isn't it pretty much guaranteed that Dublin will perennially be a contender and will probably win most years? They just have a much bigger pool of potential players to draw from

We are the current gaelic football world champions

Attached: 1490924536432.jpg (342x345, 15K)

No it doesn't. Croke Park has a higher capacity than Lansdowne Rd and both sell out for those matches. I'm also assuming you're referring to soccer world cup qualifiers.

Do Irish people who watch American sports like Boston teams? What are their thoughts on the Celtics?

I like the Bruins, but I fucking hate the Pats probably unfairly because of bandwagon fans, Sox I'm ambivalent towards but I like the green monster. Celtics are alright, there's also some soccer teams over this side called Celtic and they're ok too. Some Irish have lived in America and support the local teams they find there, mostly NYC desu, some live over there, don't like the local teams/fans so they root for out of town teams or any team they make a friend of who is also a fan of that team. I've friends here who bandwagoned the in the NFL Seattle and New England, another is a Raiders fan because she worked in New York and hates Giants fans and made friends with some dude from California or something. I don't think that we necessarily see Boston teams as ours because of the Irish connection but we do see Glasgow Celtic as ours for that same reason.

Hurling is based
Gaelic is boring if you've played aussie rules footy, which stole all the good parts of it and rugby

Gaelic is still better than soccer though. Hurling is the sport of kings and I hope you get to see some over the summer, which is your winter. All-Ireland stuff gets real good around July into August.

yeah I watch it a bit online, my parents are both irish and I often put it on for them to watch

and yeah I'd agree, soccer is shithouse

80000 would never go to watch a shithouse soccer ball game in Dublin. Gaa is king in Ireland

You sound like fun. Chin up fella life isn't so bad.

In the USA amateur women doing the gay lick is a whole genre of porn videos.

Hurling is much less popular fetish stuff.

And snooker is the deceptive action of the websites to entice you into giving a credit card to see special content. They'll snooker your money from ya to get beyond the paywall.

Are you retarded?

>even a single drop of plastic blood in you
grim

If you are Irish and support an English club, you are officially worthless trash.

>it will be equivalent to hurling
Hurling is really popular where I live

Na he meant a Qualifier.

We had some really popular hurling threads last year for the big matches

Hurling is absurdly entertaining. You don't know what you are talking about. Nothing comes close when it's played well.

Our Irish sporting culture is weird because it's divided between our two sports, Gaelic Football and Hurling. Like 3 or 4 out of the 32 Counties have a culture of playing both, while most of the rest of the country plays either one or the other. They're both plenty popular in the country, and the All-Ireland always draws big crowds

donkey racing gets loads of spectators
youtube.com/watch?v=8XtVm8z28e4

I maintain that a top level football match is the most entertaining sporting spectacle. Something like a good World Cup or Champions League tie. Hurling is good for betting on in-play though, since teams can easily comeback

That's because you're a west brit faggot from dublin.

I read in the book "How The Irish Saved Civilization" that the Irish used to suck each others nipples as a greeting before St. Patrick put an end to it

Why are you trying to politicize things for no reason? You should like watching a sport based on the rules and gameplay of it, not what country it's from. Just because I'm Irish, I'm not going to pretend that I find Gaelic or hurling more interesting than football

As I said: you're a west brit faggot from dublin

t. actual Brit

You said this like being a traitorous little rat is the same as being a nationalist. Imagine being as fucking retarded as you.

Right boys enough of the bickering
There's an actual big game on this weekend, The League final. Kerry vs Mayo

A rematch of a few weeks ago when Mayo won handily. But Big Dave Clifford is back for Kerry. Mayo are good in Croke Park and will basically have a home crowd support. Also Kerry's defence is still shite. It's a Mayo win for me

Attached: Il3hzo7.png (798x188, 10K)

>"Why are you trying to politicize things for no reason?"
The official motto of Irish sport.

Literally this. People here seem to care more about off-the-pitch issues than on-the-pitch

pipe down west brit

Why are you using the WWW? That's a British invention

>why is a brit using a british invention
You're mentally disabled, west brit.

I agree about sccer being amazing when It's played really well. about half the matches in knockout rounds of the champions league are absolute bangers.
Still though championship hurling, particularly the munster games, are the most reliably entertaining sporting fixtures.
Both soccer and hurling are uniquely brilliant, in that the best games are like physical poetry. Hurling feels more like a battle of wills.

Am an exchange student here in Dublin and I went to see Bohemian FC vs Shamrock Rovers derby which was great fun. Quality of football is god awful but that’s actually what makes it great, no diving and the players were hard as fuck.

go back where you came from

Gaelic sports are shite. I mean, hurling and 'football' are basically the same fucking thing anyway.

Irish society is not totally devoid of its merits, but these shitty excuses for sports should be consigned to the dustbin of history.

>Hurling feels more like a battle of wills.
Good way of putting it. Watching hurling, it feels like the teams differentiate themselves by simply trying harder than the other, as they constantly go at each other. Hence, the lead can often switch between the 2 teams. Whereas in football, one team can take a beating from the other team but still win if they counter attack well. There are probably tactical nuances and stuff in hurling that I'm not picking up on though. The ball moves a lot faster so it's harder to tell

How did you find the atmosphere in the ground?

Really? But aren't the Irish white? I thought that white people were awesome by virtue of their skin colour. Are you telling me that they, too, had to be civilised?

>I mean, hurling and 'football' are basically the same fucking thing anyway.
you might have a mental disability mate.

I'm pretty sure you guys weren't doing anything of note until the Romans came to town.

judging by his referral to "white people" in the third person, I'm going to assume his people still shit in streets to this very day.

I'm not knocking the Irish, i'm knocking the idea that whiteness makes you great,

you and your entire family are literally the colour of shit and smell like it too

I'm not criticising white people, you buttmad idiot. I am white, by the way. Irish, in fact.

the English weren't doing anything if note after the Romans arrived either, they were busy being in Germania

too much ass

Resorting to that tired 'you're a Muslim or and Indian' shtick doesn't make you right.

Again, you seem to have a problem with comprehension. I'm not criticising white people, i'm criticising the idea that whiteness, by virtue, makes you great.

People say faggot in Britain. Even if they didn't, there's nothing wrong with him saying that on Yea Forums. People who type in vernacular instead of typing like a standard user are cringe. UK and Irish flags tend to be bad for this

Starting next month there will be quite a few televised hurling games of the upmost quality.
There should be streams available if you ask around.

I criticised the UK as well for this though

Might want to steer clear of that one. The Raiders are a black people team. The vast majority of their fanbase are minorities

Both are football

Jaysus this car crash thread. I just want to discuss gaa lads.
Go to boards - get mod warning for misspelling a word
Go to hoganstand - its all anti Dubs
Go to gaaboard - get recruited by the IRA
Read MSN on gaa - its all anti gaa propaganda

If you want actual discussion, then your best bet is a match thread when there are teams playing. This thread was always destined to be off-the-pitch political bullshit

Any Irish here wanna give me the intro into Gaelic Football, looks pretty fun.

15 v 15, incl. one goalkeeper per team, can catch the ball or chip it up to your hands from the ground, can pass by kicking the ball or punching it out of your other hand, kicking the ball into the net is a goal (3 points) and over the bar but between the posts is a point (1 point). You can only run with the ball for 4 steps (or more like a reasonable amount until the ref thinks you fouled) before you either bounce the ball on the ground or kick it back into your hands (a solo), and you can't bounce it twice in a row.

Right now it's
>lol Dublin wins

Cringed hard

When I was in Ireland everyone was drinking Guinness what are you on about?

>Go to gaaboard - get recruited by the IRA

Go to the TRUE capital of Ireland and you see that we only drink Smithwicks or Murphys

I wish I could watch Gaelic football here in Portugal. But it's nearly impossible.

There's this if you have money:

Also lots of the big games are on free to air tv here and there's this but it's geoblocked:

Or you can probably find a live stream on the matchday too. We had some nice matchday threads last year during the All-Ireland playoffs.

how will a hard border affect gaa

Attached: D21JZyjX4AAxd34.jpg (820x492, 101K)

Sounds based. Thanks

There will be no hard border no matter happens.

Army/RUC hassling people on their way to Clones again.

Incidentally, Ulster moved their stadium from Belfast to Clones specifically to get it out of the north during the Troubles. But it's literally -just- over the border, and most games there would involve teams from the north. Since interest in Gaelic Football was a big red flag to the sectarian bull of a police force and militia we had, they always gave people grief when going to games with identity checks, searches etc.

The silly thing about NYC GAA is that they play in the All-Ireland championship and get hammered every year, yet other US cities with a proper county structure don't get this right.

They should be playing the likes of Boston, Chicago and Philly, and then maybe have a challenge match against a Tema from Ireland every year as an independent event and moneyspinner.
