Part of it is that sports games are much more expensive in America, and going to an away game generally takes a lot more time and investment because of how spread out our major cities are compared to in the UK (unless you support a team from another city and go when they visit your home team). People are generally more chill and respectful because if they get thrown out of a game, they wasted a lot of money and potentially time.
There are exceptions, though. Fans of the Oakland Raiders and Philadelphians in general are infamous for being rowdy, drunk, and violent during sports games.
