Thoughts on Frank Ocean? Genuinely curious.
Thoughts on Frank Ocean? Genuinely curious
He's good, but vastly overrated
What makes you say that? I think his writing is actually really good.
I mean some of his songs have interesting stories but, he could still improve on it. The production is what mainly keeps it all together and if Im correct he doesn't actually do that much production so a lot of credit should go to his producers.
Dat nigga gay bruh
He has this visual album, Endless, made me change the way I saw him as an artist. If you’ve heard it, then disregard this. But he produced most of it and it’s probably my favorite project of his
I refuse to listen.
Well he’s bi, so you could listen to half his discography amirite?
>his writing
He has a team of songwriters and producers. He even got sued for not crediting some people.
Uh no, he doesn’t have a team of writers, he’s actually known for writing most of his music. And he actually sued his old producer for not producing on his last album....
If Carseat Headrest had originally wrote some of the songs on Blonde like Ivy it would be posted here every week
Blonde is album of the decade
You think so? Was a not a real big fan myself but I do see a lot of people sharing the same sentiment. I prefer all his other projects over blonde personally, but to each their own.
Nights is in my top ten songs of all time. Probably even top 5. The part where the beat begins to change and Frank is harmonizing, singing "new beginnings...." means a lot to me. its the song that was running through my head when I found out that the headaches I had been having for 6 years were hydrocephalus pains induced by a plum sized brain tumor in my ventricle. I had had it for 20 years or so, they theorize. I think about that beat switch/harmonizing segment a lot, particularly about how that moment was a new beginning for me. it was only a few days later that I had surgery to remove this large mass in my head. My life would never be the same after that moment, and i knew it all along the three hour ambulance ride early that morning. Was surreal. Nights and Ghost Town by Kanye West, which i had on repeat during my subsequent recovery from the procedure.
Blonde vs Channel Orange is more of a personal preference thing imo, but I think both are WAY better than Nostalgia Ultra.
Lmao. The dude is gay as fuck man.
ewwwww gross, removing his albums from my library right now
You like Endless?
Pretty close to Blonde for me, but it's definitely more polarizing
media hyped him up, couldn't live up to the hype.
>Uh no, he doesn’t have a team of writers, he’s actually known for writing most of his music
except that's completely fucking false and he's known to work with other writers and producers.
oh look! you're wrong again. what a fucking shock, eh?
I know his fanbase is a little but cringey but I genuinely think he's not overrated.
>Unbelievable voice
>Breathes new life into dead, shitty genre
>Genuinely experimental
>Still has considerable pop success
>Looks like a sex god
>Was so business savvy he finessed $21 million from a filthy major record label, which should make him a god to any Albini-types who care about the lack of ethics in the industry.
Try as I might I just can't find anything to dislike about him. He really has it all.
You might be right.
He's a singer and songwriter, not a producer/arranger. Like Townes Van Zandt.
/t
Probably, yeah. It's beautiful
This
agreed
His voice is weak as hell Have you ever listened to actually good singers before?
Ok, but in all fairness you credit people for just coming up with an idea, word or a little twist in the production.
Would be interesting to know exactly what they helped him with, percussion, additional vocals or all over arrangement.
Jej
one of the best musicians of the past decade
