I've been enjoying his live sets recently. he understands the energy should be high, it can't just be weird noise forever. I used to be more dismissive of him, but his live shows prove his worth in my eyes. he also has the coolest taste in acid techno and experimental electronic. I don't really like Lorn, but he mixes it into his sets in a way that really works.

Where did I say I don't like his music? I like it just fine, but I very rarely listen to it anymore. I said he's primarily a 90s thing. The point was that it's very weird when people ride Aphex Twin TODAY like it's 1993-7. Again, it's not that you like him in 2019 that has anything to do with anything, it's riding the artist like it's his heyday. It's not. That era is over, long gone. Whatever he's put out since is not as definitive in any way. Some of it is good, sure, but that's about it. Maybe widen your discernment tendencies so you can understand what I'm talking about, and don't come at me with these non-sequiturs. This dude even took one of my chiptunes and made it a better track in the mid-90s era. And that's cool. Bad artists steal, great artists borrow and make it their own. even after countless hours of listening i have yet to find many ambient techno records that surpass SAW, but his classics record has some of the best acid/hardcore techno of all time.
as for idm made around or before him the only one(s) who even got close to his level were autechre. and most of the noteworthy idm came from his rephlex label

i think this is just a case of you lacking knowledge. his hardcore stuff is probably my favourite music by him but he is simply not on the same level as the likes of spiral tribe or unit moebius (as well as countless artists peripheral to these two, 69db especially)
