This. I would watch college football if the NCAA got its shit together and actually made it into an organized league. Cuz whenever I watch i’m like “why the fuck should I even care”

The fact that a separate organization has to handle playoffs for the NCAA is embarrassing

The uil is simple: organized into a power of two conferences (32 for the uil, the ncaa could use 16), you play 10 games total and you play each conference opponent once. You non-conference wins and losses do not count against you making the playoffs. This means that great games happen early in the year, and most coaches do not shy away from scheduling giant killers. This can mean that your real season to make the playoffs can be between 3 games (really small conferences in Texas sometimes exist) and 10 games (there have been 11 team conferences). Most conferences are 8 teams large meaning that your non-conference schedule lasts only 3 games.

The ncaa could do similar. This would mean that LSU would have a pretty cake conference, but then you could seed the playoffs by ranking the conference winners (and possibly the runner ups) if you wanted a 16 or 32 team playoff. I’d imagine that the first Saturday of the NCAA playoffs would make for a lot of televised games (16 total). Would be fun way to do things #1 vs #32, then next week #1 vs winner of #16v17, then #1 vs winner #8v#9, then 1v4, then 1v2.

I think awarding home games to higher ranked seeds would encourage more difficult non-conference opponents. You’d discourage cup cake schedules, increase attendance league wide, and better distribution of talent would result from running college football like the UIL does.
