I've only listened to Siamese Dream from these guys and it's alright I guess, but I don't really get the hype. I get that Billy poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it and I respect that, but I just don't enjoy it all that much.

Nirvana did was never better than SmashingP but they generated more hype due to muh emotions and 90s teenagers/young adults.
Billy is quite possibly the most cringe yet based musician of all time
i think cobain resonated more with kids than corgan did. billy was always uptight and seemed kind of douchey. kurt seemed laid back and struck a chord with the jaded youth of the early 90s.

Classical musician here, nirvana were better at writing catchy songs which is the only point of popular music. I would never listen to LCD music like nirvana or sp but nirvana is obviously better for the mode

Both bands are great, but Nirvana only had good catchy songs. The Pumpkins had catchy songs but also covered a wide range of styles and song structures.
I remember first time i heard cherub rock. It was on Mtv really late. It was their 1st single i believe. It was an odd but artsy video.
They are different. Nirvana was raw rage and isolation. The Smashing Pumpkins are more into dreams, nostalgia and regret.
