It is meant to work as a whole, so it's better listening to the full album
>little pop concept/opera >psychedelic inspired >peculiar female vocals >experimental and a bit weird >lots of woodwinds and mellotron sounds >old style inspired production >independent/home production
Really really cool songs so far. I am struggling with the out of tune / badly timed / poorly pronounced vocals. Sorry if that is a bit harsh. Maybe I can get used to it.
In my ideal world, the first track would get played on top 40 radio stations
Caleb Price
I completely respect your opinion, but 1. Maybe today people are so used to heavily effected and autotuned voices, that thay are not able to identify a natural good voice anymore. And, since no one has aver said that this vocalist is out of tune, and being out of tune is an objective characteristic, let me tell that you are wrong. 2)badly timed? You are not theone who wrote the song, and therefore you can't know for sure how they were conceived. 3) The pronounciation. Again, everyone is so used to that american, or fake-american accent, but that doesn't mean that a different accent is bad. The singer is classically trained, and to pronounce letters more definite comes probably from that.
Too much shit in listeners' ears, I think (not your fault). Sorry if I sound a bit offended, but i can't accept that a singer like that is shitted on, there are plenty of female singers with the same voice and style that everything that is different (and actually good) is not accepted (from SOME people, everyone on here who has listened to this loved her vocals). She may sound a bit weird, but I can assure that all is in tune, without autotune and all that shit.
Jace Bennett
>Not out of tune So you are telling me that at 2:08 the vocalist is intentionally singing a G over an F# major chord (minor 2nd at FOR-ever)
>2)badly timed? You are not theone who wrote the song, and therefore you can't know for sure how they were conceived. So you are telling me that no person could ever judge whether someone is in time because you don't know what timing they intend.
Try expanding your aural skills instead of your defensive skills.
Ryder Wilson
Judging by your grammar, you are not sufficiently qualified to comment on how good someone's English is
She is intentionally doind that.It was written like that. And that is an Eb minor, btw.
And no, you can't. It is NOT out of time, and maybe the slight irregularities are there because that is an actual human voice singing.
My aural skills are fine, thank you. Try to understand that, MAYBE, there can be something in music that you are not used to,but objective characteriatics cannot be discussed.
Justin Peterson
I'm not a native speaker.
Andrew Lopez
I'm not talking about the Eb minor. I'm talking about the F# major two chords later. With a fucking G sung over it. I even told you which word to listen out for in the post above.
If you truly believe that it is impossible to judge someone's timing then you are beyond logical discussion and I hope you never have to audition a drummer.
Ethan Taylor
ah yes, that one, sorry. Completely intentional. Arguing on a single note. You know, perfection is boring. And a singer can be a human, too. Timing, for a vocal line, can depend on the interpretation/decision on how to sing certain words or phrases. We are literally arguing about songs that are supposed to sound weird, too. Pointless. Auditioning drummers is a COMPLETE different shit.
So which is it? An intentional minor second? or a brief mistake that you're not concerned with?
Thomas Adams
Intentional. The 'perfection is boring' thing is about the general intended spirit of the whole album.
Nathaniel Sullivan
No way is that minor second intentional you fuckin idiot hahahahahahahahahahaha
I accept that maybe she is singing intentionally with loose timing. Which is odd given the music is recorded perfectly in time. In which case that timing style of singing is just not for me.
Cooper Powell
I highly doubt she would be able to sing tightly in time.
Caleb Cruz
It is.
Also, is that an insult? Then all you said is invalid. This is fucking strange pop music, not some academic shit.
Liam Green
Classically trained singer. She is doing something that is called ACTING, here.
Nathan Richardson
Acting as someone with bad english. And very convincing too
David Ward
Ahahahahah well, since these are your opinions, and your opinions alone, we don't fucking care. Even if we were doing bad shit intentionally. There is some bad shit that is actually praised by some, so, i guess, that's it :)
Noah Brown
I am listening to more of it now. There are missed notes all over the show. This is not meant as an insult.
Either you don't mind missed notes, in which case you've achieved your goal. Or you don't notice the missed notes, in which case you could work on improving if you wanted to.
Some people can't stand out of tune singing (especially if the note is a whole semi-tone out), and I am one of those. I'm old enough to be pre-autotune so don't blame that.
Juan Rivera
Then I guess we must appeal to a lot of deaf people. That's a goal :)
What is the best software for creating music, in you guys' opinion?
Caleb Cox
Grand piano
Jonathan White
Audacity (for recording only), FL Studio, Google Drive (sharing .zips from FL for collabs), Google Keep (lyrics and ideas)
Landon Adams
ableton live. Nothing is probably inherently the best. I've never found any fault with ableton however.
Owen Campbell
stfu dubbi FL sucks dick Ableton live correct. but also Logic & Protools if you can afford the addons
Jose Fisher
KYS fag, keep stifling the kid who asked by implying it wont get the job done
i bet your beats are trash too
Carson Anderson
what kid imbecile? its just user i work in a recording studio. i bet you suck ass as well larper
John Bennett
enjoy remastering old shit for greatest hits collections at your job
Henry Perry
And, another interesting note from the creators, in the third to last track there is actually an out of tune guitar. Just leaving this here for the cringe I suppose, you know :)
Carter Foster
I would like some assistance for finding out what genre my music specifically is. I'm not quite sure what it specifically is but I think it's a mix of complextro, progressive house and something else.
Here's my latest finished track. Many of my other tracks are unfinished projects that I also like to upload to soundcloud.
enjoy your mediocrity on /mu shill threads. fwiw i produce & mix original artists. track mastering is another technical job all thogether. mastering (actually trained & certified) is a specialised professional job. not mine. but none of you faggots here would know that difference, not least you
Colton White
Nowhere near as out of tune as your vocalist.
Kevin Richardson
Damn these songs are really cool. Pity about the shrill singer
Ryder Gutierrez
Vocalist here, that was utterly flattering :)
Carson Young
Actually I'm Trent Reznor
Christopher Campbell
It's a bit more ambient than house. The snares seem a bit off but I like it. Really love the whole concept of an elementary school-themed album. In contrast to I really think the vocals add to the whimsical atmosphere of the album. Probably the most interesting album I've listened to in a while.
Thank you! The point is, I'm not here to state that our stuff is perfect and incontrovertible, and your comment shows that it's all a matter of taste. Plus, one can actually DECIDE to adopt a particular style in order to create an athmosphere. Strange album=odd singing style
Daniel Garcia
But you also get offended when someone doesn't like it and start ranting
Easton Perry
That fact is that it wasn't stated that they didn't like it (that would have been totally fair and welcomed). My opinion is that Art cannot, in any case, be discussed objectively. Even flaws sometimes could be part of the whole, think about, for example, experimental stuff.
Nicholas Richardson
They did say they didn't like it. They said ">I am struggling with...." They said they didn't like the out of tune vocals and out of time vocals. You've admitted that it was intentionally out of tune and out of time and you don't care about perfection.
Andrew Ortiz
Right. I just replied that I THOUGHT that wasn't true. All the shitty 'perfectionist' stuff like going to check out the single notes really annoyed me. One can express any opinion, of course, but must expect a reply back. And the reply was that going in too deeply in such an idiosyncratic work is pointless. That he began insulting, and that, I think, speaks for itself.
Henry Wright
You are a big baby
Jonathan Lewis
I am. That is why I sing that way :)
Jacob Edwards
Exactly my point.
You get offended when someone doesn't like your music and you start ranting
Blake Lewis
One must try to 'defend' their own stuff :)
Samuel Howard
Art can be discussed at the very least partly objectively, though you probably wouldn't be able to.
Sebastian Bailey
Fine. Really happy that I wouldn't. That would mean stopping being an artist and becoming a fucking critic. No, thank you.
Austin Gomez
Would love to have some feedback on my latest track
