Sounds like you haven't been watching Salah play. Last season he was getting double and triple marked yet still scored while this season he has slowed down his scoring pace considerably and it's not because more resources are being put to stop him. If you watch him play, you can see he has lost some confidence, taking wild shots and fluffing easier chances (1v1s with keeper, etc.). He clearly wants to score and keeps trying, but the desperation isn't helping him improve his form.

His biggest flaw in his game right now is his lack of right foot. The second Salah touches a ball, I can tell where he's going with it. 100% of the time. And so, defenders know they just need to stand between him and the goal, preventing a cut inside and they nullify him. Last season he'd move into shooting positions that only worked with the right foot, but then had the confidence to score with his left anyway while in those positions, which always caught players off-guard. Think of the goal against Spurs, where they were guarding the far-post shooting angle the whole time and he slipped in nearpost instead. He doesn't do that anymore. Probably due to lack of confidence.
