Literally the same thing as baseball, just introduce a hard salary cap like the NFL, then you actually have parity and any small market can compete with the biggest markets instead of whiny superstars deciding league power structure

Change the draft order to this, for non-playoff teams:
the number of wins each team achieves once they are eliminated from the playoffs.
For playoff teams, go by order of elimination from the playoffs.

This way, a really crappy team that's eliminated early has more opportunity to get wins and earn a high draft spot, but middle of the road teams won't be able to steal a high pick. Plus, games between two crappy teams will be really-hard fought, since they won't get too many opportunities for wins.

To eliminate the superteams, just get rid of the max contract. Some team will always pay a ridiculous amount of money and you'll get superstars with their egos insisting that they be the highest-paid player on the team.

The NBA is unwatchable trash right now but literally all they would have to do is cut the league in a third, hell they could probably even cut it in half. Don't even need to touch the draft process or salary cap. They need to get rid of the ton of irrelevant/terrible teams and centralize talent. Cutting the schedule in half would also be great. Japanese baseball lottery would be better for the NBA than pure random. I don't think the current system needs to be changed for hockey or football because the tanking incentive isn't the same.

In japanese baseball lottery rules, every team gets one "bid" they can use, every player is randomly given to one of his bidding teams. If the league really thinks Zion is a generational talent, maybe he gets like 20 bids. Maybe it wouldn't be that many. It's a game of chicken, and if you think everyone's gonna pick Zion the other top guys are great value.

Collusion could work with teams that want lower ranked guys (we know we both scout the shit out of A and B, we bid for A, you bid for B) but it shouldn't be a factor with the top stars.

After the bidding phase is over and the top players are assigned to their teams, everyone else finishes the draft in normal reverse record order. If you're the Warriors your pick is pretty worthless if you don't get someone from the bidding phase, if you're the Knicks it's fine, so the better teams should back off the stars a little.
