I used to play pro volleyball and often times I was asked how the fuck I knew a serve would go in or out with good accuracy. Turns out we're aware of how the ball travels and where the field of play is, it becomes natural. The goalkeeper will know where the posts are naturally, and thus it will be pretty hard to hit the head in the post.
If you don't believe me, blindfold yourself tonight when going to sleep and when you wake up, tell yourself you won't take the blindfold out and go to the bathroom. You won't smack your head on a wall, trust me.
