I started browsing Yea Forums circa 2011, not exactly old but it was different.
Sharethreads were more abundant, Last.fm hadn't implemented that stupid 3.0 update so the site was usable. /metal/ didn't exist because Yea Forums was populated by autists who actually cared about Pitchfork. Whenever someone started a humour thread, it would always withotu fail devolve into some asshole spamming Jerk City. People actually gave a shit about tripfags and there was one guy who tried to force Ke$ha as a meme, but it never took off. Then there was another tripfag who was a brony obsessed with synthpop (this was pre global rule 15). People also didn't take Fantano as seriously back then, he was more of a joke.
At one point moot got Deadmau5 to do an AMA here and literally the entire thread was just spammed with people posting "go to bed Joel" over and over, it was great. I can't remember if this was Yea Forums or Yea Forums, but I also remember Anamanaguchi doing an AMA once to promote Endless Fantasy and everyone shitting on them nonstop. Andrew W.K. posted here once though, he was actually chill though. Wish I still had pics. Animal Collective were revered as gods here for a good few years, but everyone stopped caring about them after Centipede Hz. came out and killed the buzz for them.
Personally, I kinda got sick of the board culture here around 2014, I got a bit sick of the Death Grips and Swans spam and stopped coming here for a while. That being said, Yea Forums in 2019 is not that bad of a board. /prod/ and /gg/ didn't exist when I came here and they're genuinly nice threads. I do miss the ITAOTS threads and the Yea Forums essential charts though, they were a good way to get people into the board culture imo.

ya, i remember that. they always reached maximum capacity. Yea Forums threads only get 100 replies now if they're about a hot button issue. no center figure even. synthpop seemed like a special theme that no one from either side of the taste spectrum cared about, which made it funnier when he'd argue that like blondie or someone was actually super innovative. i do agree though, his opinions were original. i made the comic that had, "do u liek synthpop" as the punchline. his glory moments were how hard he bashed other music though.

The only bands people ever talked about before /metal/ was black metal or Critic Approved™ stuff like Agalloch or Wolves In The Throne Room. You couldn't start a thread about something like Suffocation or Deicide without it dying or getting spammed by p4kdrones.
