I was 24. I remember I watched the opening ceremony on a TV in a bar, while visiting my old university housemates. I thought it looked pretty good and made a mental note to look it up again when I got home.

When I was a child, I had a football that was official merchandise for the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
I remember the Freddie Mercury "Barcelona" song for the 1992 Olympics.
The 1996 Atlanta Olympics are the first ones I remember properly.
I did not pay attention to the 2000 or 2004 Olympics at all, but I know 2004 was Athens because I have a CD of the music from the opening ceremony.
2008 was probably the GOAT; I fell asleep during the opening ceremony due to jet lag after coming back from America, and missed what is supposedly the greatest ever opening ceremony.
I don't remember much of the 2016 Olympics; was that the one where that hurdler posed for the cameras then fell over?
