Speaking of Japanese baseball in general, ebbets field flannels has a surprising amount of retro NPB/Japan baseball merch. Especially for teams that don't exist anymore/merged. I'm going to eventually buy this jersey, even though I'm more of a hanshin and orix guy.
Pricing is expensive, but not unreasonable. Hats are normally $40-50 USD. Jersey's cost $200 flat, but the product is legit reproductions from pretty much every era. They also have shirts and shit.
I think it's a bit of romanticism by watchers of Koshien and coaches. Everyone loved the Yoshida story last year and the famous aces of the past like Matsuzaka and Saito, regardless of the actual effect on their pitching arms.
Carson Barnes
not just it, but pitch limits means look for more pitchers and for some schools can be problematic beacuse it requires more players as minimum
Luis Baker
Lol. One-run double play.
Caleb Russell
In that case it makes it even harder for small schools to compete. I'd rather just extend the tournament and give more rest days. I think the problem is more the lack of rest between starts rather than the amount of pitches thrown.
Jaxon Sanchez
>I'd rather just extend the tournament and give more rest days this what they will do during summer
it will have an pause day between quarters and samis and another between semis and final
So wiki says that Osaka Toin were champions. Did they do it as underdogs or favourites? Why were they not invited for this tourney? That's so unfair because there's no chance for a dynasty to be created.
Riseisha Seiryo looks pretty good. Riseisha (Tetsuto Yamada's old school) is basically the second best team in Osaka after Toin. Seiryo is a Koshien regular and Hideki Matsui's old team. Others include Meio (Oita) v Yokohama(Kanagawa) and Koryo (Hiroshima) v Hachinohe Kosei Gakuin (Aomori)
No. Their whole team graduated last year. And they're a public school which happened to get lucky with a good generation.
Parker Bennett
Generally the teams you will see every year are large private schools who dominate their prefecture (Yokohama, Osaka Toin, Koryo, Chiben Wakayama, Seiko Gakuin, etc)
Leo Moore
I thought Toin didn't make it this time?
Jayden Rodriguez
Yeah, that's why it's more unpredictable this time. But Toin have won like 4 Summer Koshiens since 2008 and like 2 or 3 Spring Koshiens. And they pretty much make both tournaments almost every year.
William Anderson
who is the guy from Toin the Fighters drafted this year?
Great throw by Inoue to put out runner at third The pitcher Kakigi. The news have actually tried to build up the friendship between Yoshida and Kakigi (both drafted as high school pitchers, faced off against each other in Koshien final, always seem to hang out together)
Seiryo (Ishikawa) batting lineup- 8-Shouji (CF) 7-Arimatsu (LF) 5-Chida (3B) 6-Uchiyama (SS) 2-Yamase (C) 1-Okugawa (P) 3-Fukumoto (1B) 9-Okada (RF) 4-Yamamoto (2B) Okugawa getting a lot of hype from scouts. Tops out at 150kmh/93mph. Already appeared at two Koshiens and did pretty well.
Justin Price
Seiryo looks good
Bentley Baker
they won as favorites dont qualified beacuse they chocked in october regionals and got out of Spring Koshien (spring is an tournament that is 99% inventional, the only qualy spot is given to winnter of Meiji Tournament that was sapporo otani)
Kayden Clark
80s were an random time in JPop
Jose Cruz
Weathernews says that there will have some rain between 16 and 18
depending of pace of game maybe we will have early called game or the rest of game played at night
Jackson Roberts
when was the Meiji Tourney?
Jacob Brown
Yoahida was fantastic. I wish his arm wasn't dead when the final came around
Softbank have had a talking dog and a black guy in their "Family" ad for years. The talking dog is the father of the family (which also includes Aya Ueto (arguably the most famous actress in Japan))
Dylan Martinez
and yes, otosan is the owner of an family that has an american adopted son
James Watson
in the series of ads, she "married" the actor Ryoma Takeuchi (aka Kamen Rider Drive actor) that is considerated one of the most popular and sexy actors in japan nowdays
Christian Cooper
about the rain, so far the radar says that is passing by lot in the north (is even snowing in some regions) but so far Koshien area is safe of rain/snow for now
Nathaniel Nguyen
there is an rain cloud coming to koshien region but it will take around an hour, probablly will come mins after the end of the game
Adrian Jones

Easton Lopez
Okugawa (Seiryo pitcher) now with 11 Ks and only 1 hit in 6 innings.
Ayden Nguyen
oof, guess I'll wait until the next spring koshien
Ian Ross
Risei sucks
Isaac Green
if Risei is like this, imagine Toin right now lol.
Wyatt Adams
will the streak finally die?
Austin Cook
since they arent in spring, the streak is already dead
but back-to-back summer will depends of lot of factors

Camden Foster

Damn I really like watching this pitcher. I'll have my eye on them in the later brackets
Ryder Howard
Yep I attended that game. Was last game of the day too, so primetime. Okugawa stats 130 pitches, 3 hits, 17 ks and only one walk. Really impressed by his breaking stuff as well as his velocity.
Zachary Scott
>130 pitches yeah his arm surelly will be dead as fuck in finals
Adrian Campbell
That kids emotion is stuck in my head due to me rewatching that video throughout last summer and leading up to this spring. Havent heard this years song yet, waiting for more commercials with turtle houses and ball cream
Yokohama Batting Lineup 3-Utsumi (2B) (.417 average in 2018 Koshien, 1 HR) 6-Tsuda (SS) 8-Koizumi (CF) 13-Yoshihara (1B) 7-Tomita (LF) 1-Oyokawa (P) 9-Oote (RF) 2-Yamaguchi (C) 5-Shouji (3B) Oyokawa is one of the top pitching prospects in the country, even had hype last year as a second-year at Summer Koshien. Tops out at 153kmh/95mph!
Aaron Reyes
aussie bro, what you were doing? i missed you
Samuel Long
Things to do this morning. Meiho (Oita) Batting Lineup 4-Omote (2B) 6-Miyagawa (SS) 7-Fuse (CF) 5-Nobe (3B) (.405 batting average in HS Career) 9-Yabuta (RF) 12-Aochi (1B) 2-Narita (C) 1-Wakasugi (P) (Tops out at 139kmh/86mph) 3-Nogami (LF)
Christian Hill
btw did you saw the headbunt?
Jordan Rodriguez
Lol. Perfect example of what can go wrong will go wrong! I wonder if Yokohama is gonna choke like this again youtube.com/watch?v=dI_jJ2NlFwk
Jaxon Richardson
Baffling decision by one of the Meio infielders during that steal which resulted in a run. Should have just let the second baseman take it, even if he stole the base.
Brandon Hall
Also what a weird song by Meiho. Sounds like a 80s j-pop ballad
Landon Hill
are you sure isnt U S A ?
Jackson Perry
Nah, I was talking about the school song they did during the break in innings
Easton Ortiz
>mfw you need to use pip beacuse fucking chrome doesnt shows the image of the game when you change tabs and comes back after x mins
Bentley Mitchell

Jaxson Jones

Dylan Bailey
It was their outfielder. And it was a foul
Cameron Ross

Bentley Perry
Oyokawa coming apart we got a game on our hands

Jack Bailey
LOL! Oyokawa pitches the ball about halfway through the ground. MELTDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aaron Jenkins
how old is Oyokawa? can we laugh at him for that cricket pitch
Adam Allen
lmao they are taking thier ace out
Ryan Roberts
>Japanese pitchers need pitch counts. They pitch too much. >Meltsdown and concedes 5 in the 3rd inning
Hunter Baker
11-Matsumoto now pitching for Yokohama
Dominic Howard
what a comeback
Justin Hughes
that zoom in on Oyokawa haha
Matthew Martinez
>When you concede 5 runs so you can pitch fresh in the next game.
They're the second most illustrious school in Japan after Toin. Famous graduates include Matsuzaka, Tsutsugo(Baystars), Kensuke Kondo(Fighters), Wakui (Lions/Marines) and Naruse(Marines/Swallows.
this school song sounds like some 80-90s love tune
Jaxon Williams
buzz cuts are apparently mandatory i guess
Oliver Davis
Sounds like they are singing the ED to some 80's mecha anime
David Adams
Auther is pop singer
Liam Phillips
they play lot of cultural musics From video games to the pop song that was blasted so much to the point that user say that he prefers commit suddoku than listen the original version of song again
Michael Campbell
it goes with the stuff i said they are heavly based in sacrifice and giving your best for your community (aka school)
Yonago Higashi (Tottori) Batting lineup 6-Okamoto (SS) 8-Yamauchi (CF) 1-Morishita (P) 3-Fukushima (1B) 4-Fukushima (2B) 9-Toki (RF) 2-Nagao (C) 7-Honda (LF) 5-Moroya (3B) Correction, there's two Fukushimas. May be brothers or something
Easton Carter
>Saito the “handkerchief prince” threw a staggering 948 pitches over 68 innings >That’s one of the good things about Japanese and Japanese culture. Even if your shoulder, your elbow or lower back is damaged, we think the sacrifice can be a beautiful thing >Saito is just 15-24 with a 4.33 ERA in 76 games on the top level since debuting in 2011. >Some of it has been due to injuries, including some shoulder ailments lol doing some reading now, crazy stuff.
Leo Brown
you should read about Akita team last year and his ace
Going to bed soon but I'll back Yonago in this game because of leadoff's great hustle to first.
Aaron Phillips
Apart from a few spelling mistakes, all good. For everyone's reference public schools usually end in either a direction (Higashi, Nishi, Minami, Kita) or a vocational focus (Shogyo, Kogyo, Nogyo). Schools with Dai (meaning they're connected to a university) or including Gakuen/Gakuin are always private schools.
Christian Gomez
thanks that was a good read. Wonder if the guys who went to uni and got hurt never fulfilling their potential regret it in private.
Cameron Walker
this one is good, i just dont like that yakyudb use the romanji names than the official english names of the team, so this why i prefer do an guide by myself than wait for DB one
Justin Walker
god dammit
Evan Gray
well, after high school there multiple ways to play in Japan
Some go to NPB/Farm, others goes to college and others goes to industrial baseball
Kayden Robinson
literally who can stop shotani?
Zachary Price
DINGER
Jordan Wood
OHTANI PAWA dinger number 2 of Senbatsu
Bentley Jones
SHOTIME!
Grayson Ortiz
DONG
Even the pitcher was impressed lmao
Aw shit, but thanks for proof-reading.
Jordan Perry
LITERALLY ichiro
Jacob Sanchez
why i would knew that Shohei Ohtani jokes would start? lmao
Jayden Butler
Yuki Saito is the prime example of this. 3 years of burning out his arm playing in a league he was clearly too good for. By the time he reached the pros he was burnt out. Shimabukuro (Konan ace in 2010, barely played for Hawks) is another example.
Michael Foster
>Shohei Ohtani played for Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in Sapporo >Sapporo Ohtani qualify by winning Meiji tournament >Shohei Ohtani wins AL Rookie of the Year Sapporo Ohtani- Spring Champions confirmed.
Bentley Taylor
imagine a whole team of goatani-sama, how is this fair
Logan Williams
FINE PLAY

Kayden Perry
Pretty embarassing error by the Yonago Higashi shortstop, goes straight through his legs.
