Why does everyone hate Kiss?

Totally disagree, KISS may have been a "basic" band in the sense that their music was far from prog and probably closer to punk as far as the hard rock spectrum goes, but bland? Nah.

Same can be said of just about any band, but I was born in '89 and got into KISS when I was like 12.

Yeah I would say so to be honest, but I also think that has to do with the fact that there has always been a bias against KISS and a narrative that they suck coming from elitist critics, and fuck critics. Critics say the original TMNT movie sucked....every comic book fan I know adores that film, so who are critics? People critiquing media that was never meant for them, that's who.

They made some great albums but became really turgid and stale after Love Gun.

Destroyer is rightly held up as their best but its also very short

I agree. They might not be the best band ever but they are not some generic cookie cutter band either. I like to listen to some of my favorites from time to time and they still feel fresh. I never feel like going back to Motley Crue or Twisted Sister or the like.

Judas Priest and KISS are not even comparable to me dude, Judas Priest is obviously the better band if you want to go into like seriousness, KISS had an element of stupidity that you have to be able to appreciate that Judas Priest only had when they were trying to be more like KISS, but yeah...not gonna argue KISS was more talented than Priest, I favor KISS for personal reasons

Well maybe it's not your thing, obviously it isn't, but if you life 70's hard rock (not heavy metal strictly) and never gave the early handful of KISS albums a chance I think you're missing out, to me they had the perfect blend of heavy metal appeal and riffs but with a pop element and purely American flavor

Eddie Trunk talks about getting beat up in high school for liking Kiss. They werent the cool kids band they were liked by the nerds and outcasts.

It was very entertaining watching all these hair bands trying to integrate themselves into the alternative rock era in the 90s.

This album actually had Trent Reznor credited as an "executive producer" too. Which probably means Reznor just showed up to the studio one day, did some coke with Halford and left.
