never because he isn't

He's pretty amazing. He's on the cusp of popularity among hipsters so I won't say he's overrated. Overlooked I'd say. In particular I love:
Heart Attack and Vine
Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis
Innocent When You Dream

>overrated
underrated, I mean

Because Nick Cave is

>He's on the cusp of popularity among hipsters
What.
He's a massively famous and successful artist. Most any boomer knows "The Piano Has Been Drinking" and even most people who aren't familiar with his music know his name and that he has a funny voice. The dude was on Letterman for decades.

>Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis
Absolutely 10/10
Probably my favorite song ever

The older I get the more I appreciate I don't wanna grow up

Always thought the last chorus should have been "I didn't want to grow up"

It's such an innocent song compared to the rest of Bone Machine. Almost feels out of place.

>The dude was on Letterman for decades.
and Springsteen covered one of his songs

He is one of them. I love Waits' experimental period but he is nowhere near Cohen as a songwriter. He owed a lot to Randy Newman and Springsteen.
