What else did Swans fans listen to before the band became associated with a bunch of shitty Fantanocore like Death Grips and Daughters?
Say you’re a Swans fan back in the 90s, what other bands would you enjoy?

Probably the New York No Wave Scene

Other indie rock / grunge from the time, old punk, no wave and avant garde stuff, noise. Napalm Death were into Swans back in 1985 along with death / thrash metal demos (of which Shane Embury played drums on one of the first really good ones to come from the UK), Japanese hardcore and contemporary UK anarcho punk or crossover stuff like Broken Bones. I guess after a point Swans’ reputation and legacy preceded them enough (indie / underground rock was getting to be a bit of a dinosaur even in the 00s) that the goofy Fantano treatment of it wasn’t going to surprise anyone

"Dirgecore", "pigfuck", goth rock, industrial music, hardcore punk, noise rock and so on.
All the cool Swans fans from the 80s / 90s probably died of heroin overdoses by the time the band reunited in the 2010s.

Oh yeah Napalm were also big into power electronics, Bullen and Broderick anyway. And Swans were getting pushed a lot by Melody Maker and NME in the late 80s (or technically since Cop but the articles I’ve seen are more about the general New York scene as in )

Seen from that pre-86 period*

where i can watch this shit?

Bought my CDs from Jarboe mid-2000s. I listened to a lot of goth rock, industrial metal, and dark ambient. Cure, Godflesh, Lustmord, NWW, Poesie Noir, Dead Can Dance, Bauhaus, Ministry, Christian Death, etc.

You kids get too upset at what some bald, self-indulgent idiot listens to, and want to find something else, or change your opinions out of spite. It's disgusting and immature. If you like a band then you like them. Reviewers all masturbate to themselves, you should know better.

It's not that interesting. At some point the contemporary "no wave" bands start shitting on each other for not being authentic ever though they're all New York art school trust fund brats

Check on slsk, might be there
Just tell him where to find it dude no one cares

>ever though they're all New York art school trust fund brats
They were, including Gira, who was the archetypal art school brat until he landed in jail.

Also, lower east side during the 80s, lots of heroin.

Didn't he run away and work in a factory for awhile then travel across Europe and Isreal?

Yeah this
He was hardly the definition of an art school brat, he was doing sheetrocking and construction for a while
Stop spreading ignorant misinformation faggot

>he was doing sheetrocking and construction for a while
I thought he did construction jobs after he moved to New York.

Don't bother it's fucking horrible.

First he ran away and worked in Germany. Then travled across Europe then went back to America

I understand your concern. I don’t really give a shit about what a Fantano thinks, I just hate how if you look for bands similar to Swans you just get other bands he likes, even though they’re nothing like Swans. That’s why I put him as the qualifier along with the timeframe of pre-reunion

i know them via angels of light who were active at the time. Actually prefer them over swans sometimes due to personal life stuff and memories etc

Sonic Youth, Killing Joke, Big Black, Neubauten, Joy Division, a lot of punk, gothic, industrial stuff, metal, grindcore

The Stooges

Foetus, Skinny Puppy, Einsturzende Neubauten, Coil, Godflesh, Ministry, etc. But also My Bloody Valentine, AFX, Bardo Pond, Nick Cave and many others that I cant remember.
Got into Swans back in 95 when every magazine associated them with Sonic Youth for some reason, bought a copy of "children of god" without ever listening to anything by them (it was in the bargain bin) and was hooked.
I was already in my late teens when that happened so fuck I'm old.

This

It's on PassThePopcorn and Karagarga.

You're still getting upset at him by proxy and it is dumb. Fantano is making his money off of other people by doing virtually nothing, and you're getting upset at the people falling into his web because they think bands that are radically different are related to each other. It means nothing and new people liking shit is fine.

someone pls answer this

Any anecdotes from when Soundtracks For The Blind came out?

Yeah, that the band already had broken up and it was a compilation of leftovers. It was probably the last Swans CD I bought because it was expensive af. You could find the first issues of Filth or any pre-Burning World album for 15 bucks or less (paid $8 for my copy of TBW) in alt/metal record stores, while the ones released by Young God Records where normally around $25 and where not an easy find. I bought Various Failures long before even thinking about getting SFTB
