Disintegration Loops
arguably the most important release in its time.
now a footnote, a period piece, reminding us of how we reached the point we are at today.
ART CON JACKASS
This record has a picture of the fucking World Trade Center on fire on the cover, but it was recorded before that happened. Now, William Basinski is only too eager to tell you that the day after he recorded it, the Twin Towers got hit. So that must fuckin' mean something, right? And he played it over his speakers while he watched them burning. Are you fucking kidding me? This dude stamps a fucking picture of the biggest tragedy in fuckin' American history, arguably, on the cover of his album, and suddenly we're supposed to lend him the gravity of that event? For his bullshit loop music?
I mean, this guy is your typical Art Con jack-ass. He's going around, talking in these completely heady terms about what a fuckin' incredible, y'know, coincidence of the universe this was that all these things happened at once, and, y'know, 'the light pours out of me.' Get the fuck outta here! Plenty of people watched those towers burn — some of them were listening to Wham!, dude.
This is people who don't care about music as much as they care about the story. The story is what gets the 10.0 here. If you listen to this and you know anything about music, the backstory is, 'Oh, the ferrous magnetic tape was peeling off the reel....' Dude, it has a fuckin' echo on it! There's a fuckin' post-effected digital reverb on this thing! It might even be, like, an Alesis Wedge. This fuckin' thing is about as natural as a fuckin' Spice Girls song.
what?
Pretentious shit for wannabe music experts that suck each other's metaforical penis
This. Basinski is a hack who is profiting of 9/11 and the Disintegration Loops are 100% a meme.

ah yes this reminds me of 9/11 of course
it's so powerful. the tapes disintegrated just like the 9/11 towers... woowowwwww
Also, fuck 9/11, I'm not north American so I don't give actually a fucking shit about it
i live right by new york and i don’t care about 9/11
I imagine a gigantic William Basinski (pictured on the other half of the album art, seductively lounging in his Pete Burns makeup and dandy pirate shirt amidst the smoke like a modern-day Nero) tirelessly dry-humping the twin towers as they burn down, never breaking eye-contact with me while he does so.
I liked it until I saw the back cover.
