Of course there are examples of meaningless wankery in jazz. However if you listen to the greats: Django, Bill Evans, or Charles Mingus you would understand why jazz is so special to it's listeners. Even the guys who indulged in wankery such as Jaco, had tremendous musical ability and skill on their instruments.

I am a musician myself. My admiration of jazz comes from analyzing the music theory related aspects of jazz compositions and jazz improvisation. To be a good jazz musician, one takes years of practice, ear training and building of muscle memory. An argument you use is that much of jazz was performed by black musicians thus it must be decadent. However you seem to not acknowledge that some of the most influential jazz musicians were white, and used intensively classical music vocabulary in their work. Bill Evans, Michael Petrucciani, Keith Jarrett, Hiromi Uehara (contemporary jazz pianist) are great examples.
Also you mention that you enjoy music that "explores actual emotions". I don't see how this does not apply to jazz. Cool Jazz in particular stressed on this idea. Hear pretty much anything by Chet Baker. The intention of his music is often to evoke a sense of melancholy. Similarly Bill Evans used modern classical inspired techniques to create a sense of calm.

How would you define a work as genius? For instance, in my opinion Jaco Pastorius's "Portrait of Tracy" is genius.This is because of it's usage of natural harmonics on bass creating a unique timbre and also it's somber melody, and usage of interesting intervals.
