That's the only "real" Mexican music out there, but if you look at the bigger picture mexico does not have a lot to offer, or the music you'll find will be heavily influenced by foreign music.
Ryan Peterson

When I went to church a while ago for my sister's conformation, they brought in all the immigrant families to. I dont have anything against mexicans, but because most of them didnt speak english the sermons and rituals switched between english and spanish. Thats all well and good, but when it was time to sing hymnols and shit, the english version was the one that started first. We did our usual solemn and kinda melancholy songs and it was nice. We had our usual piano play and lead vocalist leading the song. However, once it ended, the spanish song started. Some guy just pluged in a speaker and the most stereotypical festive and kinda gaudy mariachi music started playing. I honestly thought it was someone playing an very sick joke, but no, that was actually the music the Mexican/colombian community agreed upon. It actually shocked me. It was the most egregious tone shift I have experienced in my life. The kids, walking slowly back from the alter, were the most awkward thing I have seen in my life. A sundine shift from "THE MYSTERY OF FAITH..." to "ARIBA ARIBA!!" (Those were not the actual words, but I dont know much spanish).
It was something else.

My wife is Mexican and her older brother plays in a fairly famous cumbia band. It's good music if you're drunk and takes a lot of skill to play. Still, Mexico should have at least one really good alt-rock or shoegaze band or something, but they just don't.
Thomas Walker
There is actually a lot of similarities in mexican and japanese 80's pop. It's like both tried to copy USA in the same way.

I remember listening to some works by Mexican Classical Guitar Composers, but they pale in comparison to the many Brazilian and Argentinian Composers for the instrument.

Notice how the majority of Latin America and Spain are always the ones producing and releasing good music while Mexico is still stuck with their repetitive big mariachi bands, face it mexi-cucks, you're all good for nothing retards.

That’s just a thing with your church. At the church I went to I attended both English and Spanish mass, and they were the same musically. Both masses had their upbeat songs and their solemn songs. Sure the upbeat spanish songs had a more mariachi theme but I chalk that up to a simple cultural flair. I just surprised that your church had both languages at the same time, cause for my conformation there was separate dates set up for the two languages
Josiah Carter
