Makes sense.
AFL is the most popular sport in Australia not cricket
okay "john"
It has the highest viewership and attendance numbers than any other sport in Australia, Sven
What the fuck is Gaelic football?
Go watch some highlights, it's actually pretty based.
This map is not completely accurate
At least 2,5 billion people don't like footy. That's a huge ass amount.

Fuck cricket and fuck ping pong

Football used to be seen as a hooligan game until the late 19th century.
Before that, Cricket was the "proper" sport to enjoy, and is still relatively popular here. Football is more of an opiate for the masses.
what you goin on about m8?
America, Canada (the hat of America), Australia (upside down), and New Zealand (the cane of Australia).
>American Alliance of Faggots
>Football is more of an opiate for the masses
Isn't that true for all sports, genius? Cricket is just boring. AFL and rugby are more popular here.
Not necessarily. You have far less of the tribalism with cricket, rugby, and all the rest. It's "norf fc" and "souf fc" for a reason, after all.
"No"
AFL isn't even the name of the sport you fucking mong that's the league
lmoa fuck up
Thank you OP for the based picture. I had a Lativan and a Lithuanian flatmate who seriously told me that football and basketball are globally equally relevant and basketball players are better paid.
>basketball players are better payed
they are
What does your post have to do with his stupid monkey
>unironically replying to 7-1s
Don't do that.
Try harder, you can figure it out. I believe in you.
Because basketball is 5/side and football is 11/side. So an NBA team can afford to stack all it's money on 6-7 players at most, and only needs to pay 18 on an entire roster compared to the 30+ in a football squad (which will include literallywho youth players). Not really a fair comparison.

Shouldn't population be taken into account here? USA is a much bigger country than Spain or England
That's what people call AFL in NSW. We call rugby "football" here.
Take population into account, but include foreign customers.
always wondered, do australians and indians realise that barely anyone in the UK even gives a shit about cricket?
this 'nationwide' rivalry is literally just with asians and posh twats
Yes we know that. Cricket is the 3rd most popular sport here as well. This is a footie country.
NBA has a lot of foreign customers too. A lot of people in Australia watch NBA.
The sport is called Australian rules football like how rugby is called rugger football
>UAE not falconry or camel racing
fucking retard
Imagine having fucking CRICKET as your national sport
nice post brainlet
I know what it's called, but no one says that here in NSW.
Footie is rugby, Australian rules football is referred to as Aussie rules or AFL because we don't care about it.
This site says it's cricket
theroar.com.au
This site says it's football (soccer) when it comes to participants
theworldgame.sbs.com.au
Viewership is the most important number not participation. You can shoot hoops or kick a ball without really knowing the sports rules or supporting a team.
The popularity of cricket is wildly overrated. It gets a lot of casual support for 2 months in summer up against the A-League and NBL, and then it fades into complete irrelevance. It'd get utterly BTFO if it had to go h2h against the football codes.
>club sport top activities (adults and children combined)
Yes football is very popular as a casual sport here especially with children but thread is about viewing and attending professional sports. People watch and attend cricket, rugby and Aussie rules football here more than football/soccer.
That article has no statistics. It is an opinion piece.
truly the boreball of australia
meant is an opinion piece with no statistics
>per capita
This is what I can find.
>Separately, official audience data shows that 93.6% of Australians watched at least some cricket on TV in 2010–11 calendar year.[3]
That doesn't mean it is the most popular sport.
Read this: en.wikipedia.org
Found this
>According to market research, the AFL is the second-most-watched sporting event in Australia, behind cricket.[67]
>en.wikipedia.org
That article is from 2012 mate. MLS revenue has doubled since then and France's NT is black.
Gaelic football and hurling are genuinely top tier sports
and that's the wrong name for the sport
why are you arguing this point
Anyone know why baseball is the big sport in Nevada?
except the difference with the football codes is that it's popular across the whole country not half of it
>NFL
yikes
Don't tell me what to call a sport basically

I think this is true now. Football is dying in Korea.

rugby world cup final is the second most viewed if i recall correctly.
>one definition of rugby
don't think either league is the most important in NZ or union is the most popular in Papua New Guinea
Pretty sure cricket would be above that just because of India
But Mayweather didn't even fight in 2018. What is this shit?
I highly doubt it
I think it's old, also is wrong
A few players in the Chinese league make more money than Messi and Ronaldo
100 people in a village watching on a single sanyo projector tv doesn't fucking count
For it's popularity and the size of the country, Russia is really shit at soccer.
>A few players in the Chinese league make more money than Messi and Ronaldo
statista.com
WHY do NBA players make so much??
Hockey's fanbase is smaller but much much richer, soccer has a much much bigger fanbase.
What is it about the NBA that warrants these salaries??
>and the size
If that was relevant then Canada should be expected to be elite at multiple sports
size as in population, Messi
Japan has more people and they suck at all sports
Russia started existing as a football team in the 90s, the USSR were pretty good, like a Belgium/Croatia from this decade
Out of date. Rugby has spent the last decade in decline so Football is now the most popular NZ sport by participation. (Basketball has made the biggest gains in recent times but it's still behind.)
lol
Anytime I see this I get reminded how based Estonia is
Cricket is the most popular sport in Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Also the most popular sport among people in a South Africa who matter (whites and middle class blacks)
Our version of football existed 20 years before soccer was codified.
Cricket gets better tv ratings and crowd attendance than AFL. The only AFL game that can beat cricket is the Grand Final which is not a good comparison due to the finals format that cricket doesn't have. A single test match has a bigger combined audience than the Grand Final anyway, kek. Also no one in NSW or QLD watches AFL.
Keep in mind I say this is someone from WA who watches footy religiously. It's true not many people in Australia would have cricket as their #1 sport, but its watched by EVERY state in summer making it overall more popular than AFL or NRL.
Soccer is utterly irrelevant.
