Anything from Richard Skelton, really.
what's the point
>make a chart of all of the boring repetitive recs that flood ambient threads
>snipe future ambient threads early with it to get the obvious ones out of the way
>quickly move on to discussing less talked about recs
also, existing ambient charts are probably out of date and/or reflect only the tastes of their creator/s.
Why is this album so good? All the Brian Eno stuff bores me to death, but this is different.
Is there more ambient stuff like Biosphere?
fuck off shill
are you implying that Yea Forums has exactly the same taste in ambient as Scaruffi? Because I explicitly asked for Yea Forumscore ambient.
Also half the shit on that isn't even ambient.
Aphrodites Child for example, might be atmospheric and shit, but it ain't ambient.
Not shilling it, I'm merely reflecting that it gets shilled enough in Yea Forums ambient threads to be considered Yea Forumscore ambient. Not saying it has to be good quality ambient, just overly posted recs.
This and Monolake - Cinemascope
kys shill
you'll never gonna make it
Music for airports fucking blows, boring samey garbage
>picture literally has "Neg Age, Electronic, and Ambient Music" written on it
>is not all ambient!
Thanks for stating the obvious user.
based
yikes. No
> DURRRH VAPORWAVEZZ
go back to plebbit faggot
not the thread for sharing more obscure recs. This is specifically for collecting the most overposted recs to collate them in a chart, sorry. I'll help you out some other thread.
>still thinks I'm Bengalfuel
hah buddy if it's any comfort I don't like them either.
Doesn't have to be good to be posted, just has to be frequently rec'd in ambient threads.
Then why post it in this thread when, as I clearly stated, this thread is specifically for collating the most frequently AMBIENT recs on Yea Forums
fucking finally, someone gets the purpose of this thread, thanks for reminding me of GAS
Fuck yourself
What's the consensus on this?
>inb4 some inbred retard from plebbit posts the minecraft soundtrack
if you thought of doing it you should unironically kill yourself
ambient 1, 2, 4, apollo
ravedeath, virgins
stars of the lid and the refinement of their decline, tired sounds
zeit, phaedra, rubycon
disintegration loops
selected ambient 2
76:14
music for 9 post cards
From these artists, the biggest Yea Forums memes are:
>steve roach - structures from silence
>penguin café orchestra - music from the penguin café
>harold budd - pavillion of dreams
>jean michel jarre - equinoxe
>cluster - ii
And maybe also:
>enya - watermark
>popol vuh - hosianna mantra (both new age but more tranquilizing than most meme ambient)
>jon hassell - vernal equinox
>klaus schulze - irrlicht
>tangerine dream - phaedra
>that one caretaker album
>roly porter - third law
>stars of the lid - the tired sounds of
>basinki - disintegration loops i
>global communication - 76:14
>some grouper album
>gas - zauberberg
Probably check out Mark Pritchard and Jan Jelinek.
here you're starting to blur the line between ambient and ambient techno. I would remove 76:14, virgins, and all the tangerine dreams albums if you want to keep it pure ambient
fuck it, everyone thinks ambeint techno and ambient is the same thing so might as well add this masterpiece
Fugg, I meant Jarre's Oxygene. Kraftwerk makes essential Yea Forumsbient as well.
OP again. Thanks for actually being helpful, I still need a 2nd opinion on a bunch of stuff. It's meant to reflect the board so it's a collaborative effort.
is this Yea Forumscore ambient yet, or has it been a single person shilling it over again?
Yea Forums likes Ravedeath better than that one
And you should add:
Mono No Aware
Three love songs
Something by Windy & Carl
Ben Frost - Theory of Machines
Stars of The Lid obviously
Grouper obviously
these are justa few off the top of my head
not mucore. Too recent, let the hype die down first
good to get a specific steve roach rec on. I've strongly disliked that guy's music for almost a decade now, but he gets posted on here so he needs representation.
is Mono No Aware really that popular?
also which SotL if we're keeping it to 1 rec per artist?
sure. how about this one?
i see it quite often, maybe it's just me
>which SotL
And Their Refinement of the Decline i guess
I personally don't think loscii is all that great, but it does get posted kind of frequently here, so idk. You could add it or you could skip it. (I'm the GAS person)
Mono No Aware is also relativelly recent and not that mu-core imo.
Steve Roach is a total must. Either structures from silence or dreamtime return
This chart isn't about good music. It's about frequently posted music.
mocking up the first attempt at a chart rn
I'd do Tired Sounds Of... Instead of Refinement of the Decline
I see Decline posted a lot more though.
>keeping it to 1 rec per artist
i don't know why Yea Forums charts keep doing it. it's going to miss some obvious albums.
I'm assuming people aren't complete retards and are able to look up an artist's discography without other anons holding their hand.
came to post these
>yikes. No
imagine being like this
pic related as well as steve roach, the disintegration loops, and the klf chill out
SAW vol 2 would be better
I don't think we should put ambient techno on the chart since its not really "true" ambient but that's just me.
>thinks ambient techno isn't purist enough
>recs Disintegration Loops
it has strings, so it's modern classical drone
>SAW vol 2 would be better
since you're the 2nd person to say this I've switched it out.
She's only shilled she's one pretty face and she exploits it to her advantage. So the incelfags jumped in the wagon.
her ambient is so bland and uninteresting.
clouds - gaussian curve
rainforest spiritual enslavement - ambient black magic
Any recs for a specific grouper album yet?
oh shit missed this one, awesome
Nmesh / Telepath - ロストエデンへのパス (The Path To Lost Eden)
Xerrox 3
>any telepath other than pic
leyland kirby - sadly the future is no longer what it was
(This is the caretaker alias)
Wanted to post what I've got so far. I can keep adding rows though.
>any Caretaker other than pic
sarah davachi - let night come on bells end the day
bollocks, steve roach didn't render
Are you serious? Have you even heard “When We Parted, My Heart Wanted to Die”
seriously remove bengalfuel. this would be like putting dubbi in a Yea Forumscore chart. it is ridiculous
sure. what should I replace it with?
one of these?
I'd need to start a new row to put both on, and I'd need 5 more recs to fill that row.
Steve Roach is bugged
Khotin - Beautiful You
That’s all folks
Put in some Hiroshi Yoshimura, I see Music for Nine Postcards recommended in those threads pretty often.
not him, but replace it with Ekkehard Plays
literally anything would be better. Maybe consider adding some carbon based lifeforms
dw already noticed, will fix in next update.
it can't be though... I've added The Haxan Cloak - Excavation, I need 3 more recs.
ok that's another 2, so I need 1 more rec
fair, let's do that and call it done yeah?
>let's do that and call it done
yes, if you want to skip my comment that badly
fuck wait I'm still a rec short, misread that.
I skipped it cause I'd already put it on lol
the current last row is kind of extra. that telepath album really doesn't classify. One vaporwave ambient is more than enough (fulfilled by 2814)
this is what I have now, with space for one more rec.
looking much better now. Good job.
Maybe a rainbow in curved air by terry riley?
pariah - here from where we are
also sorry to insist but telepath has two records on that chart. 2814 is telepath and some other dude. You should remove the one with nmesh and telepath and keep the 2814 one
No OPN?
If nobody else objects, sure.
I could replace one of them with this? which one though
any specific rec?
Does Eno's "Apollo" count as ambient?
Replica for sure for a chart like this. I'd also put in The KLF - Chill Out.
yes, but Eno already has representation on the chart
OPN is not ambient and is never talked about in ambient threads.
I love opn (and so does Yea Forums) but it really shouldn't be in ambient Yea Forums core
hold up, I'm either going to have to get enough recs for another row, or replace even more.
If The Hexan Clock is on the chart OPN should definitely be too
I agree on KLF - Chill out
I disagree on OPN. Not ambient
jon hassell & brian eno - fourth world
This is a must
Helm - chemical flowers
these may be good but are NEVER talked about on ambient Yea Forums threads
neither is this one
ok here's what I did.
since you wanted KLF on the chart,
and since you are justifying wanting OPN on the chart on the inclusion of The Haxan Cloak,
I have gone and replaced The Haxan Cloak with KLF.
That way I don't have to start another damn row.
I agree actually but I kinda started the thread with a "1 rec per artist", Eno and Hassell are both individually represented, and I don't want to continue this bollocks.
for fuck's sake.
I kinda feel this has to be on the chart now and I don't know where to put it.
>released 17 May 2019
too new, and definitely not ambient
Thoughts of a Dot as it Travels a Surface
by CV & JAB
It’s from 2019, let the mutards catch up
Some of that shit I've never seen in a single ambient thread here
Maybe you’ll start to soon
very nice
I like user, you'll never please everyone.
Fuck yes this is a good one to put on hungover on a Sunday morning
This! Fuck em user, this is cool
nice
remove Disintegration Loops, it's neither ambient nor good
Is Forest Swords considered ambient? It’s hard to know where to draw the line..
Brian Eno - Ambient Anthology
Stars of the Lid (Tired Sounds of)
C418 - Minecraft
Fuck off bud. Don’t do it user
OP here.
I'm beginning to feel like I wasted 1 and a half hours of my life on this shit.
The entire purpose of this was for me to create a "containment chart" of all the Yea Forumscore ambient that gets repeatedly posted so that I could snipe ambient threads with it to make several posts from several anons reccing them unnecessary, so we could all get onto discussing more interesting releases.
The goal isn't to actually encourage people to listen to any of this shit.
of the 42 releases on the last chart update, I have 2 in my collection. I've listened to most of the others at some point and didn't like.
And now you're all arguing about the validity of some of them on the chart cause hell if I keep track of how many times those albums have been posted. Music For Airports gets posted all the time, I know that for sure.
I could link you all to dozens of currently active netlabels with backcatalogs covering in total probably comfortably over 100 artists, but y'all call me contrarian for doing that while you insist on listening to shit put out 25-50 years ago, and the fuckin cherry on top is that for all the ambient OGs you post, you don't even give Mathias Grassow the acknowledgement he deserves.
You all have the imagination of a brain damaged Presbyterian church lady. Fuck this board.
-------------------------
chill dude we liked the chart
Kek
fuck off bengalfuel
:(
>Mathias Grassow
It's not our fault that you're a total ambient pleb
based
checked
good chart, but this is an autistic post
you're making a chart for people who'll immediately call you a faggot for posting it and continue to give the same recommendations as always
of course you wasted your time you retard
>those quads
>telling someone posting the minecraft soundtrack to kill themselves
>we liked the chart
yeah that's the fuckin problem lmao.
I intended for Bengalfuel to be on the chart too, so I could trash them as well. Their entire hustle is paulstretch and boobies. at least the other paulstretch goons I know don't sink as low as associating their shitty output with tits for sales.
You listen to Eno, Hecker SotL, KLF, Tangerine Dream & Steve Roach. You don't get to call anyone else a pleb.
isn't it good that we made a varied chart, with music we all liked?
I mean that's much better than a Yea Forumscore chart
>Ambient music autists recommending people music they don't actually like just so they can shitpost about the music they like and see who's more autistic for liking it
i just got here and i now wont read this thread because of this post. thanks?
What if I'm not interested in bandcamp core made with Valhalla reverb in a DAW?
Are you the same guy from a few days ago who started sperging out in an ambient thread and ended making a list of mostly bandcamp trash?
holy autism
Yeah
For a genre that sound peaceful it sure attracts a lot of angry autists like this guy here on this board.
so you were intentionally trying to make it bad so that you could shit on this board's tastes and shill your bandcamp-tier trash?
Yikes
Guarantee neither of you have spent a minute on bandcamp. You see a url with "bandcamp" in it and break out in hives. If you actually put the effort in you'd realise there's a lot good on bandcamp, it's not just amateurs uploading dronescapes for quick bucks, there are long-established artists and labels who pre-date bandcamp by decades who host their backcatalogs there, and continue to put out new releases from artists who actually put effort into their work.
The only thing I care for on bandcamp is dungeon synth
redpill me on bandcamp shit then. What are some long-established artists and labels that fit that description? I'll listen to all their records and get back to you on if they are indeed better or at least in par than my current favourite ambient albums (many of which are on the Yea Forumscore chart you made)
(obviously would take me more than a day, by get back to you I mean the next time we meet on an ambient thread)
No worries as they're starting to recognise me as the angry sperg who spams bandcamp recs, so I'm pretty obvious anyway.
Hold on a sec while I scroll through all the labels & artists I follow to find the pertinent ones.
>not listening to ambient music to soothe your natural state of rage
pretty much
okay if you like stuff like CBL, check out Ultimae
ultimae.bandcamp.com
Aes Dana - Leylines and H.U.V.A. network might be worth starting off on
loki-found.bandcamp.com
shortwavetransmission.bandcamp.com
Loki Found were one of the first ambient labels I knew of, I guess check out Predominance - Nocturnal Gates of Incidence. I like Inade and Ionosphere, you probably won't. Also, Herbst9 on shortwave transmission
infraction.bandcamp.com
this should have some stuff you like on it. I like Parks - Hidden, you might prefer The National Pool - Relaxation Tape for Solo Space Travel, or My Home, Sinking - King of Corns
fuck it I'll post to bump thread and continue
voxxov-records.bandcamp.com
not really familiar with anything other than Paskine
masayaozaki.bandcamp.com
page of one artist with one release. might like it, might not.
longstoryrecordingcompany.bandcamp.com
at this point I realise it's probably unproductive for me to write something about each. so I'm not gonna filter and some of these might be the worse ones.

I'll check them out. Thanks user!
desu if I don't put some time in to actually curate everything I just threw at you, there's a good chance you'll encounter some of the shit other people talk about as being on bandcamp. I wanna pick out the best recs and narrow it down so you don't have to trawl through shit to find the good stuff.
I'd appreciate that, though I'm also willing to go through some mediocre or even bad records. I want to expand my collection and have an idea of what makes a mediocre or even bad ambient albums
if you want examples of BAD bandcamp ambient, check out:

Brian Leeds (aka Huerco S.) and his friends on his label West Mineral are making my favorite ambient right now.

I give up, I can't scour through dozens of netlabel backcatalogs trying to find what I think other people would like.
This chart is stuff I personally like. You can hit these recs up and on that basis decide if my taste in ambient is shit, but my favourite releases don't reflect the same diversity of labels and artists that I am aware of.
