yes, but with globalisation there is more research into techniques into dealing with opposition players. you can argue more fouls/protection for attackers make it easier but players in the 60s/70s had 3-4 seconds to get the ball under control and look up before a defender got close to them, whereas a modern attacker has 1-2 seconds at max before a defender is hassling him, making it far harder for one player to shine
