On what basis is this shit "trap", "industrial", "dark ambient", or "goth"...

On what basis is this shit "trap", "industrial", "dark ambient", or "goth"? The whole thing is pop from start to finish and her vocals are boring as hell.

It’s none of those genres and people who say it is only listen to pop and love buzzwords.

This.

this

That's what I figured.

Oh look another Billie Eilish thread
JUST WHAT WE FUCKING NEED

One word: marketing.

It’s easier to sell her if her audience can feel “special” thinking her music is some deep shit rooted in a celebrated subculture, kind of like how 2003 kids all thought they were “punk” for shopping at Hot Topic.

I don’t really like her but Bury a Friend’s instrumental is very clearly industrial influenced

How?

The percussion, the rhythm, the little noises that happen during parts of the song, the static
Honestly kinda reminds me something NIN would do

More like ASMR over edgy (for pop standards) músic.

It’s made for girls who want to be edgy but without having to commit:

Haha fucking boomers are so mad that BASED Billie Eilish and Playboi Carti are making better shoegaze than white men

it's not industrial though, more like post-industrial/avant-pop.

It’s pop with some industrial influence.

You can’t really deny this song has a goth influence:
youtube.com/watch?v=lH1F6m3slrQ

Its about as goth as drinking water out of a mug that you just washed the remnants of yesterday's tea and calling what you drank tea.

This is literally just electronic pop.

more like industrial plant amirite

It really do be like that

>post-industrial
I like to listen to post-industrial, will I like Billy's album?

Listen to it and find out.

if you like coil - the new backwards, you're in for a treat

It's not like a ton of goth wasn't poppy as fuck

No. It's pop shit, like this:

Sure I can. FUck you!

...

>accidentally kill a bat
>OMG SO METAL

This is what Billie would sound like if she were truly goth:
youtube.com/watch?v=WPw7nlluRdc

If she were industrial she'd sound more like this:
youtube.com/watch?v=H4HUUncUwtI

You sure are very conveniently ignoring all the mainstream and poppy both songs and bands.

She’s “harsh noise”, literally Death Grips/Daughters/Lingua Ignota.

>Lingua Ignota
Oh fuck off. There's no way in hell Billie can sing as well as Kristin.

Go away boomer

Ive heard the 2017 album today for the first time, it was fucking bad.

>There's no way in hell Billie can sing as well as Kristin.
Because her mouth is full of curry sauce.

Attached: 164121982398840909.webm (480x600, 2.1M)

She's still a much better singer than Billie.

I mean, so is any of the million "dark neoclassical" artists

Agreed, which shows what a shit vocalist Billie is.

Without her brother's production she'd tank, hard.

What is this?

If Billie Eilish is goth, then so is Banks.

Banks is not goth.

Billie is not goth.

Simply synth/electronic pop music.

>thinking she's a bad vocalist
>thinking she needs her bro
youtube.com/watch?v=-UIeiPxogm0

At 1:10 you can clearly hear her strain her vocals.

The Cure
Strawberry Switchblade
Siouxsie
Specimen
Depeche Mode
All About Eve
KMFDM
The Mission
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Psychic TV

Just some of the goth/industrial bands that put out songs or entire albums more poppy than Eillish.

That fucking mumbling is so embarrassing. Does she have to mask her bad vocals with whispering or something?

american mating ritual

>That fucking mumbling is so embarrassing. Does she have to mask her bad vocals with whispering or something?
A friend of mine saw her live (she had to supervise her 13-year old sister) and said Billie was barely on-key the entire time. Hence the whispering.

Yes, but those albums or tracks likely weren't coined, "goth". Nobody would say that Enjoy the Silence is goth. It's synth pop/pop. Just like every track on Billie's album. However, tracks like "Funeral Party", which would be considered goth, are notably different in themes and sound than anything Billie has.

>more poppy than Eillish
>bad guy isn't pop
>when the party's over isn't pop
>wish you were gay isn't pop
>you should see me in a crown isn't pop
Motherfucker Billie's entire album is pop. There's nothing remotely goth or industrial about it except maybe the Bury a Friend instrumental, which itself is a rip-off of Black Skinhead.

What are her other songs with "goth influence"?

*Floridian

Denzel is a Bahamian-Floridian.

But they were. Unless you want to dissect an album song by song, which no one did.
Case in point: Strawberry Switchblade's entire musical output.

Its all pop. Are you implying that Lovecats, Amelia, Lovers, Godstar, Juke Joint Jezebel, Since Yesterday, or Hong Kong Garden are less poppy and more alternative than anything on that album?

Nothing on Billie's album is "alternative".

So then none of the goth groups above are alternative either.

What makes Billie "goth" or "alternative", according to you. Because I listen to a song like Bad Guy and all I hear is low-beat pop with a circus music drop. She's literally a more electronic Avril Lavigne.

Its pop with clear goth influences. Just like goth went into and was largely created from pop or pop rock back in the 80s.

>Its pop with clear goth influences.
Name me the songs aside from Bury a Friend which are "goth" influenced.

All of the singles, didn't bother listening to the rest of the album. What exactly do you think "goth" is defined as?

>All of the singles
>wish you were gay is "goth"
>all the good girls go to hell is "goth"
>when the party's over is "goth"
>bad guy is "goth"
I'm sure.

>doesn't answer the question

everytime i see this picture i think it's an andrew WK thread. FUCK

Dude... Goth came from punk music, not pop.

You never explained how any of the album's singles are goth-influenced.

Billie is as "goth" as Good Charlotte were "punk".

Which is why I said largely. Specimen were absolutely poppy as fuck, and they were the most important goth band by far both by defining the image and creating the scene, helping other first wave bands get together and have a venue to play at.

Tried listening to this. Maybe I'm getting old but the shit was so boring to listen to. wtf?

>still doesn't answer the question
And are you trying to imply that Good Charlotte weren't influenced by punk in any way?

>specimen
>most important goth band by far

You had me. I thought you were serious for a second. I concede. I took the bait.

It's a product being marketed. Not genuine music.

>gave the genre its name
>gave the subculture its entire identity
>actually created the subculture
>promoted goth bands, encouraging growth
Without Specimen there would not be a scene. Bauhaus and Christian Death were more important as far as sound goes, but without Specimen they would still be referred as post-punk and hardcore along with 45 Grave.

>assumes the term and culture wouldn't have caught on otherwise despite bands like Magazine, Bauhaus and Joy Division already having been described as "gothic" in the late 70s

Ok bud.

That’s why I said industrial influences i didn’t just flat out say it’s an industrial song

shes just a watered down jarboe for the masses

Ah, yes, Magazine and Joy Division, extremely well known for running venues, their heavy glam inspirations, connections to hardcore punk scene, willingness to experiment with new technology and incorporating heavy theatrics into their performance.
Goth without Specimen would be horror punk, with 3 relevant bands and no actual form or scene to talk about. But sure, go and play what if.

its only influence is black skinhead

And by the way, no, the terms "batcave" and "deathrock" really wouldn't catch on without Specimen, seeing as, you know, they created them.

The fact you need to revert to referencing the most tourist industrial hiphop song says a lot about your opinions.

listen to one after another, she stole the song

god i miss specimen :(

Denzel's music is on average much darker than hers.

>she stole the song

you mean the corporate producers/apparatus behind her stole it

She's a poseur who will put on any face for cash.

Billie wishes she had her vocal ability and genuine dark production.

The childish hook was blatantly stolen from People Are Strange as well.

Then again, Billie stole her entire persona from Miami SoundCloud rap so I'm pretty sure she's used to plagiarism at this point.

Oh god Justice Beaver is back

Unironically this

Billie is Hot Topic the pop star.

"Look at how DIFFERENT and EDGY I am because I listen to Billie and not Taytay or Ari!!"

Not goth at all but not really that bad of a song either. Would be cool if her entire album sounded like this.

>Billie is Hot Topic the pop star.
This is just Lorde, again, but with more dance in the skill stack. Kimbra's first release was stronger than either, but that's in the straightforward alt-pop lane.

Kimbra is for moms

And Billie is for 14-year olds.

sounds like you're describing Yeezus

This sounds like Sweetner if Ari wasn't so worried about T-Mobile sponsorships

go away SGP

>implying Purrp isn't correct

it is weird DC hangs out with someone almost 8 years younger than him

Without SGP, Billie wouldn't exist. She clearly jacked his sound all throughout her album.

Billie: "i'M sO dArK aNd EdGy AnD dEeP aNd My VoIcE iS sUpEr HaUnTiNg."

Kristin: "Hold my noise machine."

youtube.com/watch?v=q604eed4ad0
youtube.com/watch?v=HUHC9tYz8ik

They have the same flow too. Incredible...

She’s obnoxious.

Bump cuz i saw boobie eyelish in the OP

Daily reminder goth was started by black people. This little white bitch has no place stealing two cultures she was never a part of.

Appropriation often makes things better.

Billie makes it worse.

Isolated issue.

She is of legal age in my country.
I want her to shit down my throat
