I have to really wonder what kind of gutter human racing fan you would have to be to have seen the 2014 Cup cars in person then go to a 2019 race and not be massively disappointed.

Like I grew up with 360 sprint cars as a young kid and finally got to see 410s at Knoxville when I was 13 and that was so fucking amazing it made 360s disappointing since (thank fuck WoO came here for a few years until the "Deadmonton ruins everything" law kicked in), but this pussy shit is like being sold sportsman sprints or crate motor shitters or whatever as the top level of racing. Engines have to do a mandatory amount of mileage before being changed to reduce the inventory/rebuild budget for the manufacturers, so they also insist on running lower boost on ovals so they don't burn the things out from the higher full throttle time.

One of the weird considerations there is that they make sure their early year testing mileage adds up so they get a fresh engine for the 500.

Does NASCAR and NASCAR teams have any prominent non-American sponsors? Like whenever I see the liveries there it seems almost all the sponsors shown are American or otherwise have a strong presence in America (like Toyota).

Not as such, although the presence in the US is very small by comparison, only selling car oil and transmission fluid and at least when they started sponsoring Larson most of their business over here was supplying OEMs. They're also on the MotoGP Yamahas, since in Europe they also sell truck oil, motorcycle oil, brake fluid, antifreeze, etc., and of course in Japan they have a service station chain and the company is also involved in household utilities.

Pretty similar to NTT where it's a major, widespread company in Japan but only a small part of its business has been introduced into the US yet so they're willing to sponsor things to get the brand out.

DJ Kennington has managed to get a few goofball Canadian sponsors on his cars. A Northern Provincial Pipelines Cup Camry was sim racing levels of surreal absurdity. Like that's a local regional business whose owner basically bought himself his own class of junk ass dirt stock cars on the tracks around here for a few years before regular dirt late models rebuilt themselves and here is his plain text logo and ultra basic paint scheme out there with $50m race teams.

I think these are actually the closest thing I've ever seen to NASCAR trucks on dirt, which most dirt racing people would not take as a compliment. They did get old Blaney, Mikey, Schrader, and for some reason Sterling Marlin to drive these things once though.

What? The whole discussion is 20-24 degree banked cookie cutters with long turns like one they race at and several the IRL previously raced at. If you let the cars loose those tracks are as fast or faster than larger but flatter tracks like Indy and Fontana (and have continued to be in NASCAR) but in IndyCar you have to limit them to around a 23.5 lap time at 1.5 mile tracks or else the drivers become disoriented while you can keep going faster without problems on tracks with a higher percentage of straights and less banking.

Ergo high banks are not conducive to high speeds in IndyCar and it is unfair to criticize someone that doesn't want high banked ovals on the basis of speed.
