An open letter to Ted
First of all, as a huge fan of everything you and cameraman Pete have accomplished, let me offer to you my most sincere condolences for this terrible tragedy. That someone could do such a thing, and to such a hero, leaves me simply confounded. I cannot fathom what pettiness might drive a pay TV station to such a despicable act, and I fear that I would lose my sanity were I to try.
It pained me very deeply to hear the news, as I imagine it must have pained many of us - but I know that must be nothing compared to what you and Pete must be feeling today. To that end, let me say this: take all the time you need. Of course your community will be anxiously awaiting any news you might have as to exactly what occurred, what it means, and what the consequences for Ted’s Notebook might be. However, we (and I do feel I speak for the community here) understand completely the situation you are in, and will wait patiently for as long as it takes until you are ready to communicate with us. We supported you before, we support you now, and we will support you always.
Finally, let me state what, I hope, will be painfully obvious to all of you: if there is anything - anything at all - that I or anyone else in this community can do to help you in this darkest hour, you simply MUST tell us. For you, you who have walked through fire to bring us the Notebook we had no right to ask of you, I feel confident in saying we would march to the gates of Hell and back if it could provide you some small modicum of assistance.
We are a community. We work together, we play together, we watch together. Victories are sweetened and defeats softened because we did them together. You never abandoned us, so don't think for one second that any of us would ever abandon you. We stand with you, now and always, and we will gladly help you up when you stumble.
With love, respect, admiration, and hope, I remain
Sincerely yours,
