Prog rock bad

>prog rock bad
>indie rock/pop being experimental good

Why do music critics think this way?

because prog is for children who think more notes = better music

Why do retarded faggots think it's okay to make critic threads?

because prog is genuinely bad most of the time

people who know what they're doing being experimental = makes me feel dumb
people who don't know shit being experimental = wow i could do this too

a critic's opinion is worth less than the average person's

because prog is cringe af

I like catchy shit. So much prog is just noodling with no intent to further the song. Noodling can be interesting too but some prog bands even fail at that.

Prog is "smart" music for dumb people

In 1803 critics and knowledgeable audiences across Europe called Beethoven's Eroica symphony among the worst piece of music ever written.

...It also began the Romantic period of music. Critics enthusiastically hating a piece of art is historically a good indication that the work is substantial. Critics loving a piece of art is historically a good indication that the art is mediocre, and unadventurous.

pic related. He was loved by critics, taught Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, and you've never heard any of his music.

A lot of modern critics love or at least appreciate classic Prog though. The problem with most modern Prog is that it's just bands trying to recreate what bands like Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Rush and King Crimson already did 50 years ago. Whereas Indie Rock/Pop/Experimental/Underground stuff is far more broad and has more artists doing stuff that is fresh and exciting. NOT THAT THERE ISN'T A FUCK LOAD OF REDUNDANT INDIE. There are certainly a lot of modern Indie artists just trying to re-create the 80s/90s College Rock/Alternative scene. But in the long run there is much more substance to be found in the latter than the former.

better question, why do music critics even exist anymore? the only opinion that matters is your own.

Who gives a shit what some sperg with a YouTube channel thinks of anything when I can just listen myself?

He didn't teach Mozart. They were professional rivals that once collaborated on a composition. You've used a screencap from Amadeus; I hope you know that the plot was heavily fictionalized. Still a great movie nonetheless.

based & redpilled

You don't have infinite time and most people would like to listen to stuff knowing that it's generally well liked. There's bound to be tons of stuff you personally may like while a lot of other people wouldn't like them but still, listening completely at random has a higher chance of you wasting your time on garbage.

In reality Salieri could be considered the luckiest man in the history of art. He was privy to some of the most talented composers and musical innovators to ever live. He taught some, he played with many, and he met all of them

While the movie is most certainly a fictional masterpiece, it's just that; fiction. Salieri was probably the greatest musical pedagog in history.

the best new prog is made by bands bringing prog influences into a different genre, mostly psych and metal

All zoomers are NPCs.

the late 70s was an era of experimentation shifting from prog (which grew to be mainstream), into indie (which was legitimately artistic and developing from the burgeoning punk scene at the time)

how can you say this when Greta thunberg exists

rock bang bang fun
prog act too big brain for bang bang fun
