My urban high school hasn't had a hockey team in decades. Demographics have eliminated inner city high school hockey. For some reason Somalians and Hmong kids don't play sports with hundreds of dollars in starting costs.

I think you're right about being nice or thugs. My Hmong coworkers have been the hardest working coworkers I've ever had. Makes sense that refugees that are coming to the United States because they can no longer live in their homeland because they were fighting for the United States are hardworking and nice people. Small schools still sometimes win the state championship but it is rarer. Suburban schools just have so much more money for coaching and they train year round since they're young. In all high school sports in general there is a bigger gap between those who train year round and those who play several sports throughout the year.
