Of course, with the anime thing he's on thin enough ice as it is. If you're a weeb you have to basically be the spitting image of a 1950s breadwinner to not be denounced as a worthless pedophile. Being into cartoons about underage japanese girls is that big of a blemish on your reputation. Which is why he also plays a gibson les paul, the only gutiar other than the telecaster that a handsome, upstanding christian man from 70 years ago would ever play.
Jason Edwards
>tfw good looking, well groomed, gainfully employed, not a weeb, and socially and sexually active so I can listen to metal and play offsets and get away with it
I've been pouring through the /gg/ mega download while trying to get back to playing guitar. Does anyone have any other resources that aren't in the mega that I should check out? Planning on spending the next year or two in the woodshed and figured I'd ask.
>tfw ugly, work a shit job, openly admit to liking anime, completely friendless and only got laid once with a fat chick so i have to play a gibson and hate metal for people to see me as an adult
You could do much worse: - You could not own a Gibson. This would mean all of your guitars were inadequate. - You could post on Yea Forums(nel) without liking anime. This would mean you were clearly a severely mentally ill masochist.
Parker Price
If only a Gibson is good enough, then every ESP is exceptional.
Do you guys prefer direct mounting your pickups? For those of you who do, how do you do it? Just drill wood screws through the pickup tabs and into the wood? What if I need to adjust height?
Jacob Cruz
what difference does it make?
mana transfer between the pickup and the tonewood? lmao
don't forget your guitar body has to be one piece, no cap, so you don't have too many conflicting sources of voodoo. and have john petrucci bless the glue or bolts that hold your neck on to harmonize the tonewoods.
Jack Hall
Gotta have Billy Corgan paint it with tonepaint, too.
Austin Myers
you'll never make it if your pickups aren't hand-wound with vintage tone-wire by a tone-mexican.
Jaxon Cruz
He gets shit on here, because most of /gg probably doesn't understand him, but go sub to Rick Beato on Youtube, and if you can afford, buy his book. It hasn't hit the pirate circles yet, but it looks fantastic. If you're gonna woodshed, he's probably the guy to go with. Plus, get any books he recommends, he's mentioned some theory books in his streams.

colors on a guitar are the same as colors on a woman's fingernails. i mean, you're entitled to behave and conduct yourself like a woman all you want but you can't expect a man like me to reciprocate
Has anyone else had trouble getting guitar center to accept your money. My online order was cancelled because of ""fraud protection"", but that's just because I used a different phone number compared to the one I gave my bank.
So, you did exactly what their system was designed to detect? No, I've never had problems with ordering online, because my info matches.
And, I don't think I've ever needed a phone number to verify a credit card or debit card. What kind of poo scam are you running? Or are you using some poverty level prepaid card?
Austin Cook
I don't really care, you just put paint on it so it doesn't rot and warp and it's easy to fix if it gets dinged.
>inb4 dings are good! Yeah, I know, you went mudding for five minutes two years ago and still haven't washed your truck.
Jackson Watson
I didn't do anything, I just placed an order online, and had it's status set to 'cancelled' for seemingly no reason. Hopefully the guy I spoke to over the phone sorted it out, but I'm doubtful. It's been processing for a whole day; it'll probably fuck up again.
John Bailey

Isaiah Davis
fuck you i'm mad as hell >:(
Camden King
My bank didn't seem to have any issue, they were happily sending the money over. Guitar center just wouldn't accept it. No clue how they got my bank's info. Probably illegal sharing of personal data...
Josiah Murphy
yeah i'm a pretty bitch
Jacob Gray
If you made a purchase, you gave them the info, dummy.
Cooper Davis
Uhhh, no I didn't. There are two sets of info here: the set I gave guitar center, and the set I gave to my bank. Guitar center somehow found a way to compare the two. Besides, it's not like changing a phone number or an email address is such a big deal, right? That doesn't make me a different person.
Also checked.
Andrew Brown
Any time I spend more than $1k, I call my bank and tell them the transaction is coming, and not to red flag it. You can also ask for temporary raised spending limits, if their standard is like $2500 a day. The big banks are usually pretty easy to work with on things like that. I had to pay for a head rebuild on a car, when it popped a gasket, and that and a couple of other things was around $3k, so I called them and told them I need to have it clear, they said no prob, it went through. At the time they had a $2500 a day limit on that card.
Nathan Turner
Dude, you got red flagged. Nobody cares. Fix your shit, or stop trying to scam Guitar Center.
Liam Russell
Yeah, what you have to do when you steal a credit card is set everything up via vpn beforehand so it all looks legit. Then its just a matter of having it shipped to an abandoned house and you're scott free.
Brayden Gonzalez
My bank was loving to me. They were ready and willing to send my money away. It was less than 1000. Guitar center is at fault! The call center rep said they were doing ""a courtesy for my bank"". Like, just take the money, dude.
My shit is in order. I'm not scamming any one; the money was on the way! The bank was so happy to give my money, but they wouldn't take it!
I hope it's fixed now. I'll keep you guys updated.
Justin Evans
hey guys, im new to guitar, but i wanted to learn a song i like, whats the technique to play this between the strings notes? when i do it it sounds kind slow as if theyre separate notes
Guitar Center is such a shitty company. Trust me, don't ever buy anything "new" in their stores, because it's not even if they package and present it as such. I'm glad they're projected to go bankrupt in the next decade.
Angel Adams
I'm told they have a good return policy. If those corroded screws on my used guitar turn out to be an important flaw, it's going right back!
Bentley Moore
hell be fine
Alexander Perez
THIS is what I am buying. This is what I have bought. It's shipping as soon as they accept the money.
Their return policy is good because it'll go right back on the shelf the same day you bring it in. The warranty is what's usually worthless and requires jumping through more loops than it's worth.
Mason Allen
You just play both of the strings at the same time with different fingers
Jeremiah Brown
ah, ive been using a pick for everything, but that makes sense
Samuel Ortiz
Depression guy here, I made it out of bed and played some tunes. I’m going to make it.
Jaxson Morgan
Great job. Meanwhile I wlll be shitposting all night. I'll get in bed eventually!
Robert Taylor
I can literally only strum open chords. I know how barre chords work but whenever I try to play an E-shaped barre chord it always sounds muddy as fuck. What am I doing wrong? I feel like I need to pass this one obstacle before finally getting started on alternative bass/travis picking. My index finger is straight, thumb against the lower part of the neck, rest of my fingers straight with the tips on the strings, but for some fucking reason I'm having a real hard time getting my index finger to make good fret contact.
Barre chords take time. You should practice that for several weeks. Literally weeks.
Angel Allen
is this on an acoustic or an electric, and how high is your action set? You could probably do with lowering it until you're used to pressing down hard enough automatically
Luis Thompson
It's an acoustic and I notice the action is quite high but I'd rather practice with a high action now to get used to really holding down the barre
Ryan Torres
You should be using the side of your index finger. Just go to justinguitar.com, like the OP links recommend.
Hunter Torres
>You should be using the side of your index finger That might be what I'm doing wrong. I'm keeping my index finger really flat and straight. I'll check out Justin Guitar and see how he does it.
Nicholas Walker
More power to you then. High action on an acoustic makes progress a lot slower, but the minute you switch to an electric I guarantee it'll feel great. How's your wrist looking? If it's not straight you'll lose a lot of the energy that you're trying to press into the fretboard.
Mason Gomez
>how's your wrist looking? If it's not straight you'll lose a lot of the energy that you're trying to press into the fretboard. What do you mean by straight? For me I have my thumb pressed on the lower half of the neck and my arm sort of pushed out a bit farther that if I were to play open chords to really make sure my fingertips are making good fret contact
Lincoln Thomas
Work with your hands to develop callouses on every part of your index finger. Barre chords don't work with bony soft NEET hands.
Jason Hill
So basically you're saying soft fatty skin makes for a really shitty barre and I should focus on parts of my index finger with more bone?
Isaiah Fisher
Eddy Ate Dynamite Good Bye Eddie
Jonathan Roberts
>He still plays in Standard Tuning and not based all 4ths tuning
No, I'm saying the opposite. I will warn you however, I have never successfully pulled off a barre chord. I blame the lack of meat on my finger. There are spots that just won't push down. I imagine working hands with callouses wouldn't have that problem.
Leo Morris
Check out Yousician, there's like a $10 sub but it's worth it, just for a tool that keeps track of your progress and it includes progressive learning.
You'll be playing the dumbest shit imaginable but you'll be practicing properly.
Jackson Barnes
>He doesn't tune his guitar to A=432Hz on all fourths tuning
Colton Clark
Index should be tilted slightly, yep.
Practice them on an autistic guitar if you can, for a few weeks/months, focus especially your movement up and down the neck.
Wyatt Miller
Should I get a steinberger? Boomers say less body wood and no headstock = thinner tone but I think that's just their pickups.
Jackson Ramirez
Tone on an electric guitar is a meme. It's all in the pickups. Any variation, if any, that comes from the wood you'll naturally adjust out using the tone knob anyways
Just run it through a DAW and be done with it. It's nothing but vibrations. Shape to will.
Josiah Gonzalez
>he needs a multipurpose information processor to make music
"but muh timbres"
Kevin Jenkins
Real instruments give each musician a distinct sound. Computer generated sounds make everything sound the same, or like a copy of something else, until someone comes up with a neural network to randomly generated acceptable playing styles.
And then nobody will really care because your live performance consists of pressing play, and you're not young, attractive, or easily influenced enough to be an industry puppet.
Ian Flores
I mean run the signal through a DAW. No need to bother with "crafting" a tone with wood and pickups when you can craft it with code.
Easton Reyes
lmao might as well learn to play an electric keyboard instead, kiddo
>until someone comes up with a neural network to randomly generated acceptable playing styles. this exists in a lot of vsts already. the processing takes a while though so its not great for real time playback. that said if we take my setup which is low latency all computer, you could just run the sound through an external ep and have it unique
Brandon Sanders
>his electronic instrument is a mid-20th century invention steeped in the voodoo fantasies of uneducated working class americans who think a diode in a box with a footswitch on it sounds better than a computer exactly copying how that diode changes a waveform >not a recent japanese invention played by intelligent, sensible people from all over the world

Matthew Martin

Caleb Young
>and have a big trustfund. This Or if your neighbor is a record producer that needs to pool up desperate artists for his back catalog to get shuffled around his label.
Christopher Foster
Don't most people just play a guitar they think looks cool and fits their hands, and change their playing style and amp settings to get the sound they're after?
At the most you should need an EQ pedal. The guitar doesn't really matter, right?
I probably make more than you in a week than you make in a month, desu. Money != quality, see gibshit for example. Literally poorer fretwork on a 2k guitar than a $200 chinese plank of wood with a few nails in it.
John Allen
Is the action too high? I notice I have to press down the strings a tad harder than on my other guitar.
they have the same notes in both yeah the entire point of a pentatonic scale is 2 remove half-steps from the scale so for example c pentatonic is c major without F and B since they sound kind of rough when you play an E or C next to them in a melody line
Are you still ignorant to why that is done? Watch some luthiery videos son.
Easton Edwards
>why that is done No excuse for the dots being cockeyed, none.

i have a squier deluxe and a MIM and... the squier is up there with the fender. I am stunned because I bought the MIM as an upgrade but it wasn't really an upgrade IMO, like a side grade
>local shop doesn't let people touch any instrument over >$1500 >doesn't let you even see any instrument >$3000, they're kept in a locked back room >if you want to see one, they advise you to buy it, and if you don't like it, they'll give you credit less a restocking fee >absolutely no returns for cash
Is this a normal practice, or I just have a really bad apple? I'm interested in a Fender Custom Shop and it's the only dealer within a 6hr drive.
What I mean is that bending your wrist wastes a lot of energy and you’ll end up with RSI or some other muscular injury. Basically your hand and wrist should be dead straight with only your fingers curving to fret the notes, see pic related
There are people at this moment who haven't opted to play Solo Guitar Jazz gigs vocaroo.com/i/s1Le2f7YlWGg

It's not normal. I've played $5000 gibsons just for asking and I am not attractive or rich as my gibson-owning implies. But if you don't like it the return window is large enough to get a full refund. It's to deter people who can't afford rarer, high end instruments (that the shop might not have well insured) from possibly damaging them. You break it, you buy it only works if you can buy it otherwise it's lawyer money time.
Also if it was used and returned... they'll buff it up, do cardboard box surgery if necessary, and tell you it's still brand new.
In other words, fuck poorfags, but you're dealing with jews, and fuck jews.
nobody thinks gibson owners are attractive or rich
>daym cletus today's the day >ive been workin overtime at the mill and savin my cash and now i can finally dew it >i can afford mah dream guitar, a gibson les paul >just like ZZ top played >yeehaw >Billy Joe you should focus on moving out of a trailer first >only a gibson be gud enuf, cletus

>they give you a credit so even if you don't like the guitar, you still have to buy from them if you want a different one

Bullshit. Everybody bends their wrist for a note here and there and you don't see them get RSI (which isn't a muscular injury either, it's in the tendons)

this, it's all in having quality tonewood

Probably a newbie question, so take it easy on me. What’s the general consensus on DIY guitar building from pre-made kits. Would there be room to swap out parts of the kit to make a better sounding guitar? Never built a guitar before so I might be in over my head, but theoretically I feel like it could be a less costly alternative to buy an otherwise expensive guitar.
I've got a project guitar that I want to do a neck swap on. The current neck is fucked, truss rod can't help its action issues. I also bought it with the intention of replacing the neck, but I am having trouble finding a neck that will fit. I measured the current neck and it is 2 1/8 inches wide at the heel. I managed to find an old Epiphone EA-250 (basically same guitar as mine) neck that says its a 2 3/16 inches at the heel. Am I being retarded and measured wrong or do I have some super specific neck?
I have an epi eb-0 and I love it. Its heavy as shit and and very has a very 'boomy' sound to it. Honestly the best feature for me is the short scale, I can swap between guitar and bass easier. That's a big plus for when I have friends over to jam, everyone can swap instruments more seamlessly.
Andrew Cook
any recommendations for a room mic to record acoustic? looking to mix with the direct signal
Yeah, I am reading up on sanding the heel of a neck to get it to fit. Usually I just go for this kinda retarded shit without hesitation but I love this guitar and don't want to fuck it up.
Hunter King
Is it possible to fix the current neck? What are the action issues? Have you tried shimming the neck?
Juan Ortiz
The action is just really high. I've tried lowering the bridge down, adjusted the truss rod plenty, and I have tried some shimming. Looking at some guides right now and I think my fuck up is not shimming it at an angle. May try to buy some of these pre-made shims.
Hunter Butler
Yes. Put a thin piece of wood (veneer) or card at the heel of the neck joint. This increases the angle of the neck and lowers the action.
Oliver Thomas
sure, wpuld love to
Lincoln James
Sweet I am going to try this when I get home. Thanks for the help. Maybe one day I will find an old, cheap Japanese guitar that doesn't have action problems.
Wyatt Green
wait, you havent touched the nut?
Gabriel Garcia
Alright guys, I'm posting back here to tell you that my used guitar has shipped from Guitar Center! The order finished 'processing', and it's on the way to my local branch. I'll keep you updated.
Leo Perez
>he doesn't know that "processing" in guitar center terms means that they were eating lots of things that turn into assy shartlogs, meaning they were pinching a kakalog onto his guitar
enjoy involuntarily kaka picking
Henry Martin
I don't think the nut is causing the issues, but I could be wrong. The nut is actually fucked up, I wasn't going to mess with it since my plan has always been to replace the neck.
Keep us posted, been curious about this. I like the ability to null the sale but with a 50$ shipping fee. Kind of takes some of the risk away.
Adrian Howard
I didn’t say RSI was a muscular injury, that’s why I said “or”. And there’s nothing wrong with adjusting depending on how far you have to reach for a note, it’s just a good rule of thumb to keep your wrist straight as possible, economy of movement and all that. Call it bullshit if you want but you’ll regret it later in your life if you’re not thinking about the best way of keeping your wrists in good shape.
Nolan Howard
Funny thing is, they took so long to accept the money that my bank released the hold on the transaction, so to me, it looks like I haven't paid them at all. I'm not sure how the backend of banking works, but if the guitar is already in the air, I'm not too worried. I'll just have to be careful to keep enough in my checking account for when the number is finally subtracted.
Wyatt Brooks
I guess it could be the issue, cause thats not so uncommon. if you have backbow and the nut is alright and the trussrod doesnt work, I have heard you can tune up to f# and leave your guitar for like a few weeks and apparently it will straighten up the neck
Meh if you have 7,500 to drop you're better off get something literally made specifically to your specifications. Fender guitars are great I play a Telecaster myself but no way in hell would a guitar specifically made to be cheaply mass produced could ever command anything above 2,000.
Aaron Wood
What is an EMG and why do i feel that i really need to get one? What does it even do for the guitar?
They're guitar pickups that are operated with batteries and they give a more balanced tone than passive pickups in most guitars. That makes them great for metal or even Jazz.
Nolan Rivera
I'd get a Rumble series, maybe 25W. They're great and I regret selling mine.
Dylan Davis
lol, now thats what I would have a called a REAL concert my boy
